  1. You're not in Dynas Madwyy by any chance? I overheard a bloke in the pub in the same predicament the other day!
  2. Husky 365 or Echo 620 Aim for 20" max bar size to save you having to upgrade. Plus I'm against running max bar length on saws all the time. An 18" bar on either saw would pull nicely, and they seem to both be solid reliable saws with little to go wrong. Ideal for the serious occasional user.
  3. Absolutely. No point just roping stuff down straight over the targets. I love my redirect pulleys on jobs like this. Means I can spread the load across the tree, and rig bigger bits into open space. Our trainee lad is a gem on the rigging. Pretty ambitious sometimes but happy to deal with larger limbs in a tight drop zone. It's one of the reasons we like everyone to have a bit of experience both climbing and grounding. Makes for a much better rounded team member. You should see his face light up when we start rigging big sections off the stem. He loves it, and makes me feel a lot more confident about cutting big lumps.
  4. Cheers dude, it wasn't particularly tall, I'd say around 70' I guess. Pretty broad though, and with it being heavily reduced in the past the timber was fairly thick. All things considered it was a pretty easy climb, albeit with practically everything being rigged off over sheds, fences, and a kiddy play area. The poor sods on the deck did the real work today.
  5. Few snaps of an Ash dismantle from today. Beautiful weather and a nice climb.
  6. Can you see 3 strand anywhere? I knew I'd regret those Instagrams.
  7. Teehee... You said flange.
  8. Will green ash work?
  9. Apparently it's a Sugi Pro bar with echo printed on it. That's the only difference. After a 357 this would be my next choice.
  10. He'd heard of you. In the insurance world "tippers" is short for fly tippers.
  11. I bought on a month or so ago. Depends what you want of it. Up to 15" it's the best all round ground saw for me (I'm running 13" .325 on an 8t sprocket). I doubt it'd be outstanding on an 18". With my setup it's nothing short of beastly
  12. No, it's not.
  13. Where are you based? If you had been sent to Coventry I could help out!
  14. I think blocking down has different meanings depending on if you're a climber or carver
  15. Nah, give him a shandy and he'll be putty mate!
  16. you're my new BFF!
  17. I know what how you feel lads, I'll be fifty in twenty four years...
  18. Bigger knob?
  19. Stop ovulating mate. I took the gate out of my caritool the other week and it's made life so much easier. I don't miss having the gate there at all.
  20. My all time arb hero Adam Bourne posted a couple of pics on this for his 150 in a different thread. It's a great feature that should be standard on all toppers. If I remember I'll post a link tomorrow when I'm sober.
  21. God help me but the northern knuckle dragger is spot on by all accounts.
  22. Our climber in the making sectioning down a conny stem in a pub car park.
  23. I'd say you're spot on there. You seem to have a decent understanding on the forces applied to rigging gear, and should stick to what you know/have experience in. In my opinion the more links you introduce to a system the more complex it becomes in terms of understanding the dynamics, and the more there is to go wrong. Using a steel crab (no matter how high it's rated) with a bowline will put way more stress on the line than a half hitch/timber hitch combination. The 3t sling may be stronger than the rope, but just because the sling won't fail, that doesn't mean it's safe. An anchor hitch would be a better termination from the rigging line to the crab, but why complicate things.
  24. If you fancy experimenting I'm near enough and up for trying new things. While this reads as a desperate Lonely Hearts ad, I can assure you it's just the wine talking.
  25. What you and your mate do in your private time is hardly relevant And was the "lawn boy" consenting?
