  1. Cheers dude, you just put me off my vag supper!
  2. Wasn't that one a troll? In the last three years I can remember using the rail of my rope twice. Once for an assessment and once as a demonstration. Main line and lanyard. Never needed owt else. Can't imagine I will in future either.
  3. I've just red what you eat daily. I reckon you're fibbing about your weight, you must be a right porker! I survive on beer, nicotine, red wine, bacon butties, and takeaway (pizza, Chinese, Indian and fish and chips - apparently a varied diet is good). I'm 10 stone, 5'8" and 28" waist. I'll pay for my sins one day.
  4. When do you get time to work!? Must have massive jaw muscles! I'd be interested to know how you have all that, I.e. A dozen raw eggs in a glass?
  5. Another great analogy you lot make learning fun!
  6. From what you've said about the manner in which you encourage your climbers to use their saws, I can imagine the T540 would be well suited to your crew. It's a good powerful saw, but its fragile if you drop it on it's strop, bang it around the tree, or pull it over too hard. I think it's better suited to dismantles however, as when pruning it regularly needs choke to start, even after a couple of minutes. In my opinion the 201t is better for this type of work. I'm surprised to report though, that I've bent the AV spring on the Stihl and the Husqy is still holding up well! I'm lucky enough to have a good complement of toppers at work, so I can pick and choose depending on the job.
  7. Almost as tall as the ash tree I dismantled yesterday morning.
  8. I've always thought you boffins had made up the "Venturi effect" as an in joke to confuse is regular thickos. That analogy explained it in perfect laymans term, cheers!
  9. Good shout with the open space thing, never thought of that. Got a couple of small rec climbs coming up where I'll practice. Might even use the trainee as a target. I just need to make time were I don't have any pressure to work. As for technique I've been enjoying "the stranger" recently. For throw lining in use the cradle throw. Tried it one handed and didn't feel right. This. I lost a mouthful of very nice red wine to this comment. Cheers bud.
  10. I'm only marginally better with the big shot! I'm gonna keep at it. Once I decide I want to be good at something I usually get there, eventually!
  11. I see you point mate, sounds like it's a productive method in that environment. However I'm part of a 3 man team, and it's desperately tragic that I'm the best shot with a throw line on my team!
  12. I dare you to post a photo
  13. I try and stop myself from working too smart. Aside from looking like a know it all, if I make stuff look too easy people will think I'm not working hard enough...
  14. More if you factor in the rainy Friday afternoon climbs back to your anchor point when the bloody thing gets stuck!
  15. Mouse trapped in the flywheel cover?
  16. Funny that, when a lad comes to us from college we tell them to forget about felling at ground level and fell where is comfortable. We also have to best out of them the habit of snapping the chain brake on at full revs. That noise gives me a nervous twitch!
  17. How can people tell without seeing at least a picture. Conifers can be wider than they are tall!
  18. That sounds more gear intensive Rich. Go for the vid though, I'm sure it'll make sense. I enjoyed Jesse's vid because it was pruning work as opposed to huge dismantles. It made a refreshing change from the usual. I get more pruning work than big dismantles, so I could relate more to this
  19. Hand ascender/footloop too? Yeah I'll give it a go. I've no intention of changing from ddrt, but access would be handy. I'm always happy to gain a foot rather than 6 inches.
  20. I've gotta say, I'm finding the idea of ascending SRT appealing, would save me trying to isolate a limb.
  21. Right. I spent my half hour lunch break today trying to hand throw a line into an ash tree. My target was 70'. Out of about 30 throws, two hit the limb I was aiming for and one went over the branch but the bloody thing wouldn't come down. I settled for a 50' point in the end... ...AND I STILL USED LADDERS FOR THE FIRST 20'!!! I reckon you lot are fibbing and using some form of trick photography.
  22. Under armour cold gear base layer in winter Heat gear in summer.
  23. Ents. Vicious buggers.
  24. I bet you wouldn't get away with wearing yer boots in the house. Life's not fair eh?
  25. You must be the first person I've heard of to dislike the 460! What specifically did you hate?
