    Saw dilema

Hi Just a thought, but the 365 as I understand, is similar to a 372 which - you may have confirm with the engineers; Spud, Wyk etc on here - that it can be fairly easily ported to achieve similar performance. Considering the price of the 365 against the others, it may be an option if you're not going to be using too extensively with a 24" bar? N
  2. Hi Jon, I must admit they are very well engineered, Ive been battering Macs on a regular basis for nearly ten years now as an IT pro & photographer. The Surface Pro 3 could be good but its limited to 8Gb & 512Gb of storage along with the inconsistencies of its windows O/S to manage. 16Gbs of ram & an SSD makes for an awesome processor. N
  3. Hi, My O/H has one of those, its pretty good & you can lock the blade by rotating the collar (I think all Opinels work like that) But I prefer my Buck 110 N
  4. Hi all, Just seen the Mac Book Pro now starts at £999, basic specs are 2.6 Ghz dual core i5 CPU, 8Gb ram, 128 Gb flash storage with retina ultra HD display. Price has dropped £100 perhaps due to the better £/$ exchange rate. No doubt the PC brigade will trumpet that its too expensive, but to be honest there arent many, if any Ultra books that better the overall package - or will have any lasting value after 3 or 4 years. N
  5. Hi TCD Thats excellent service Ive always considered Radmore & Tucker to be pretty good, Think they also operate via Toms Garden Equipment web site as well N
  6. Hi, Seems like a waste of effort to me, you will most likely get import duty added, with VAT as well, perhaps - Im not sure. Anyway, Im unsure why they offer a 550 on a 20" bar, by the divide cc by 3 rule (its approximate but a good rule of thumb) - 18" is really maximum and be best with a 15" bar. I'd go to FR Jones or Honey Bros or one of the others who sponsor this site & get exactly what you want along with the dealer support. N
  7. Hi, Agreed, +1 from me. Although I would prefer it slightly loose as opposed to too tight. N
  8. Hi A fair sized old pine with a lean over a road & towards our neighbours and a large dark water mark I dismantled earlier this year. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/picture-forum/67360-pine-takedown-fairly-dangerous.html Dont think it would have lasted much longer N

    New Bolams

Hello & congratulations to all of you, well done. N
  10. Hi, Spend an extra tenner & get a Buck 110 - excellent knife IMO. N
  11. RIP Robin Williams - an extremely talented actor. I think 'Good Morning Vietnam' was my favourite. N
  12. Hi Thats a lot of tools for the money. N
  13. Hi, I have a set of Halfords professional sockets & consider them perfectly good enough - despite a few years of abuse I havnt broken any. Their ratchets are particularly good as well. I would get single hex as 6 sided (opposed to bi-hex 12 sided type) as they are better for removing stubborn nuts and bolts. Snap-on, Britool, Facom etc may be better but are also a lot more expensive & if you did manage to break or wear any sockets you could always replace with one of these brands. N
  14. Hi, I tend to give mine (2012 X torque version ) 2 pulls choke out then push in, usually starts after a couple more, when its hot it starts easier without using the decomp valve usually first pull. Good saw, I really like mine N
  15. Hi I voted for 365, I have one on 20" bar and its great but you may want a saw for a different purpose to me so: If it were for cutting larger stuff & firewood Id go for a 365 If it were for limbing Id go for the 545 Id have a shorter bar on the 545 - 13 or 15 inch Why not get both of them! N
  16. Hi Keep your current saw as none of those is really a leg up from what you already have, when your 455 is totally knackered, replace it. N
  17. Hi, I have a 365 with 20" bar for firewood cutting, its not a screamer like the 550 & 560s but does a very good job, solidly made and none of Stihls daft flippy cap nonsense either - really do like it & have cut some fairly decent sized Oak no probs with it. N
  18. Hi HP Event handler known processor hog, either download and install the relevant later software from HP for your printer or use the HP un install program to remove (as opposed to dragging it to trash bin). sorry to hijack thread N
  19. Hello, I would try a re-boot, then look at Activity monitor to see if somethings hogging memory / CPU then try permissions repair as you may not have ever done it, You could always prevent Parallels or any other program not considered essential to load at start up from loading at Log-in. For example I removed Drop box as I dont use it a lot. To do this and check you dont have too much other stuff loading: 1. Click the apple icon top left of screen 2. select System Preferences... 3. Under System on the 4th row down click the Users & Groups icon - looks like two shadows 4. Select the user account & click login items top right In the list of applications click select what you dont want to run at start up and click - to remove If you remove app you need, click + & search for application to re-add see screen dump N
  20. Hi Nice pics Anything that makes the French slow down a bit is a good idea! Think I'll plant some in our village N
  21. Hi, If your Mac slows down, based on what you say above: 1. Clear your browser cache 2. Check you dont have too many programs running look for small triangle beneath icon in dock, right click & select quit 3. Delete any large data files you dont need ie check in downloads as that can fill up - if disk nearly full. 4 Download & run Onyx to flush the caches 5. Check task manager to see if a process isnt hogging CPU, re-boot if it is & see if it stops 6. Repair disk permissions, disk utility, under 'first aid' select the volume & click 'repair permissions' button de-fragging your drive will help if badly fragmented & disk nearly full, makes some difference, but not as essential as with PC - you will need a program like Drive Genius or similar. After that add ram & a fast SSD! N
  22. There were 6 landings between 1969 & 1972, but nothing since then. N
  23. Hi Firstly, I would like to congratulate you in taking such independent research - bon courage! I have for many years considered Mobil 1 to be a fairly good oil if that isnt already on your list. And always considered Millers oil to be pretty good N
  24. Somewhat surprising that the anniversary of this event barely caused a ripple in the press although Israel & air incidents currently top the news. I was somewhat privileged some years ago to take a VIP tour at Kennedy & talk to scientists aboard the international space station, to be honest it diddn't seem all that different to my own job as a submariner in the propulsion department of a nuclear submarine. That said, I have the utmost respect for these people who worked tirelessly towards the ultimate objective & yes, it still makes my hair stand on end listening to the dialogue. N
  25. Hello all, Its some 45 years since man walked on the moon on 21/07/1969 The First Men on the Moon: The Apollo 11 Lunar Landing I was nearly 11 years old watching those grainy images on our first TV set live as they landed about 20.30 then walked at 03.00, transfixed by every minute & perhaps it inspired my interest in science & technology. Your thoughts? N
