Local Garden centre is selling 2.5' softwood ones at £15 a pop. Problem is I doubt customers would pay a premium for Ash, since it's just to burn outside. I'd say the size will affect demand more than the quality. Story of my bloody life. -
The Eastern European equivalent are cheaper.

Appreciated, but one day there'll be a circumstance where a 4x4 would be really handy/fun, and I'll regret listening to the voice of reason. Besides, a small van isn't nearly as good at compensating for the chipolata.

He was being generous, I could tell he was used to far bigger things. I don't NEED a 4x4. I've got by with a Fiesta for long enough. I WANT a 4x4, and for the money I might as well. It's a good suggestion, one I'd never considered.

Cheers Eggs, there look to be some decent ones for around 2.5k Do the rear seats fold forward? What kind of mileage is the 2.7 diesel good for? For around 2,500 I'm looking at 10 years old and 100,000 ish miles.

The difference between removing major deadwood (anything potentially dangerous) and total removal of every dead twig on the tips is vast. Make sure you clarify this to the client, and offer a price for both options. Most won't want to pay the extra, but if you don't stipulate the difference in your quote you may be expected to remove the 5mm twigs!

Why shouldn't you have to buy them? They aren't mandatory ppe so an employer isn't obliged to provide you with them. I'm particular about what gloves I wear so I just buy my own!

Hmm, seems a good choice, but the mileage would put me off at 20mpg. Ideally I'd like a 4x4 with enough grunt to pull 750kg, nothing more. It'd need enough space to carry kit, and get 30mpg min. Oh and for 2-2.5k. Sorry for the hijack Adam.

Cheers, the only vans I've found on auto trader under 100k are going for at least double that. My budget is the same as yours basically, so it's good to know there are decent vans about for that money. I'd love a 4x4 pickup but just can't justify the money!

Good find Adam. Mind telling us a ballpark figure if how much you paid? I'm looking for something similar in the near future, but any van with sub 100k on the click seems to be demanding big money.

Husky 365 or Echo 620 Aim for 20" max bar size to save you having to upgrade. Plus I'm against running max bar length on saws all the time. An 18" bar on either saw would pull nicely, and they seem to both be solid reliable saws with little to go wrong. Ideal for the serious occasional user.

Absolutely. No point just roping stuff down straight over the targets. I love my redirect pulleys on jobs like this. Means I can spread the load across the tree, and rig bigger bits into open space. Our trainee lad is a gem on the rigging. Pretty ambitious sometimes but happy to deal with larger limbs in a tight drop zone. It's one of the reasons we like everyone to have a bit of experience both climbing and grounding. Makes for a much better rounded team member. You should see his face light up when we start rigging big sections off the stem. He loves it, and makes me feel a lot more confident about cutting big lumps.

Cheers dude, it wasn't particularly tall, I'd say around 70' I guess. Pretty broad though, and with it being heavily reduced in the past the timber was fairly thick. All things considered it was a pretty easy climb, albeit with practically everything being rigged off over sheds, fences, and a kiddy play area. The poor sods on the deck did the real work today.
