    Snowmen

Done a few tree decorations, been playing with spirit stains, ended up with some great cock ups. Will try and post some pics if I get time
  2. Well done to all three, great photos especially Dan's
  3. That's odd I was always told it was the other way round, thought leisure batteries were designed to repeatedly be completely discharged and charged, but car batteries didn't like that and preferred to be trickled charged as they are by an engine.
  4. Like the look of the first one, is it as dark as it looks in the photos

    hawthorne

Think it's quite good for turning
  6. Nice work there, personally I can never get 2 things alike. What do you finish the pins with?
  7. Do you want to let us in on the secret of what splitter it is?
  8. Bottom section cherry, top walnut. Finish is not quite there, buffing mops should turn up tomorrow so will give them a try on this using microcrystalline wax. In the photos it looks like the curve is wrong just below the join, can't really see on the actual pot, looks a lot worse in the photos.
  9. Chris, that one of you and Santa is scary as hell
  10. Love that laced up goblet, what wood is it and what did you use for lacing? Leather thing I'm guessing.
  11. With Christmas coming up I thought I had best make something for my brother. A recent post on another forum gave me the idea of making him a quaich. A bit of head scratching followed as I'd not done one before, I think it turned out OK. Mounted the blank on a screw chuck and turned the recess Mounted it on the chuck and turned back to the handles Hollowed out and shaped the handle ring Sanded to 400 and a coat of food safe applied Next I marked out the handles and carefully cut off the excess The result, would never have got this clean cut if I hadn't bought the tuffsaw blades recommended by mutley LOTS of sanding later and I'm reasonably happy with the result
  12. Can't help at all but get it fired up after dark and stick up a video
  13. Got the one that Rob recommended in this thread http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/alaskan-mill/58216-very-cool-way-winching-your-alaskan-up-log-2.html I use washing line cord like this http://item.mobileweb.ebay.co.uk/viewitem?sbk=1&nav=SEARCH&itemId=321186169546 Which is OK but bit chunky but anything with a bit of stretch in it would do, I think Rob said he's got starter cord on his now, will probably change mine over and see which I prefer. Well worth setting up on the winch, I was really surprised how much difference it makes, thinking of making up a throttle lock to save myself having to hold it open as that's now the hard part of the job.
  14. But he said he didn't use that until he was tired! Seems like one of those idiots that thinks you have to make work as hard as possible. So, would give him a job?
  15. Couple from last weekend, windblown oak. First time using the winch, so much easier. Sorry about the photos, was a dark corner and it was drizzling.
  16. I think I would end up with either lots of sheep or really long grass. Can't see me peddling that!
  17. One from today

  19. Love that first photo
  20. How about this pair of felco secateurs? Less than £2900 (but only just) http://www.worldoffelco.co.uk/secateurs/felco-felcotronic-800--f800.html
  21. Glad to see it's not just me then, always seems like a lot of effort to turn off the foot
  22. Lovely bit of timber, did you turn the foot off? Great idea for a thread, will have to remember to take some photos of my next bowl whilst I'm turning. Seem to be stuck on doing Christmas tree decorations ATM, playing with spirit stains.
  23. Wow, that taught me loads. Thanks
