  1. Recently I have got into refurbing old saws, so far I have got the CS8000 back up and running complete with a new 24" bar and chain combo, with a 242xp and an old pro mac 55 on the bench in pieces ready for sorting out. BUT For every day usage, work, earning me money. I use new saws with reliability and parts back up I know I can trust in. I have no idea what im gonna do with the older saws but its a real pleasure to play in the work shop with them #greasemonkey
  2. Just seen this thread. To cut a long story short, it has taken three and half years to get to the point where the business is snowballing faster than I can keep up and require staff and expansion real soon. Although having spent the first year to 18 months concentrating on getting back into the gardening / landscaping industry, I soon realised I wanted to reach for the sky and progress on to tree surgery. Capital investment is key to growth. You need money to make money. You need good equipment to be competitive in the arb game. You can muddle along but there will always be someone you look up to who has the best equipment, truck and saws, they will be the ones winning the jobs if you sit back. Do not compromise. Do not sit still. Act on ideas and strategies today not tomorrow. Little action is better than no action but big action, as long as it is planned well, will win the day. Personally my key to success has been proper planning, cross checking and research. And finally... Be more dog.
  3. Daily phone calls and averaging three emails a day, booked up to March next year already. Expansion here we come :-)
  4. Just wait till one set goes out of sync!
  5. Experienced the same issue when we hired one many years back from fr jones. Good simple solution there Tim.
  6. Would be interested in seeing some pics if anyone got some? Did it have a metal frame with plastic infills or molded plastic? Currently looking at options for a posh box for the truck
  7. To accurately work it out recently when deciding on the machine required i put in the throw line with a big shot and hoisted up a site tape (100m) and worked it out from that. Measured the diagonal to the area that the mewp would need to be, then the distance to the tree and the approximate height (shrubs were in the way too) then compared this to the charts readily available on the net for each machine. The answer basically dictated a need for Tom's Omme machine of cannon access on here - who i must call next week! :-)
  8. Nicely done and certainly something i would look to do if I ever pick up a cs100 second hand. Something to email Greenmech with to suggest a mod or extra perhaps?
  9. Engage chain brake comes to mind...
  10. I have a paxton trailer, purchased second hand. Been faultless, nice to tow and suits our needs.
  11. Depending on the quantity to be removed I would say a mattock is quicker from experience. Once you have an edge its easy to cube out and then replace the top soil afterwards for a thorough job of removal of all rhizomes.
  12. +1 for the 81R, ours is pukka for cutting through lapsed hedges or thicker hazel or sycamore hedges.
  13. +1 for Berlingo Just about to sell my 2006 one locally, have a buyer for it, coming up on 97k and been trouble free work horse for the last 4 or so years. Bought it at 57k miles. Now looking to replace it with the newer Berlingo or Partner (same van really)
  14. And that's why we wear CS trousers...
  15. Nicely done. What was that 'pit' that it was in and did it lead to its demise by raising up the soil level etc?
  16. I'm hoping this picture shows up since its on my personal facebook... This timber and ply box was supposed to be temporary but its been on three months I added the hinged lid with gas struts after a few weeks as the chipper kept blowing over, works a treat!
  17. Just an additional update on this saw for anyone who searches for it in the future. The leaky part is in fact called a Fuel Plug and is part number 13132932330 When searching on the parts diagram we have come to the conclusion that they have omitted this part from the diagram for the CS-8000 but it does show it on the CS-8001. I have just ordered the part so hopefully this saw will finally be in service again soon! A fuel leak caused by a £1.50 part! Typical! Ive ordered a few
  18. Not personally but.. My brother got stopped back when i was young (not that long ago i hasten to add) and he was going something like 40 in a 30. Anyway the copper said you have a light out on your rear, so my brother says in a cheeky way - so have you on your light bar. Both parties went on their separate ways shortly after with out further words
  19. What he said
  20. That looks like a good find! Unfortunately it wouldnt fit our tripod ladder which has a 1.45m width, tomorrow i need to knock up something temporary for the truck but long term i think i will be making something more integrated with the chip box etc
  21. Recently we have used up to 4mm in our strimmers on a clearance job, this was great for ripping through brambles and saplings! I think its all about using the correct size for the application, usually 3 or there abouts covers most things but ~2.4mm is better for fine grass. 3mm is also better if you invert the strimmer to edge back around borders and paving as it snaps less.
  22. Happy days. Has given me ideas about how to knock up a rack for the transit tipper box etc
  23. Sam Ditch the 1st splash page, its not needed if you ask me Other than that, try and insert more pictures and perhaps slightly less text in some places - people never read it anyway! James
  24. Looks all good i reckon, you may want to have a plate on the underside to spread the pressure when bolting up and this would make it more secure also. J
