  8. try getting in touch with your local council parks dep. i got two huge elm logs both over two feet thick and about 2meters long the other day for FREE all i had to do was arrange to pick them up when there was going to be some one in the yard who could load them onto my trailer with their tractor. and there is lots more i can go back to get. as and when i need it.
  9. I have decided at long last what im going to carve. Wait for it........ a Bear with an owl on his sholderr, sat on a flying eagles back eating a mushroom while the eagle catches a leaping salmon. have i missed anything out.
  10. Mr Archer you are a geek. but you are right a hellboy would be smart. this is my most favorite carving i have ever seen. the spidey was ace but that is so much cooler.
  11. ill sell you my van dave im thinking of buying me a brand new one. VW transporter t5 2.5 ltr 6speed 130 bhp 57plate.
  12. i have said many times before and i will say again a bit of colour in the right place can bring out the best in a carving. very nice work there dude.
  13. was just about to say. i will be going up in my van so i will have plenty of space to take your kit if you want to meet through the day on friday and load up.
  14. Geese. my parents live in the middle of 34 acres of woods and despite having a padlocked gate and security lighting which have both been over come by inturders they have never been burgle due to 6 very noisey and seamingly agresiv geese wandering around the place. however once they get to know you they are rather friendly. the other thing worth looking at is a trail cam with a black infrared LED video camera you get them that take a phone sim . they can send a txt to your phone to let you know they have picked some thing up and then you can phone it and see live images of what is going on.
  15. im there. going up Friday. i was going to see if you wanted to share a vehicle dave but my missis and the kids are comming up on the train with some friends on sat so i will have to bring them home with me. but do you want to meet up and have a race up the A9.
  16. heres a better idea. dont bother with the 150 and put a dime 12" dime tip on your 201.
  17. its the saw i didnt like the 150 as it vibrated like hell at low revs.
  18. if you go back through my posts you will find several saw reviews. but in short either an MS 181 or MS 211 with a dime tip bar as a detail saw and either a MS 231 or MS 260/ 261 as a blocking out saw.
  19. a tip for the future Dave. ring bark the bottom of the stump a few weeks before you carve it if you can or get the home owner to get the person taking down the tree to do it. iv found it helps to get the sap to settle down lower in the stump so you don't have sap running every where and also helps to prevent it cracking a bit.
  20. when your looking for inspiration on t net look to see how other people have carved what you want to do but always work from pictures of the real thing. if you buy a big log you should be able to make a few of them out of one log. I like drawing stuff up on lining paper but I transfer it to clear polythene so I can lay it on my wood and draw underneath it and be able to see where in drawing. I have too many carvings I want to do but never get the chance as im always busy doing what other people want.
  21. don't bother with the 170 they are too under powered when used on a carving bar as there isn't a sprocket in the tip of the bar, so there is extra drag on the chain when doing detail work with the tip. put a 12" dime tip bar on your 211 and use the 026 for blocking out.
  22. Stick it in your shed for a few years and let it dry out.
  23. That would be the MS 200 then:lol: the top handle one is called the MS 200 T
  24. don't forget to budget for a dime tip bar chain and sprocket.
