  1. Amazing craftsmanship like that is worth good money. Having watched various adverts for oak furniture outlets i would say a bespoke item such as these i would put up in the 600 - 1000 bracket. I'd sure love to buy something like this as the craftsmanship is beyond my wood working skills at the moment!
  2. Well thats no good! My girlfriends lad enjoyed the tree climbing last year Just too far up country for me, plus manic with work and need to put more time into the relationship to earn a few days out things are better this week, will update my post shortly
  3. I can't make it all the way up to the APF, does anyone know if FRJones are doing their show this year in Shipbourne?
  4. Sharknadoooooooooo .... It's a tornado, with sharkkkkkkkkks!! We watched it a few weeks back, proper B movie action complete with dodgy cgi and so full of holes even the streets didnt hold water! But.... It's a tornado, with sharkkkkkkkkks!! (And my girlfriend says did you all know they made a second one!!!)
  5. Take a look at Easyspace They do lots of options, and also one click installs which give you wordpress or drupal to run the site on. They are also in Scotland, why is this a good thing? Well I once had a website which was I found out afterwards hosting in New Orleans when the hurricane hit - they eventually run out of diesel for the generator and all the servers went offline and everyone lost everything! So pick wisely.
  6. 15m outreach up to 11m height according to - http://www.ommelift.net/content/files/fbe54ec20340df230c91438f7a6881c8_2.pdf Awesome
  7. Sheet of Ali checker plate for the roof? just rivet it on? That would save some money so you can have the doors done properly
  8. Id aim for a 6inch chipper, whilst smaller chippers are great in some respects, a 6 inch machine will handle a bigger 'bunch' of brash over a smaller machine. I find my greenmech 130 perfect as its letter box opening will allow a lot of brash into the feed rollers. Saves time and energy by bunching and processing as a stack over pulling individual or two or three sticks out.
  9. Same here, or barely on our own drive Nice idea though
  10. Sand bags under mats or ramps, they would enable you to fill the hollows in various different heights etc? Or crane.
  11. Exactly!
  12. For me at 20 odd years of age I was working on £8400 salary, it never did me any harm and I could afford to live and more. Plus if the lad is on £70 per day and randomly working, therefore an average of 2 days per working week thats only 7070.00 he is on at the moment, so therefore he would be better off.
  13. Actually you would need to pay him at least £50.48 per day to be within minimum wage for that age bracket. Source: https://www.gov.uk/national-minimum-wage-rates So thats approx. £12771.00 per annum as a full time contract.
  14. Sorry to hear that news mate, thoughts go to you and your family at this time.
  15. Can you do a Zero hours contract, set price per day? Or minimum days = 3 with extra days. If the work is guaranteed now and wasn't before then he would be quids in but its getting them to see it that way! Remember though it works both ways, you may be paying him X but if he earns you Y then its worth your while? Failing that I would set a salary of 12k before tax or £47.43 per day, assuming full time contract of 253 working days (based on 2014). Run some figures, business plans and spreadsheets with a base figure.
  16. Very true as well, something I have learnt is keep the text / content simple and the price keen as people do only read the bottom line figure - we lost out to two other companies in the last 3 months due to them having a completely different work method.... There will always be someone cheaper willing to do it for less, but its unlikely the job will be as good - but they just dont see that!
  17. On the quote I would price exactly what was discussed at the site meeting or subsequent emails, all the discussion of extras and options should be taken into consideration before the time the quote is submitted. If there was optional items available to the client, then this would be stated as an optional extra during the original conversations but to write this upon the quote without discussion would just be unprofessional IMO. Within the notes section I would state exactly what is NOT included as discussed in previous conversations - No stump grinding for example. Up selling or cross selling is the way to develop a client relationship and ultimately increase revenue and profits but to remain professional it should be done during the consultation stage. Something I have thought of recently is upon completion of works and submitting the invoice, offering additional services along the line of **check out our website for deals on tree surgery this autumn** for example. This could be applied to a customer to we service for garden maintenance but is unaware of our other services and may be someone we don't meet face to face very often - which is quite common. J
  18. My thoughts too, hardly any Ash out in leaf around my areas of Kent, none of the ones I have looked at in detail show exterior signs of Chalara.
  19. Totally awesome ! Love the filming and editing of this video, and having never climbed a red wood of any size i am very envious. J
  20. The navara seemed to fair better than the 2008 Isuzu, at least the cockpit area stayed intact. Love these slow mo test videos.
  21. If it was me it would be £320 per day for two people, all in with fuel but no rubbish away, as long as it wasn't more than 20 miles from base. But if your just starting out and your happy with £200 and it covers all your costs then go for that. Long term, remember whilst you don't want to appear to be expensive, there are things to pay for which when added to your day rate / hour rate cost price will eat into your profits / wage. Insurance, machinery purchase servicing & replacement, vehicle running costs (inc. insurance, fuel, tax, repairs etc) all need to be considered when factoring a complete cost price on to which you can base your day / hour rate. We were all in your shoes at one point or other so know how daunting it is, just be sensible with price and the increase can follow later once you have a name for yourselves. Best of luck, J
  22. Be a lovely view when a tidal wave comes in and blats it all into kindling... I'll pass.
  23. Thanks Steve for sharing, entered
  24. Good call On the plus side you've had your three things and now its time to move on Cheers
  25. CS100 - except no other in my opinion. I own a Arborist 130 and love it but would still buy a cs100 if the price was right just for those narrow / small jobs. Have used one in the past, pukka bit of kit.
