  1. The days of the old Willans are over then !
  2. Changing from 3/8 to .325 is not "down gearing " . It just gives you more cutters for a given bar length. Standard rim sprocket is I think 7 pin . you can raise the gearing to an 8 pin but be sure that it still allows the saw to "rev out " . If it does not you stand a chance of plug fouling as it will tend to be slightly rich . You can get away with taller gear ( 8 instead of 7 pin ) if you use a relatively short bar or the saw is ported . ( see spud for porting ! )
  3. No Idea how to help but this has got to be some kind of V6 vehicle ???
  4. The mans an engineer ! new it as soon as he said Bridgeport Mill
  5. Well done . Now do you know about setting the auto tune first time you use it ?. Read the bit in the hand book .Also the hot start thing . My 560 hot starts like all the older saws NOT how they tell you in the book . Starting from hot on my 560 is ONE pump of primer bulb and pull , it starts . Don't touch the red lever . It is always in the on position . It resets as soon as you switch off . I find you don't need to touch it for hot start like it says in the book . Hope this is of help .
  6. I was trying to imagine the complicated form of the slot in the crank shaft and fly wheel to accommodate a chuck key ! rather than a standard woodruff key . Now its gone !

  8. Hi Dorset ! Welcome . Every one on here is a friend ! There is lots of advise to be had and technical help and there is Jon ( mediplogs) to keep you smiling ! Regards stubby .
  9. 254 was theeeee saw to carry round in the woods back in the day . Would not put anything bigger than 15" on though .
  10. Over night frost , clear blue sky . Wall to wall sunshine now. Going to let the stove go out till the sun drops .
  11. Porting is a magic trick performed by the grand wizard spud !
  12. Its a corker though ain't it ?
  13. That makes sens . If just ringing up big saw small bar combo is a good way to go . The 365 special is a bomb proof last for ever saw and would be ideal; .
  14. The world is your lobster as dell boy once said ! My standard answer is get the best you can possibly afford in size of saw you are looking at .
  15. The piston ring/ rings are pinned so they can't rotate round in their groove and become inline with either of the ports . I expect it came out and mullered pot and piston . Have heard of it before but never happened to me .
  16. That can some times work to your advantage if its a pile of snotty old crap that you don't want . I find if you stack it neatly with all the whit faces facing the public it gets noticed and the next day its gone . saves a job .

    404 chain

I remember reading that as well . Start with the slightly larger file and then the smaller . Its just a pain having 4 sizes instead of 3 . Laziness really .
  18. Top banana ! Well done Glen .
  19. Only the 2 ? I must be in double figures on handles !
  20. Yep I suppose he is . Did say if its still on there . Serial # on the castings then . Not sure how you date it from them but some one will know . Spud perhaps ?
  21. I think they are different purely from the primer bulb side of things . Could be wrong here . Spud will know for sure .
  22. If its still on there , there should be a sticker on the back of the chain brake handle with the date on it .
