  1. This fella on Youtube is a useful resource for lots of things, Climbing Arborist is his channel name. 2. Go to the page where the video is playing, copy the page url at the top, post it in the message thread and hit enter, youtube does the rest. Dont worry about the embed codes etc its not needed. J
  3. 7.30 to sort the kit for the day if needed, then on site by 8 to 9am depending on where we are going. Mostly domestic work so people dont like being woken before that time. Usually we are done and packing up by 4 but sometimes as late as 7 or 8 if its summer and we need to finish a job. I like the easy life these days, i dont like being stressed out by trying to fit too much in a day if we dont have to. Ted I woke to young Tom chatting away on to his friends on the Xbox this morning, oh the fun of technology on a Sunday morning
  4. Yep, go with your instinct cos that crane company doesn't sound up to the job. Contract lift all the way.
  5. Hell i could cut and bag it and be done for breakfast if I wanted to, but why rush, I don't like to pressure myself or my team, I like a nice simple well mannered day
  6. Cool vid, great work, well done
  7. ~£200, looks a simple job, lovely access, be done by lunch and on to the afternoon job
  8. I haven't come across an insurance company which has done it yet, but they do have the tendency to want to get out of anything and everything they can! The minimum I would do is photographs, ideally I would want a visit from the insurance company before commencement of works but given how busy they are at the moment I doubt that would happen?!
  9. I tend to do them on a 3 - 4 year basis, but it depends on the tree, its health and location. If its a lapsed pollard then I tend to leave fingers as per 3998 but again depends on the tree. It also depends on the shape of the tree and the overall end picture required i guess but fingers seem to help with regrowth on willows i find. The use of fingers in pollarding was discussed on here some time ago. Not everyone does it or likes it.
  10. Does anyone (spud?) know where to source some gaskets for this saw? I have taken it apart but the cylinder bottom gasket is in poor shape, wonder if its worth replacing the inlet and exhaust ports too? Cheers
  11. It depends on your LPA but this link takes to you a page where you can select the LPA and form required - should help Planning Portal | 1-App
  12. Do you have any of the access codes for the website itself or is it all with your provider who designed it? The facebook like box is fairly simple to do. Its configurable to height, width, content and light or dark theme and is found here: http://developers.facebook.com/docs/plugins/like-box-for-pages Likes - in terms of facebook likes - the more likes to your page the more people looking at your content on your fb page feed / their news feed each day. Once you get someone like your content or comment upon your content then the 'People who saw this' count will go up. This is because it will then feature in that persons feed to their friends, the more people like the more people see it. Facebook is the third largest 'country' in the world it was revealed in Oct 2012, its knowing how to use it to benefit you and your company. The like box simply gives you another exposure on your site and as you say keeps it fresh.
  13. Thanks Alex for your kind words. The like box / what we have been up to recently has been placed in a hope it will keep the website looking current and updated daily or as much as I update the FB from which it feeds. Time will tell if it brings more page likes
  14. Hey Danny Just a couple of things i've noticed. 'Planting & Supply's' at the bottom of front page, should this read 'Planting and Supplies'? The facebook / twitter symbols just link to facebook / twitter and not to the account for the business? If not on facebook it might be better to deactivate those until you are? On your main menu you have 'Services' 'Services' - perhaps a different title for one or combining the pages would work better? Or if one is supply then make it Products? Other than that I like it, one thing I think it would benefit from is a 3D title done in Photoshop to match the text type on your van? Would jazz it up a little and provide good cohesiveness between the two = more professional looking?? Hope that helps, I know I am looking at the detail but that's cos I've designed my own since day 1 J
  15. Hey Chris I like it for the most part. One thing which 'annoys' the eye a little is the list of towns along the top of the page, and the list of services under that which cannot be clicked. I know they are likely to be part of search engine optimisation but I find them a little distracting at the top of the page? Other than that picky thing I like it
  16. Okey Dokie Been fiddling with my website for the last week or so, found a new theme and it works well, I think anyway. Been trying to homogenise our presence across facebook, website, youtube and google+ with the appearance side of things. Thoughts please. I am currently unsure of the facebook likebox? But open to opinions. KENT Gardening & Tree Surgery | Kent Tree Surgeon | Kent Gardener
  17. That thought crossed my mind too, if the company he was subbing to lacked employers liability insurance then its possible. Its a shame it happened but its the risk we all take as far as I see?
  18. Sorry to hear the news bud, fingers crossed for a positive outcome and speedy recovery.
  19. Sounds like there was no case to bring to court to me, especially against the NT.
  20. Nice wallpaper Good point made though Adam
  21. Bored beyond bored with man flu on top Next people will be saying Dungeness is floating down the channel...
  22. Paul I understand your concerns and I don't admit to knowing everything or being qualified to the highest levels of consultancy. I have professional indemnity this year as well. However, when does advising a prospective client what to do with a tree (deadwooding crown reduction etc) become consultancy? There must be a grey area or is it all considered consultancy and therefore anyone and everyone doing tree surgery should have indemnity cover as well as standard? Just a question to prompt clarification for the benefit of others? James
  23. Was supposed to be felling a big weak Beech tree today but deemed it too windy since its blowing the wrong way! Hoping it doesn't fall apart in the wind now On the plus side I've re done the theme of my website
  24. Its a vicious circle when it comes to buying local verses online. Once the online side has the advantage it drives down the price and then it becomes less and less profitable for the local shops to have the part or product in stock for it to sit on their shelves for possibly a few years. Its not just saw parts either, I was trying to buy an analysis accounts book locally last week but nobody sold them and I had to order online. Ok no service issues but its another 27 quid moved away from the local economy. I buy all my kit from FRJones, they are the best for service and advice. When it comes to servicing I just do it all myself now.
  25. I like it Not done any of this style myself but I did come across a vertical form of it last year where a new build housing estate was built in a flood plane ( ) and it was installed to allow the water to flow between properties and out a particular path to the ditch - no idea if it worked or not in this recent weather though
