  1. I thought the show was cracking, much better than the previous one I went to 3 years ago. Their was a nice vibe about the place and the setting was spot on. I just hope that if it's in the same spot next year the camp site invests in getting a couple more showers and toilets up and running!
  2. Good post Adam and a Poignant topic for myself. I've got a pregnant girlfriend asleep upstairs and I've just been told today's jobs off due to the rain. It's the fith day I've been dropped last minute this year, that might not seem much but it's a week of money I've got to make back with weekend work or night shifts to be able to afford time off for when the sprog drops in July. As a subbie I find I start work half an hour earlier than everyone else with having to load up all my gear before going to their yard to load up theirs. Then finish half an hour later with unpacking it all in the evening.
  3. I feel the same, my poison ivy worked much better, I bit disappointed by it really
  4. Poor blokes, thoughts are with his family and that poor climber, R.I.P. Martin
  5. Fantastic tree! A real beast and one to be proud of. I'm glad you decided to put this thread up, it's makes the 2 big pops I'm doing next week look abit puny!
  6. In my kit bag, I'm a born again "rope guider"
  7. No it doesn't, does it? I've got it and their has been know swivelling that I know of, it would be pointless if it did as well as the retrievable bit would get all twisted up with it.
  8. It's got a bearing in the pully I believe. I've just replaced my old pulley saver with the rope guide, rope guide is a far better bit of kit. Easier to retrieve, easier to adjust and just functions better. Ddrt without a pulley at the top is a nightmare in my opinion!
  9. Nice man, I tried it for the first time too recently. It really does save time when obstacles arnt in the direct line of fire. How did your attach the rope to the base of the tree?
  10. Well what experience and tickets does he have? If all he's got is a level 3 no tickets and no experience, then he should be doing work experience not looking for a job
  11. What experience and tickets do you have?
  12. Actually scratch that, just drop it in one!
  13. I would climb and rig, let's face it who's gonna pay out for a crane on that, if your worried just go small or offset pulley through another tree

    My accident

Don't know you man but I wish you all the best! Hope you heal quick and things go as good as they can!
  15. Does it not increase shock loading though? Buy tying a half hitch right close to the gob then a timber hitch further up you reduce the distance the timber has to fall before the rope catches it? With a sling surely it would have to be choked high up on the stem to take all the slack out of the system which would then cause it to fall further? I'm not sure I like the sound of it but I've got a big pop to come down soon I'll try it out on, if it tickles my fancy in practice it would certainly make my life allot easier. Half hitch and timber hitch can be a bit of a drag on a massive stem with a big saw swinging about!
  16. For snatching timber though? I've always used them for the crown but to snatch heavy timber with them seems like a disaster waiting to happen
  17. Sling to catch the timber or a sling for the lowering Pully? Either way it's a bad idea
  18. Paint on a more lavish moustache with positive connotations, handle bar would be best
  19. Why not just buy aspen 2?
  20. Valocity is to thin for the zz, minimum you should put through it is 11. 5
  21. I was on a prussic/Blake's for 2 years of collage then about 4 months after then I went to a hitch climber for a maybe 3 months and then spiderjack maybe a year now I've been on the zig zag since the mark 2 came out. Not that long in the grand scheme of things but I do climb up an awful lot of trees in and out of work
  22. I have a zig zag and a spider jack and I'd say the zig zag is the better. Took me nearly a year of using it to finials concede but it is a thing of beauty, self tends so well. Makes movement round the tree really smooth and is just so natural to use. The spider jack is amazing and always will be but for me the zig zag is the best. Also they don't break, it's a myth snowballed by the internet circulated by the Monsanto corporation
  23. Yeh if you search the honeys page you should be able to find it, you have to use the search bar though. I never did replace it mind, it was nicked near the end and I never use more than a foot of the rope.
