  2. Give Roweena carbs a ring.oem Carb kit should be about £12. Or fit a Chinese carb kit for £3 if your feeling tight, notched much bother with them. Personally I'd keep the original carb if possible, not that I have had any issues with cheaper copies, but if a carb kit will fix it it's cheaper.
  3. I'd say youd be fine with a 36 one 90cc saw as long as you keep it stinging sharp. My mak 7900 came with a 36 and ran it surprisingly well, but you soon know about it when its blunt. It actually also came with a Oregon 42'' 404 bar and chain as well, but haven't tried it on this ( PM me if you want to buy it!). I'd run the oil through the bar a few times in the cut ( I.e stop pushing and half throttle.) Just to make sure its oiling enough. The granberg chain is good but probs not worth the extra money. The stihl is nice, I'm pretty happy with Oregon chain, dont usually bother with dedicated ripping chain myself as not found a massive significant improvement in performance.
  4. Ring a few dealers before you buy new. Gustharts quoted me around 950 for an 880 with no bar. Also the stihl 48" bars dont have nose sprockets ( or at least some dont, duromatic are the solid nose type) which I reckon isnt what you want for milling. You 660 bar will not fit the bigger stihl range but will go on 460s etc. Some of the bars that chainsawbars sells are large stihl mount and just come with an adapter plate to fit a 660 or similar saw.
  5. 084s are pretty much the same as 880s. Belter saws. A Few parts not available now, but for the most part all the bits you are likely to need are. If you can get a good used 084 I'd be as happy with that than with a hammered 880. 076s are great, full parts availability, more torque than a 660 but probably not an enormous step up in cut speed ( if chain sharp)
  6. You may be lucky and find a good cheap 090. I looked for years and couldn't and settled on an 076 which I think@gobbypunk is selling now. 084 or 880 will.do the job nicely and easy to get spares
  7. Have had maximum success putting a line between trees above a fence and felling bits into that to save the fence. I guess it could work with a phone line? Probably best to avoid it altogether though
  8. It will now you've thought it. Usually it will be the last cut you do though, just to make sure you've had all the bother of working around them first
  9. My 026 is the same, leave it for a few weeks and hard to start, if you have used it that week starts 3rd pull.
  10. Get a carb kit for it and give the carb a good clean and replace all the bits. Might need a tune up after. That's were I'd start anyways.
  11. Did you notice it running any better apart from it all getting good and hot? Maybe its needs the little bit of pipe to shoot the hot fumes away?
  12. No heat issues like coletti?
  13. This is quite an encouraging video Gustharts say the 161t isnt in stock and they have no idea when it will be. Dont reckon I'll buy the older 160t
  14. Did you richen the h screw after drilling?
  15. Cunningly worded "genuine for makita batteries"
  16. When you knacker the bar on the 181 replace it with a 12 or 10'' bar. Will make them more nimble and quicker to sharpen, cheaper to replace chains and more handy in that it will have a different use to the 346
  17. In that video did he say about 10mins of cutting time? I was pretty into getting one of those and the tophandle version as it adds up to the same as a 161t with a battery and charger, yet is 2x saws and 3 batteries and 2x chargers. Not totally convinced after that vid.
  18. That is looking like a very worth mod. Was it just an exhaust port or have you been doing more?
  19. Not a tophandle though is it. Not as desperate for a battery ground saw though sure it would come in handy
  20. @shavey is it possible possible to get a 1/4 sprocket for this little 18v makita?
  21. The stihl would have to be very very much better. Anyone done any climbing with both and can compare?
  22. Looking at a msa 161t and just seen radmore and tucker have the makita top handle with battery and charger for 180ish. About 300quid cheaper than the stihl! https://www.radmoretucker.co.uk/shop/garden-machinery/cordless-garden-tools-and-accessories/cordless-garden-tools/makita-duc254z-18v-cordless-top-handle-chainsaw-25cm-with-5-0ah-battery-and-charger/
  23. I think you'll find a 1t electric winch will soon not be enough for you, especially if your wanting to fell things with it. The ratings on winch seems to be odd, I have a warn 9500lb ( just over 4t) winch on my truck, it works fine, but would rely on my tirfor 1.75t winch more, especially if mr ballsup is lurking around the corner
