    Chain wear ?

Hi Sounds like FUD (Fear Uncertainty & Doubt) to me, I have a small experience of Sugi bars - 15" on 346 & 20" & 365 they are very good, much better than OEM bar and no excessive wear on the chain. I grease the nose in accordance with manufacturers recomendation & with any new bar & chain increase the oil flow for the first tank full whilst it breaks in. Perhaps the bar did not align correctly on fitting & wore excessively? Im sure Rob D and others with more knowledge will post soon, but in my opinion for what its worth, they are very good, well engineered bars - thanks Rob . N
  2. Hi Made a bit in the 80s & 90s but its a bit too volatile now I used to do penny shares, buy on what I considered the market was going to do well on & sell at a modest profit. I agree with Vespian - or any stock you consider well priced, but dont bet what you cant afford to lose. N

    Heart attack

Hi all This evening I learnt of someone who had suffered a minor heart attack despite being a fairly fit cyclist. After a visit to his GP for dietry advice, who said: Less fatty meat, more fish /seafood more fruit & vegatables no smoking - but he diddnt anyway and two or three glasses of good red wine every day N
  4. Hi Ive heard the 560xp is 'designed for 800 hours of use' If this is correct, its pretty terrible to be honest - as 800 hours would be less than 6 months daily use on a very conservative 40 hour week. I hope this is wrong, so if anyone knows otherwise? N
  5. Hi The light pro has cut away resin filled inserts as opposed to the solid bar On longer bars these cut outs are towards the nose to improve ballance The light pro seems to provide good ballance on my 365 N

    Radon .

Hi We used to live in Cornwall, Radon is an Alpha emitter a relatively large particle which causes damage over a short distance, its stopped by paper. I would say that smokers are most at risk from Radon, you breathe it in through the tip of a cigarette so its heated so if it then burns its self into the lung lining there it remains. We took part in a survey & found there was no need for action, however we would keep the house well ventilated. N
  10. Hi Rob at Chainsawbars and chainsaw accessories also runs Sugihara Guide Bars excellent bars & good service N
  11. Hi Jon, Well done & keep up the good work. That post about your mates JCB hitting the gas pipe then hissing at him when he plays skittles was a classic! N
  12. + 1 from me, got some well seasoned elm at the mo, excellent stuff Otherwise Ash as it dosnt need much seasoning time, leaves very little residue for an excellent heat output N

    husqvarna 236

Hi Ive heard the 236 is not their best small saw, look at a 135 or a 435. If you want Stihl look at 171 or 181 However the Dolmar 420 IMO is better than all of them and only a little bit more N
  14. Excellent, Im sure there are a few differences but I hope you find it a good alternative. N
  15. + 1 from me, Dunno why more people dont give it a go, must be plenty of 'old' PCs that can't run the latest Winodws which would happly run Ubuntu. My fav is Backtrak Linux because it has no install - just boot from the disc, along with host of network & analytical tools N
  16. Hi Great location & filming, Id say the tide was on the way out so plenty of time to clear the brash Thanks for posting. N
  17. Hi I think your comment was valid when I first got interested in Linux as an alternative some 20 years ago, but things have moved on a great deal and the online support commnities are very extensive. I also found the command line extremely powerful & some of it very similar to Ms Dos Always worth a go if you have a spare box to run it on & dosnt break the bank, so its good to see a few forum users here trying it to - so well done to Openspaceman et all. N
  18. Hi Jon, You seem to have plenty to splash on iPhones, so better pay up the £40 then! N
  19. Hi Unfortunately, everything Microsoft will eventually switch to subcription based software, just wait & see. Before switching to Mac about 8 years ago, Office 2000 or 2003 was perfectly adequate & to be honest subsequent versions of office from then have added precious little of real value or use, the ribbon feature in later versions being a source of annoyance whilst O2013 was little more than cosmetic and change everything around so you have to re-learn how to exploit the more uselful features. Out of the freeware suites Id look at Open Office https://www.openoffice.org N
  20. Apologies, I stand corrected & yes you & Spud are right. Amazing the effect of friction a longer bar can have though N
  21. Hi Thought it was one of those processional catapillars, they have very fine hairs which can cause breathing problems, rash on skin & athsma. They are common in some varieties of pines here in France, but imported to UK with a shimpment of Oak from Holland in 2006 & seem to be spreading. Just thought I'd mention it just in case anyone not come across them yet. N
  22. OK, lets say you have a 7 pin drive & a bar with 70 drive links for the purpose of this (generally 68 or 72, but bear with...) Every 10 revs of the drive sproket will result in 1 rev of the chain around the bar, lets assume the chain speed for this setup is 20 metres per second. Now you fit a shorter bar & chain with 49 links - so for every 7 revs (at the same engine speed as before) you get 1 rev of the chain around the bar. Therefore the chain speed is 10/7 faster. Your chain speed is now 20 * 70/49 = 28.57 metres per second If you now fit a longer bar lets assume 140 chain links, you should be able to work out the chain speed at the same engine speed will now be 10 Metres per second. Now you fit an 8 pin drive & chain speeds are all 8/7 faster for the same engine revs, but then you need Spud to port it & provide a bit more torque Hope that explains it N
  23. Hi Agreed, Im no fan of technology that ends up costing a fortune for that reason I avoid Autotune. I have a 365 on 20" sugi B&C, its excellent - my thoughts with using a 16" are the chain speed would be fairly high, consequently the nose sprocket may suffer so consider something like a Sugi Hara bar, although reccomended bar lengths are 16-28". Anyone got a 365 on 16" confirm this? I think a 357 is non auto tune, fairly reliable saw. If you want a smaller saw of 60cc then look at Echo 620sx or Dolmar 6100 - Dont really know much about Jonsered but they seem OK. N
  24. Hi Well I think its an excellent idea & I dont run an Arb buisness but do have a few saws & strimmers etc. I can see a time when Arb insurers insist a registrar of equipment be part of the T&Cs of provision. It is unfortunate the police dont treat this more seriously as it has a very detrimental effect on buisnesses. Well done Steve N
