    Elm

nice bit of elm, I see somebody has already had the burrs away from the base of the trunk, pity that
  3. you should have been able to do a quick calc on the weight based on a quick vol rec, the tree lying on the groundapprox 6-7 cube, plus the branches and greenery approx 2 cube...take euccy at roughly 600=750 a cube, ...total between 5 1/2 and 6 1/2 ton, and always err on the heavy side.......better light than overweight, not a black art, just logic
  4. the wearing of protective gear when using a chainsaw is not, and cannot be made enforceable, H&S, and puwer, advise for its use, but user discretion is also allowed..i.e. in a situation when it might be to warm and the risk of heatstroke, and other things like this. the whole argument about chaps or trousers is pointless because its like comparing apples and oranges, and as for protection....look at the rating ...1,2, or3, this refers to the chain speed in m/second, and as most folk are wearing type A's with a rating of 1, anything with a chain speed faster than 20m/s will penetrate the trousers, the bigger the saw, and shorter bars gets worse, check out FISA advice for large saws....min 2's, and better 3's, same with boots
  5. Johnsonond, your loading ramps are awee bit more substantional than woodlands own design, they rely on the two plates to locate and suport the ramps, quite a clever design, to work with there trailer setup, Ive looked at it as well, the ramps, yes, I'll copy the design and adapt , but the winch mount, not 100% about that, it relies on the log stop, and its not very substantial, and only 2 little welds, theres been a few cases of the welds breaking and/or the square section distorting, so Im still looking at a method to mount a winch pole
  6. maybe a little overthinking things, theres a lot more to wear before that bit would even be noticeable as wear, and even if it does, a blob of weld and a redress with a grinder= good as new (a welder is a putiton tool for steel...lol)
  7. I voted to leave, the original EEC is not what it has become, open border trading is, and was a good idea, a group of idiots trying to set rules for different countries is not, we were all sold out by the Mastricht treaty , and have been lied to ever since. and much as I voted snp, I do not fully agree with there current policies, I do however believe the people behinf the scenes, the faceless men, who actually make the descissions can be trusted to do the right thing when it comes to our future.......you didnt think for a minute sturgeon was actually coming up with all the good stuff
  8. trigger andy, they do not like being told the truth, we scots cant look after ourselves, we are too small, too poor, too stupid, etc, the whole population has been lied too for 300 years, and they are still brainwashing the population and lying to it, even when you quote actuall independantly verrified facts , they still deny it, and as for a dislike for the SNP, yes, once independance is in place, everyone can vote for who they like, thats the beauty of an independant nation, your not dictated to by another bunch of lying greedy idiots hell bent on making there fortune off your back, I still find it very strange the amount of uk residents that shout out in favour of other small countries asking to become indipendant, but scream at us saying we cant, were stupid, etc, in the big picture an awfull lot of the worlds already saying that they will support and trade with an independant scotland, the time is right for the break, saor alba
  9. Im proud to live in scotland , and call scotland my home, after working round most of the world, this is still one of the most beautifull and varied countries in the world, and why is it wrong to want your country to be free to make its own decissions, if it was any other country you would all be supporting there independance, perhaps the fear that maybe we are telling the truth, and englandshire needs us more than we need you...........
  10. cheers numbnuts?......taken with a shitty camera on an old samsung phone (not by me, i always forget to take piccies)
  11. not the best of photos, but the wire is just visible
  12. nice looking trailer, have you used the drawings that were originally on the woodland site, and had a little artistic licence. A quick look at your legs and they seem to have the female portion thats bolted onto the main trailer a lot shorter than whats on the woodland supplied one i have, they are also a very tight fight together. looking at the arm set up for hydraulic loadingthere appears to be a very short/long ratio on the actual lifting arm, great for a lot of travel on the lift, butvery limiting on what its actually capable of lifting, the stress on the area round the pivot point must be intense when a heavy log is being lifted. I am fortunate at the moment in the fact my own mill is set up in the woods and I've been able to run a basic skyline above it, a set of tongs on a cum-a-long provides the lift from ground up onto the bed, not the quickest, but for the moment suffices.
  13. I wasnt going to get involved in this parody any more but certain things need to be clarified, on the subject of taxation, yes the higher rate is 1pence dearer in scotland, a whole 1% for the minority who pay it. and if bawjaws can claim he has a mandate with the figures that are being bandied about then sturgeon, with higher figures can also do so, and now for a little known fact for all you superior southerners out there....legally scotland is the senior country in the union, how so, James the 6th of scotland was asked to take up the crown of england to keep the stuart line(which incidentally doesnt exsist anymore, you are now rulled by the gothe saxe-coberg dynasty of german extraction), at the time of acceptance. scotland was the only one of the two countries with a soverign, and a constitution, england still has no constitution by the way, therfore it automatically assumed seniority by default, and lastly, if bawjaws, in his arrogance denies the scottish people the right to a section 30 referendum, he will start a legal procsess will will lead all the way to an international court and could see far reaching effects on england as a country. the next couple of months are going to be very interesting in the political proscess, and not as simple as everyone has been led to believe, enjoy your trip back to victorian england guys, and start learning how to be subserviant to your rich, elite masters again
  14. and just to put the icing on the cake......if you look at the top of your rails, they're machined flat, not the rounded profile of normal angle rolled steel.........not daft these boys at woodlands...lol....anyway, what you get for your money is well worth it, rails, bunks, hold downs, all the hardware, and all galvanised, painted and ready to build, whats not to love.......except maybe 2 extensions...........nuff said
  15. unless you plan to replace all the rails, stick with the extension pack, remember the mill is built with chinese imperial measurement steel, good luck finding equivalent sizes in the uk
  16. johnsond, dont know where theyve gone, not in the workshop, but thats what they look like, triangular plates, line up with the spindle hole, the bolt that holds the wire wipers and the hole you drill through the trailer, and its 19" from the back edge of the trailer to the back edce of the mill on the extended trailer( frame is roughly over the wheels)
  17. as I used the earlier setup I didnt use the blocks, theyre in my workshop somewhere, I' try and find them and get a photo
  18. by the very design of a bandsaw you will get a slightly rippled effect to the cut, the chainsaw mill will always win out on finish.......till you run a pro bandsaw with a 6"+ band width
  19. theres an assembled block thats held in place by the wheel spindle bolt and another one beside it x4, you then drill through the rail(drill supplied !) and insert locking pins, they give a dimension from the back edge to locate the carraiage, think its ariund the 19" mark, but I'd need to dig out the assy manual to get the exact size.......as I built my setup using one of the earlier sawmill builds, its different, but proves you can do it with a pre-2017 mill, I have the sheet from woodland mills detailing the differences
  20. one of the cheapest sources for all things hydraulic is a company called parquip good webshop
  21. and as a side note...we used to use the solution to paint onto boards that were going to be in contact with the ground, when it dried it was a plastic like coating as hard as steel
  22. polystyrene cups are very easily re-cycled, a small bin container with a solvent is used, the cups melt in seconds and you continue to put cups into the solution until no more will dissolve, the recycling companies then take this styrene solution back for re proccsessing into more polystrene products, a company I used to work for could get rid of a barn size pile of packaging into a 45gall on drum which was delivered 1/4 full of solvent and returned full to the brim with the styrene solution, this is packing that would otherwise have gone to landfill
  23. Bij J, nice figures, but rather one sided, where does it show the revenue raised by taxation and sent south from where an amount is then sent back, or the fact that every drop of whisky produced in scotland is currently marked down as ENGLISH exports, just because it leaves from a southern port, and surprise surprise, the tory goverment conveintly "lost" billions of barrels of oil whist doing its calculations, or the fact that oil from the new field west of the shetland islands was loaded direct to ships to prevent it being logged as production in scotish waters, there are more funny fiscall transactions over the scotish funding issue than any other thing...apart from MP's expenses
  24. this is the thing people cannot get into there thick heads......first task of a goverment in a newly independant country would be hold an election, people could then have who soever they wanted running there country
