  1. No I am talking bollox of course I am thinking of a Stihl 3/8 lo pro chain
  2. Usually a 1/4 Stihl "lo pro" 1/4 pitch chain is sharpened with a 4.0mm ( 5/32 in old money) dia file
  3. I am totally ignorant of carving bars - chains - technique . But a 1/4 dia file sound a bit big . What pitch chain are you using ? Only want to learn not telling you your I know better !
  4. Second that one . I have BASC insurence so if my spaniel causes any mayhem whilst in the persuit of game we are covered for , I think , 10 million ? but vet bills are mine and at the moment I am well in front !
  5. Don't know if this has been covered or not but check to see if the coil connections are on properly could be one flapping a bit and falls away from the spark unit when tipped that way - - - long shot
  6. Ice road truckers is in the same " staged " vain .
  7. I had this with a Husqvarna long reach hedge cutter . It used to " apparently run out of fuel when there was 1/3rd of a tank left . It also cut out when tilted one way , I can't remember which . It was , as suggested the fuel line in the tank . The filter had got trapped in a certain position lifting it out of the fuel when at 2/3rds empty or wen tilted in the position that left it un covered . Soooo could be that . Get a bit of welding rod or similar and make a hook and lift the filter out and reposition it , maybe ?? The only other thing that comes to mind is a dodgy stop switch / wire connection . It could be making then breaking when you tilt the saw . Just a thought . If it was me I would just give it to spud . He will sort it no danger !
  8. I saw one episode were Shelby was up to his chest in water with his big Stihl running trying to cut a big log free from the mud ! I think they tried to blow it up in the end with home made bombs !
  9. If I were you , which I am not , I would blank off the auto de comp and fit a blue button . I did it to one I had and found starting much better .

    Air rifle

It very much depends on your budget . If you don't want to spend a lot Chinese made S.M.K. CO2 powered rifles are good value . Its worth spending a little extra sending it off to get fettled by some one like " Welsh Willie " or similar . He will finish it properly and fit better seals and generally get it working more efficiently . ( he is a bit like the "Spud" of the air gun world .) A decent scope and you are away at a fraction of the cost of a top flight piece but with the same accuracy .
  11. Steve you need a cape and wear your shreddies out side of your tights and the big S on your chest will be for "SPUD" ! ! By the way have finished on the big red wood so can send the 395 for you to cast your eye over if you got space . Best regards Andy .
  12. Lovely tree , well done . All I see round here is dead elm . Good fire wood but the last mature one where I live has to be when I was a boy ( 50 odd years ago ) Dutch elm has had the rest . For some reason the sea side town of Brighton ( 20 miles down from me ) has managed to keep the desiese out . Welcome bud .
  13. Its godda breath . Really that's the top and bottom of it .
  14. Imagine a box shaped section tunnel . The top leading edge of the cutter sitting in the bottom of the slot and the tie strap links forming the roof of the tunnel . The distance between two consecutive cutter fills with chip and is carried along till it meets fresh air .
  15. Yea help us here . What is the hookem ?
  16. People have said to me I can't understand why " they " put that tree there , so close to the house . I point out the tree was there long before the house was built and I can't understand why they put that house so close to that tree .
  17. When they are blaming the fuel are they sating it was mixed the wrong ratio ( or not at all ) or are they saying it was left for too long ? Its not un heard of for people to sometimes put neat petrol in the tank an run it ! Some one did that once thinking it was the oil in the chain lube tank the oiled the engine ! I would not leave mixed fuel longer than a 4-6 weeks before I used it . Others may say not as long as that maybe . You need to check that you are mixing it correctly , the correct amount of 2 stroke oil to petrol just in case - - - -

    old saws

Hi . We all like a project from time to time but whatever you come across make sure you can still get parts ! I am thinking pot piston --- Good luck
  19. I don't think it would have been working your saw hard from the off caused the problem .There will be some other factor like an air leak , carb settings wrong or wrong mix ratio .
  20. Scads I hate em . They sneak up on you in ninja mode and give you a little tickle but then you know its tooooo late !
  21. Toooo cheap . Its sounds like a £120 to me but not seen it .
