  1. A NAS is a fine investment they generally run Linux so more reliable & theres also some fairly nice disks available - WD Reds are excellent for NAS & the software generally caters for raid creation & management. N
  2. Thats fine, so long as you trust the cloud, I don't. Data, can & has vanished with no liability, there are a few cloud services that get it right - I wouldnt use anything MS based - Azure for example - Backblaze isnt bad, Amazon is probably one of the better comercial offerings. If you trust the cloud, then its just part of the solution - not all of it, nothing beats having independant backups on independant platforms & software. A disk in the hand is worth two in the bush? N
  3. Incidentally, If you know someone with a Mac, put the drive in a carrier & connect, I have been able to recover data from discs where a PC Bios wouldnt previously recognise the presence of a drive by simply connecting them to a Mac. worth a shot perhaps? N
  4. Hi, Nice work, well done & really great video, liked the bit where you mounted the camera on the cut branch & filmed descent. N
  5. Hi I would submit in writing a formal complaint, just ask your bank for the forms. Refrain from any ambiguity, report the full facts of the matter and state your dissapointment in the manner with which you have been treated. & if you dont get the right result change banks N
  6. Hi No I dont because as it does, it runs lean, revs increase & possibly cause damage N
  7. Hi Sorry to hear of your loss, I trust you will in future implement a good backup strategy. Two very good programs to achieve this are: Two bright sparks Backup software that works - SyncBackPro and SyncBackSE & Acronis True Image http://www.acronis.com/fr-fr/personal/computer-backup/ Both these programs are excellent & I have have used them in a variety of situations for individual, network & enterprise backups. Once you get your PC rebuilt, connect the old disk by USB connector and you may be able to recover some of the data from it. N
  8. Hi Jon, Only recently updated to Yosemite 10.10.4 Im not one for the latest OS because it can often result in non compatibility between older aplications/devices. I would search the Internet to see if El Capitan works with your current phone/software etc before updating. I also used CCC - Carbon Copy Cloner to take an image of the disk before updating. This is a rather nice piece of software takes a complete backup of your disk onto a USB drive, including the hidden 1Gb boot partition - something Im fairly certain that Time Machine dosnt do. Bon courage N
  9. Limoges - Haute-Vienne or Limoges Fourches near Paris ? Sure theres a member around there, the weather is still quite reasonable until end of October but last few days have been quite wet & windy. Meteociel - Prévisions météo pour Limoges ( 87000 ) - Météo Limoges - Météo 87000 Meteociel - Prévisions météo pour Limoges-Fourches ( 77550 ) - Météo Limoges-Fourches - Météo 77550 N

As for not singing the National Anthem thats a dsigrace Jeremy Corbyn’s biggest problem with women? We see right through him - Telegraph I daresay he'd join in with any commie song though But sings 'The Red Flag' & agreed certainly deluded, bitter & twisted N
  11. Beat me to it. You do have to be a bit careful with respect to working for some one else, if injured the house holder is liable - fairly sure thats correct. Take care N
  12. Hi Jon, Its wet & windy here - looking at the isobaric charts its coming your way if its not already, probably be worst on Weds. Just shaprened up my saws as theres bound to be some windblown to clear N
  13. OK, Thats a great shame they cant see the light, it would simplify so many things and be very easy to back up etc. I can't imagine using Excel for invoicing in this day & age. They will probably get backed into a corner one day & a highly paid consultant will come along & inform them the blindingly obvious! The best way to run Windows is in a VM, I have several versions of it for testing, the beauty of it (as you probably know) you can recover in about a minute to your last snapshot - I also keep my win data outside the VM & access it from within and let Time Machine back it up whenever it changes. N
  14. Hi 16" bar is about as big as a 250 goes, it will do 18, if chain is sharp. As suggested go as big as possible, milling places a fair stress on the saw so the bigger the better. Perhaps a 365 70cc on 24" or 28" for small stuff as you will 'lose' a few inches of bar in the milling setup. N
  15. Hi Ive seen a few worn discs in my time (our Peugots used to go through them) , but those look barely worn to me & the same for the pads. I can see looking towards the centre of the disc, theres barely any disceranble 'lip'. I would look elsewhere. N
  16. Agreed, Although some my find it daunting to write their own Access Db, you can probably obtain shareware invoicing based on Access or other Dbs and change to suit requirements. I wrote my own some 20 years ago & it does provide complete control, back then there was Sage which was expensive & very proprietory. N
  17. Hi Very poular Stateside, now owned by Husqvarna 1980's vintage so hope it still cuts well N

I would like to see the UK recover fully after many ruinous years of Labour govt, its going to take a long, long time. However, at least I have them to thank for where I live now. Governments dont do anything for anyone - their job is to lead the country, you should consider what you can do for your country, not what your country can do for you. I think several other posters also share my opinion, the Conservatives currently are the best of a poor bunch, politics is not a profession where excellence prevails but I'd much rather see them in charge than a bunch comunists led now by Corbin who has links to terrorists. Opposite the company I used to work for there were three houses, one privately owned the other two on benefit street. We never saw the owners of the first house, they left early for work & returned late. The other two the curtains would be drawn back at around 10.30 each day, the 52" wide screen TV with Sky would go on & stay on all day. I was fairly well paid in my role as network administrator & discovered the people opposite were recieving more or less the same money as I was for doing stuff all, day after day, year after year. That is not right, but it is why we have the idle society who wont work. The dole is a safety net & not a lifestyle choice. N

Hi, Hopefully thats the end of the Labour party for good. They've conned many a person into thinking they represent working people but they're only in it for their own gain, as most politicians are. N
  20. Hi Jon, Did you say it was an Argos van? if so why not tell the company you're not too happy about the way their drivers behave? N
  21. Hi Mark, Good effort & well done for fixing it Thanks Spud ref the Locktite 270 & Openspaceman about the length - noted. N
  22. Hi I have done a helicoil repair to an alloy car engine cylinder head some years ago, worked fine, can't see why it wouldnt work on a chainsaw head N

I think people post here because they want something a little better than a B&Q or Chinese (not so) special. A 171 / 135 is going to get the job done well. However there are other brands Echo/Dolmar that punch above their weight worth considering. I've always considered that 'buy cheap - buy twice'. For example we bought a washing machine 29 years ago for £800 (OMG) which still runs daily - thats amazing value. Sometimes it makes sense to pitch your sights a little higher - who knows how much use your saw may get? People in this forum have a passion for what they do, when something works year after year, rain or shine in arduous conditions, you break it & learn how to fix it, hopefully spares are available - you come to cherish & respect it - my ancient 260 that refuses to die, for example. However, both mainstream brands produce good, bad & excellent saws. My first instruction - 'there you go laddie, nay cutting wi the tip or ye'll hae yer heed off'. Good luck whatever you get, as previously stated - they all cut wood. N

Agreed, they all cut wood & tool less tensioners are complete crap Now, how about a 395? N
