    It really depends how long my morning ablution takes. It'll be less once I eventually find out if a Husqy or Stihl is better.

    If the other firm can do the job for a lower price at a profit then fair play to them. You should look at what enables them get the job done faster and cheaper. If they cannot make a profit on the price they've quoted then walk away and let them make their loss. No point matching their quote to get the job if it won't benefit you.

    Sooo, how much should a foreman earn? I agree with the above though, a good climber doesn't necessarily make a good team leader, and vice versa. I consider myself a reasonable climber, no more or less, and I'm pretty good with sharing the little I know with newer climbers. I'm a poor team leader though, and seem to be more pally with the newer guys, rather than being harsh when it's needed.

    Perhaps, but as Matheck has proven: trees WILL fall on your house and kill your children. A gentleman in a flat cap told this to my mother once. It is all the client needs to know.

    Your best bet would be to try a few on at your nearest dealers. Failing that I've heard nothing but praise for the Distel Geckos. Do you climb with spikes to check for protected species?

    Not really. The 560 needs to be well balanced, as it's an all purpose saw. The 572 won't be used by many for snedding, which is where the outboard clutch is at it's best. Personally I prefer an inboard clutch for ease of chain swapping. How much difference do you think it really makes to how you use a saw. To choose a saw based on its clutch placement would be just daft

    It was always ambitious to hope to beat each years total I wonder how it compares to the first years takings I think it's a real testament to our industry that a ground of people (albeit rough, illiterate tree cutters) can come together and help make a difference like this. I wonder how many other trades would do that. Makes me proud. Hopefully everyone is feeling pretty good about this.

    Rubbish You'll just side with whichever is more orange 135 revs higher, but the 211 has more torque, is easier to start, and more reliable. Plus the Stihl doesn't come with a crap bar. 50cc and above, Husqy all the way

    Controversially, I reckon I should put more effort into my private life. After 4 years the mrs is expecting a proposal. I'd like to get on the property ladder. Trouble is I invest so much time into my job that these things take a back seat. Suppose it's not all about work

    Just to clarify when I mentioned 390 I was referring to the Husky 390. The ms390 is a fantastic door stop. Not much else though.

    But is he wants a 24" bar with power to spare then that's 390 territory. IME 70cc saws are at their limit pulling 24" bars. I know you can get more potential from a 70cc saw Spud but it be hesitant using it for milling. The Dolmar 80-90cc saws might be the way to go and are cheaper than the orange equivalents.

    A lot of people are against footlocking for work, due to it's alleged long term affects to your body, but I enjoy it, on the rare occasion it's actually appropriate. Just learn to footlock. Much simpler and cheaper than two pantins. Plus if one kicks out it would be a right fumble to get going again.

    Until you sold his 346 Wish I'd bought it, would have been a beaut on a 13" 8 or 9 pin sprocket! Out of interest would you mind telling me how much you sold it for?
