  1. Definitely get yourself to Kingswood, the best training provider and my chosen option. After that try and get some weekend work with a company to gain experience and work up from there. Anything else is a struggle without a lot of money in arb. Unfortunately I dont have anything down that way planned at the moment, although my other half is from Sandwich so in your area every weekend Welcome to the forum too! Good luck.
  2. I suffered sciatica badly around two and half years ago, it took me a long time to recover however what I found worked best was tree climbing and body thrusting!! It does improve core stability and muscles and seems to stretch out my back. The root cause of mine is a compressed spine through years of lifting, even correctly, in my previous job. I have to be careful how I bend and twist but have it under control now, touch wood.
  3. thanks, given the year of manufacture I doubt this part has ever been replaced so has perished with the fuel over the years.
  4. Thanks, it sure looks split down the sides and it doesn't look equal which made me think, or hope, this was the leak. So any idea where to find one, i searched for the parts list but found the new 8000 model not the old.
  5. Ok so if its a breather, which is something which crossed my mind, should it be as split as this or should it be more slotted on the end only? Thanks all
  6. The saw has developed a fuel leak, I eventually found where it was and isolated it to behind the handle mounting So after taking it all apart i've found its this little rubber grommet which seems to be a blank for the fuel tank Anyone know if this is more than just a blank? If it isn't where might be best to source a replacement for it? Thanks
  7. Yes the facebook link in my strap below is my Page. For personal use I have a profile, but there is an app for android / iphone which is called pages manager. With this app and facebook app you can run both at the same time on the same device without logging in and out of each one, handy! I update mine, with the interesting stuff, each evening - its so easy it takes minutes.
  8. By using a personal account, a profile, for a company you can only accept friends invitations from potential leads and not allow them to like the page. This limits the number of viral page likes you can receive. Facebook is FREE as a business or profile! the only bit that costs money is to do advertising which is similar to google adwords in how it works, pay per click kinda thing. If you wish to find local business then you are also better off with a page, incorporating the maps and information within the business details. You cannot do this with a profile. The back office of a page is hugely better, there is no back office to a profile (the personal account). With the back office you can manage your traffic and see how many viral leads and likes you have had from individual posts and track your meta data. With a profile you cannot. I strongly advise you have a page.
  9. There are other threads on facebook on here already. However, I use my work page almost daily to keep it fresh and relevant. I have installed the like box onto my main website which takes the news feed and places it real time into the website page. This keeps the site updated and shows the variety of work we do (gardening, trees and landscaping). As to starting out a page, firstly get it set up correctly - include your location in the settings to benefit from local searches. To build an audience quickly encourage people in your family and friends circle, and existing clients, to interact and 'like' the page. This is called working your warm list. Given that usually these people are in your area it gives you access to their friends circles - as long as those people who have liked your page like the posts, photo's etc and then this comes up in their friends news feed as 'john commented on this:' Making it go viral is a hard task for anyone within our industry, it does depend on the demographic you are attempting to reach. I believe in the next 10 years facebook will be even more relevant as a resource to find goods and services than now as the up and coming younger generation who sit on their phones become your customers. In short, facebook is not the be all and end all but its a tool to use. I recently got on Google plus, Linked In as well as having a youtube channel and facebook. If this brings any work or benefit it is yet to be seen but giving people that option is always of benefit to the wider audience.
  10. Huge Cedrus libani - always loved the form of these trees Metasequoia glyptostroboides - have one in the garden at the moment which I acquired from the bonfire of the nursery I did my school work experience at, it was apparently 'dead' but funny how I knew better even at 15... Awesome foliage throughout the seasons and interesting structural form in winter - as you can tell i like them Quercus robur - just cos its quintessentially English in the landscape, although you could say the same about many other trees
  11. Try these people, local to me but they do national. I find their prices good but then I do mostly domestic where they are happy to pay the price, might be worth a call? Hedges and Hedging Plants | Garden Hedge Nurseries - Hopes Grove Nurseries Kent UK
  12. Another great August production, enjoyable watch great editing and love the music
  13. The same should be applied to cheques if you ask me! Mind you it would help if banks were open earlier or later too!
  14. More to the point, why fell it?
  15. Cash = same price. Don't discount as the quotes are usually keen enough to earn the work, any more fat trimmed off and the bread goes out the window. I usually have it with posh people who assume money talks, I do enjoy telling them thanks for the offer but I prefer BACS thanks.
  16. Dan It may be different from one to another given specific locations can be different prices (insurance varies across the country) but around £300 for the year, insured for its full cost price. New for old policy as with most Trust tool policies I think. And matty, my mobiles on my website if you wanna call me to ask something
  17. Your welcome Ours has the briggs and stratton engine but that's mainly as our machine was in stock at the dealers and we wanted it asap. One thing to think about is that I was told the engine parts for a Honda are more expensive than the Briggs? If this is true I don't know really but it rings true from a perspective of other Briggs / Honda engines on mowers etc. We have used ours on some fairly large conifer jobs and we have struggled to keep it fed at times so its not slow at all really. Keeping the blades sharp obviously helps, we have turned ours twice since purchase and its still sharp. Although take into consideration we don't use it every day due to our varied work of landscape gardening as well as tree surgery. J
  18. Mines with Trust insurance Matty, speak to Cameron
  19. As for fuel economy, I usually get about 5 - 6 decent size jobs out of one tank. The price per month had to be keen for me to make it stack up financially and the 130 sure does that.
  20. Bingo Your welcome Barrie James
  21. Yep, sorry i was testing the theory first, see the second post for the fix. J
  22. Right! I got it, i know where your going wrong now. You appear to be viewing your you tube with a secured link. See on yours you have https:// not http://. Remove the https:// from the link, it works fine within the usual url tags of arbtalk. Either remove your secure browsing or simply grab the url and make into [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7CTX49F530]Changing a pull cord on a Briggs engine - YouTube[/ame] within the Url tags Edit - actually it works without the url tags without the https:// bit

  24. Had this discussion with my better half this weekend after hearing the news of Schuey. Does make you think, the same with head torches as well? Anything placed on the helmet must compromise the crush compression qualities of the plastic and give an increased pressure of something falling upon it. Maybe that head cam will have to wait. Or perhaps mounting on the side would be better? well less risky.
  25. I have the 2013 greenmech arborist 130 petrol. So far been a pukka machine for what I require from it. Being its petrol it does take a little longer to recover from the no stress kicking in but given we, as do most, keep the logs from 4" up or so this chipper has been perfect for us. The wide infeed rollers make chipping brash a pleasure. A few videos of mine in operation - keep meaning to do some more but haven't had the time. Feel free to fire any questions at me.
