  1. Hello Signed, been wishing this for ages Bon chance N
  2. Hello Im sorry to hear of your plight, it must be some wrench to leave a house you lived in for 58 years. So, what can I suggest; perhaps sell your house & move to France, this may not be your chosen ideal ( and its not everyone's cup of tea or verre de vin) , but & it is a big but, its a lot easier to be more self sufficient here. You can still buy houses for 30K Euros, OK they will need some work, but I think better than a caravan. Land is cheap & most houses in the country have a fair bit , we grow heaps of vegetables & are almost self sufficient, you need to be fairly practical but its an option if you do your homework & get it right. Bon chance et bon courage N
  3. Hi Eggs Sorry to hear of your loss, sincere condolences to you & family I hope she lived a good life & you have some happy memories N

    Veggies in!

Hi Well, theres a lot to learn & we continue to discover all sorts of things, the last few years we've been planting by the moon phases, the idea is that gravitational pull of the moon influences moisture in the soil, therefore an optimum time to plant certain types of veg. it certainly works for us & our neighbour Claude has been doing it for years, we also have quite a few plum, pear, apple & mirrabelle trees so make Eau de Vie (legal using a mobile licensed still that visits in March) Tomatoes need a bit of help to get going, we used to have a small plastic greenhouse in UK which worked well & I suspect a poly tunnel may be next years acquisition. Veggies in!

Hello Yes we have quite a large pottage, got potatoes coming up, onions, celeriac & just planted some cauliflowers. Everythings bit ahead being further south & also had several self seeded tomato plants after we spread the compost heap. N
  6. Hi You are absolutely spot on, accountants will continue to bugger things up because all they understand is bottom line. They dont take into account the churn of breakdown, support or the possibility of customers switching to another brand. Regrettably, its a feature of nearly everything on sale as all but a few brands use the same chuck it away when its broke model. N

    Saws

Hi Eddy, oh yes, no chainbrake makes it worthless I think his reply may be "you can take it from my cold dead hands" Or something like that, amazing what the French chuck out, last time we found a really nice ladies bike in the skip & gave it to the Emmaus project. N

    Saws

Hi A friend of mine found an 07s in a skip recently & yes, it was a good find which filled with new fuel ran fine the next day. Both us have used saws since our early teens, neither of us have a problem with no chain break, most saws diddnt have them anyway. The real issue, is when a saw is fitted with what looks like a chain break, an inexperienced user may not even check it on starting. However should it subsequently be demanded to activate but fails to work correctly, the consequences of that failure are going to be very severe. & yes if it was an old Stihl Id had offered you a tenner N

    Saws

Hi I would not use it as a lot of saws like this are Chinese copies, most should never been sold in EU as they often dont meet safety standards. Destroy it first so no one else can use it, then chuck it in a skip. It hasn't cost you anything, but it may cost you an arm & a leg! N
  10. Hi, I dont have that machine but do a fair bit of cultivating, having a tiller with a Honda GX160 which I think is 5 HP, this drives 4 tines no problem. I sometimes use a neighbours machine with the same Honda engine which has 6 tines & 2 gears & the engine is about half throttle perhaps for decent speed. I suspect the difference in widths provide either 4 or 6 sets of tines & although the drive train is different, your 12Hp engine should pull it no problem. N
  11. Hi, Id say the building is no more than about 6.5 meters high & the tree looks about 3 & a bit maybe 4 buildings worth, however the ground slopes downhill & the house looks as if its slightly behind the tree. Therefore Id say 23.5 metres or 78ft 10" imperial approx Mrs NFG says 22.0m or 72ft N
  12. Hi Hedge, That sounds like really good news for you & Mrs H, was wondering how shes been doing the other day when reading one of your posts. Heres hoping she continues recovery - et bon sante N
  13. Hi, AFAIK PayPal UK is an organisation based in Luxembourg therefore operate (conveniently for them) outside the consumer credit act and other UK laws. Personally wouldn't touch them with a very long barge pole if I were you N

    Family pride

Hello, Cracking try if I may say so, right down to the roll at the end bet youre well proud N
  15. Hi Ash burns quite hot with little residual ash, also the chimney dosnt soot up as quickly, goes a bit faster than oak, but excellent if the oven on Rayburn is required to run a bit hotter. Ive burnt Ash within one year of felling and its fine as the sap dosnt seem as 'oily' as other woods. Dont know about Beech, but would season it for a few years before burning. As other people have stated its good to burn a mixture, Oak & Ash would be my choice due to availability. N
  16. Hi I have a Bosch PSB 18 LI-2 with 2 batteries, it was about £85 from B&Q, overall Im pleased with it & its had a fair bit of use, the batteries last well & the hammer action when drilling is handy. Infrequently the chuck loosens but its a minor issue rather than a problem I note the negatives about Bosch & to be honest would prefer to spend a bit more & get Makita next time. N
  17. Hi, Your use looks similar to mine, I have an MS250 (251 is the later model) with a 14" bar & really good, mines stood up to a fair amount of use and it certainly cuts well. OK, so it doesnt have the alloy body of the 261 & to avoid bearing problems, I change the needle bearing annually they cost a few quid & grease it about every 50 hrs use. For bigger wood, I have a 365xp with 20" bar, it flies through the larger stuff, yes it is a tad heavy but you soon get used to it so depending on physique you may not want to be using it all day, but it certainly is good to use, perhaps you may get a good S/H one as the model has been around for a while. Several people advised 365xp when I needed larger saw & good to see people continuing to recommend it. Other than that a 550xp is a nice saw which may eventually replace the 250 one day. N

    Whisky

Hi Dean, I do like Laphroaig, Got my lad some Quarter Cask & very nice too Also gave our neighbour a bottle of Jura Superstition for feeding cats & chickens during last visit to UK & is now his favourite. Enjoy N
  19. Hi I think it is a Villager A low canopy, thats a 14Kw fire & will heat quite a large room. They come in three designs, high canopy ie steep sloped top, low like yours & flat top which is cosmetic as I think all make the same spec for heating comme ça: Villager A Range Wood Burning Stove Log Burning Stoves I think you can back fit a water heater to it, but wouldnt advise as it cools the flue too much (IMO) N
  20. Hi, agreed, But anyone running a safety course could use it to see how many issues the students could spot before & after their training. N
  21. +1 (from a non professional) the 'Yee Haa' style, lack of PPE & dropped saw amongst other things also gave me cause for concern. One thing for sure, they wouldnt happen if it were my business. N
  22. Hi Agreed, dont really see pies at all, but could it be a business opportunity? N

  24. Hi But dosnt that work out expensive in rental? £114 * 6 = £684 Using a similar rental free solution, you could have paid deposit (£60+VAT) & had 17 of 9 litre refills for the same outlay. N
  25. Hi Yes, possibly due to a more desirable mix with better flow regulation? N
