  1. that tree looks a dream to be in! how do you find the blue tongue compared to other ropes, like tachyon, poison ivy, have you tried either to compare I'm in the market for a new rope but I'm struggling to make a decision
  2. What he's doing is natural forking it, it's easier to work the hole tree off a pulley then go back to retrieve it at the end, takes a maximum of 10 minutes to get to the top of your average English tree time that will be easily saved by using the Pully at the top. Makes no odds either way but worth giving a shot at before shelling out for more gear if you already own a Pully.
  3. I doubt this would be retrievable, if so it would be better to just use the Pully on a sling, you'd still have to climb up to get it but it would be less friction than if still using a cambium saver and pulley combo. If you do decide to buy a pulley saver check to see if your rope fits before you buy, they've updated the pulley saver to the little pinto I Belive
  4. And the 11.7 dosnt fit through? I've never heard of that before only on 13mill Marlow. Stick with your rope then should be fine, and will fit a Pully saver. You could nock something up pretty easily but making it retrievable will be a pain, pinto rig, krab and a sling will work, tbh half of the time I climb back up and take out my Pully saver by hand, saves getting it stuck
  5. If your sown eye is to fat to get through then I suggest a thinner rope, it will respond better with the zigzag, also get a Pully saver it costs more but will make climbing round a tree a total breeze:)
  6. i use tachyon and i find its abit poo, i use poison ivy sometimes also and find its much better, only problem is its a 50m rope and a nightmare on trees that arnt giants. although the poison ivy is 11.7 and the tachyon 11.5 if you put them side by side the tachyon is noticeably thicker.
  7. I hate trees in rivers But I hate trees in canals even more!
  8. A place I work at still has a 661, its dreadful and plagued with problems, hope for your sake that they've a sorted it out!
  9. Don't go for an 11.7 rope go for velocity and just persist and your hands will adjust Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  10. Could the cracks be lightning strikes? And it looks like a Corsican pine to me, I may be wrong though! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  11. I agree with the hitch climber system, go on to you tube and look up "the hitch climbers guide to the canopy". It can look a little daunting at first but it makes moving about a tree much easier. Also i recommend a cambium saver if you don't use one already, and if your really really want to push the boat out a foot pantin ties in with this system really well. Good luck:) Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  12. Well my husky is fantastic, runs like a dream day in day out, I've never dropped it on the strop but I wouldn't say I baby it. If your saws not running well I'd say find a big chunk of oak and bury it in it, not for 5 mins but for a hole fuel tank, tune that baby up! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  13. Alright mr burdock! That's the way I do it too, makes cutting and chucking one handed super easy! If your struggling with it Normandy is your caritool at the side or round the back? it's easier if your caritools further to the side! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  14. Give it a red hot crack, worse that can happen is the tree will die. I love projects like this, make sure if you do go for it you stick some pictures up! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  15. Could you not try and wash out whatever chemical has been out down then give it a good mulching? When I was in collage their was a yew that was looking pretty ropey, we watered it with sugar water then mulched and it came back well. From what I remember the thinking behind the sugar water was kind of like an energy kick for the tree. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App

  17. Reg coats uses a massive silky in one of his vids but i think it costs a small fortune, i have a sugio and it's a beast of a saw, I don't use mine that often, I don't like the finish it leaves on pruning cuts but for topping a few connies in silence it's the one! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  18. Arb trolly, or even 2 arb trolleys stacked nice and high, winched out, and repeat:) Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  19. I have the normal tree motion, fantastic harness, I love it. Had a quick go with a guys super light version and I have to say it is very light. Just as comfortable as a normal tree motion but due to the lightness of it and the material I seems to flow with your body better. I personally find the clips on the normal tree motion a pain, ok their easier to take the harness on and off but their really a pain to adjust. If I was buying. harness now I'd pick the light option Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  20. Ahh I thought it meant working in the dark! All i do is subbie work so every jobs blind, keeps me on my toes:) Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  21. It's that powerful hey? So you dont to recommend I get my mate to shoot me in the arse to see how much it hurts? Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  22. 2 4foot it is then, when putting the line between the big shot and the tree do you then feed the line through the fork of the catapult so it doesn't get tangled up as you fire? Or go round the side? Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  23. Helloo Im planning on ordering myself a big shot and was wondering which is a better size, the 8 foot (that comes in two 4 foot halves) or the six foot. also if anyone has any tips on using one id be very grateful, have a feeling my bag and line will just fly off into the cosmos first go! cheers ed
  24. I don't know anything about rocks and fossils and stuff so correct me if I'm wrong but sedimentary rock is formed by sediment falling on the sea bed floor right, so surely if their was a rock on the sea bed floor the sediment would land evenly on it, eventually the sediment would rise higher than the rock. Their would still be a Lump on the sea bed made up where the sediment has landed on top of the rock, if you sliced this lump off and looked at the flat edge it would have round lines like this. Sorry if that makes no sense! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  25. Well I have to say my saw kicks your saws bums, full choke, starts 3rd pull flick it straight to half choke without letting the engine die, quick blip and away it goes! If it's been down for fuel will usually start 2nd pull, no choke. However 1 week after getting it back from Skyland the pull cord handle has disintegrated. I think this is gonna be a common problem aswell! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
