  1. I don't really see the point of levelling the log. You only go off grain if your first cut is out. I don't very often mill with an alaskan these days. My lucas goes up to 6m so only use an Alaskan if I need a beam longer than 6m or tree acsess is bad, but avoid bad acsess trees unless the money is worth it. Lucas or alaskan I would rather be Milling down hill than level. The method you describe is much the same as the method in will matloffs chainsaw Milling book.
  2. Measure the longest ladder you have.Get some 4x2 4x1 etc cut just over the width of the ladder.Fix a piece of wood at the narrow end of the log the correct distance from the center and a thinner one at the root end the same distance from the center. String a line between the two nice and tight. Fix wood at intervals shorter than the ladder in line with the line. Put ladder on top of wood and slide along as necessary. You could do it with a level but you would have to level the tree so the center was level first which isn't easy.
  3. Yeah mine is 30hp. So if the carriage is shorter what's your max log diameter?
  4. I've had the model 8 for about 8 years or so. Awesome machine. Especially when coupled with the slabber. Always wondered what the difference is. I assumed its just the gearing, but that doesn't explain the price difference. You know the hp of your engine?
  5. There is no real worth in the tree until its milled and Milling is hard work and a gamble. Can't see any one knocking any money off the job for the potential income from Milling. A but that size could potentially earn you 2k in milled timber but the work, time, space, investment etc etc make it worth as i said before beer to £150 erring on the side of beer.

Ok. So a 5 van site is allowed. But the 5 acre site would require planning to run for more than 56 days.

Yeah that's what I thought the law was. Didn't know about the 56 day extension though.

But you would need planning permission for a permanent site. You can't just turn any field into a permanent year round camp site can you?
  9. What model did you go for?

You get 28 days a year with no planning permission. Could be a good earner if you can get some toilets and showers.
  11. I Agree with the rest of the advice. Expensive removal. The trunk looks like its worth Milling if the acsess is good. The only bit worth Milling is the bit on the path side of the fence. Trunk could be worth £150 max(if closer to road) more likely id offer you some beer for it though. If you want Slabs you can pay me £500 to come mill it for you after the tree surgeon has cleared it up.

It was your comment that people who couldn't home school kids shouldn't have them that I was referring to. Not all kids are 6 years old. I did well at school but wouldn't stand a chance of teaching my daughter at the level she is at. My 11 year old son I can handle. Is also important to remember that kids as well as adults have mental health issues. Some may even "jump off bridges". Miss mental health issues can be compounded by the isolation of home schooling, bad parenting, unstable home life, online bullying etc etc. All these things are linked and don't assume that all kids are happy at home. Many are abused and have no solace from attending school. If the parents are struggling the abuse may be getting worse.
  13. Fireproofing is not An issue on a domestic Two storey. Wether you will need planning will depend on local planning bye laws. Where I am in England planning would not be required unless in a conservation area.

Good at a level maths are you? Or gcse physics?
  15. Near Milton Keynes. Not exactly close. What size do you need?
  16. 12v charger will be better and use less power than charging through an invertor. Although you may get quicker results with the big 500w 240v charger and have the benefit of using through a 240 plug too. Make sure you get a pure sine wave inverter. I have this 1000w invertor fitted in my van. Never had any problems with it and comes with remote on off switch Pure sine wave power inverter 1000w DC 12V to AC 240V with Remote Control with AC outlet &2.4A USB Port for RV Truck Car Giandel: Amazon.co.uk: Car & Motorbike WWW.AMAZON.CO.UK Pure sine wave power inverter 1000w DC 12V to AC 240V with Remote Control with AC outlet &2.4A USB Port for RV Truck Car Giandel: Amazon.co.uk: Car & Motorbike
  17. It will depend on the charger not the battery. The qc 330 charger is 330w so if that's what you have I would use a 500w invertor. Most battery chargers will be running at much lower wattage and charger slower.
  18. This is what i was going to suggest. Easy to make and easy to fabricate some channel and wheels into the rollers. You canals the doors louvre style by just making frames and got the cladding use feather edge with a piece of half inch timber screwed on top of the fixing points before fitting next board. If you have roller doors you can not have doors for all of them but could choose which ones to put doors over by sliding them along the bays.
  19. I also have a cscope cs4pi. Detect it before you start. After a bit of practice you can start to suss out depths a little bit.. Detect after each slab. Then you can just chop out the metal with a saw with a smallish bar. Saves a lot of money on Milling chains. Its the stones and concrete that are the problem.
  20. Brown oak machined into 8mm tongue and Groove. Had gone a tiny bit too far in places but looks awesome.
  21. Where you located and what size do you need it? I could fold you one from ali quick enough
  22. Can't get this one?
  23. Whoops. Pretty sure it's blue Monday
  24. I think you are correct except for the walking dead which I think is the zombies
  25. Not sure where to get one but they are available. Trouble with stihl is that on skip chain they are hard to use accurately and on the 5 skip chain used on lucas etc they just don't work. I tend to file all my Milling chains by hand with the carlton. I find it gives me a chain that cuts well for longest. If the chains are damaged or climbing in the cut etc then I get them back to perfect with an granberg precision grinder. Although as already mentioned I don't think this will cut as well for as long as a hand filled chain.
