  1. But if he doesn't do it someone else will... I guess it comes down to professional pride.
  2. Do you find it hard to deal with people who's opinions differ from your own?
  3. Not to the TO, and unfortunately he sets the spec. As above, the spec is not always ideal, and the TOs are far from infallible, but at least there's something in place to prevent the wanton felling or mutilating of trees that have been there long before houses or us.
  4. You should be aware of a protected tree when buying a house. If you don't like it, don't live there. Do you think the same of listed buildings? And yes, I believe that were it solely up to the homeowner, many great mature trees would be butchered, because the leaves land on the new block paving, or the electricity bill is too high because the lights always have to be on, or whatever crap they come out with.
  5. Well for starters they're designed for the hulk. Honestly, I'd be scared to see the person that could fit into them, I have had to do them riiiiight up almost to the limit, and I wear my saddle low! Wore it on Saturday and today. Not had a big saw hanging from my harness yet, but it stops it riding down, and you don't really notice it's there, apart from the occasional rubbing on your neck. I'll probably keep it on even when I don't really need it there, since it's a bit of a faff to set up. In short, I like it. For the price however I'd take a look at the petzl one as well.
  6. And how many mature trees would be left unraped in this country were it not for TPOs and TOs? You don't have to agree with the TO's decision, but you can either appeal it, or get on with what you've been allowed.
  7. Good luck finding a decent big saw for a reasonable s/h price. People tent to hang onto them. I would buy new if poss.
  8. One has to ponder the reasons why any person would turn to this forum for a partner. Most of us come here to escape them!
  9. Sugi Hara light type bars are what Jon affectionately calls RobD bars. They are beautifully made and will outlast the Husqy bars by a looong way. Husqy make great saws but their bars are rubbish, IMO. That said, I've just traded a Sugi bar for a pair of used autographed boxers, so they can't be that great!
  10. Stihl 201t, and a ported 357 on a 15" bar, 8t sprocket. These are my saws but come out at work if we have a big dismantle cos they work better than the work saws. I timed my 441 against the works 361, both on 20" bars and my saw was over twice as fast!
  11. Off topic, but I would never have guessed. Your English is by far better than many people I know who speak it as a first language If you are using this line for work positioning only, and have a seperaye line for fall arrest, I see no issue with using a hitch and slack tending pulley on a single line. It should work well.
  12. Hang on... Who's offended who? Apart from me offending anyone who looked at that photo
  13. I'll need a photo of your Mrs before I decide if I'm offended
  14. Don't trust that Bolam. He keeps texting me for saucy photos. Hopefully this will shut him up:
  15. Yeah you can, just have to fiddle about until it works for you
  16. It's true! I wish I'd bought a 241! Love my 211 though.
  17. There is also confusion between a percentage of the canopy to be removed, and a percentage of the overall height of the tree, which is invariably harsher. I won't get into the minefield that is reduction specs, but as long as you carry out your work to a good standard you shouldn't get any quibbles reducing a couple of branches an extra half metre to bring into shape. It's academic really since you'll be pruning to the growth point nearest the specified length (or should be), as opposed to literally pruning back 2m and leaving an internodal stub.
  18. When we get a new person I'd like to start each day with us all holding hands for a prayer, followed by an aerobic stretching routine. Problem is I'm rubbish at keeping a straight face.
  19. The 620 is supposed to be a good saw. Solid and reliable. Perhaps not quite as quick as the Husqy equivalent 560xp but I reckon better suited to your needs. 20" bar max. Or a 372 like Hodge says above
