  1. aye rusty, moved a big load of stuff up to a farm on bennane hill for a mate, it was working hard that day !!!!, well, village idiot, I learned the art of reversing them many years ago in the RAF, its a long spine "s" type, used to be able to do 2 at a time, these days, the one will do just fine.........lol
  2. 1 new trailer to conver to a timber hauler, fetched home today, got to love ex military stuff, cost a fortune and sold off for pennieshttp://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/images/smiliesmodern/thumbup.gif

    Trailers

strangly enough I just bought a trailer to use with the mog today, an ex RAF "s" type weapons trolley fitted with the long spine mod, 6mtr lengths of timber and loads up to 12 ton, all agri rules of course....lol
  5. Ive tried most over the years, 12v, 14v 18v and 24v, air ones, 240vmains ones and now have a milwaukee 18v 3/4 drive, there latest version, and if this doesnt take it off, your cutting it with a grinder, Ive broken 19mm dia bolts with it due to nuts being imoveably seized on, it generates something like around 1600nm of torque, and comes with 2 5ah batteries, mog wheel nuts are now a pleasure to take off
  6. theres a new woodlands mill due out very soon, apperently a bit bigger and beefier
  7. nice machine Teed, should do most of your timber, I have a 12" (305mm) sedgewick myself and find it covers just about anything I ask it, what questions you got about jointing/thicknessing your wood, Ill see if I can answer them
  8. hmmm, interesting I will have to investigate this further, looks like, as you say, there is no actual formal certification for grading softwood or hardwood in the green state
  9. Oaklay, horticulture is one of the hardest ones to actually prove usage, although the exemption actually states agriculture, horticulture, and forestry, they seem to deem horticulture as market gardening, and as for towing your alpine behind a mog, get ready for some complete wierdness......both vehicles registerd as agricultural machines.... mog on red diesel, alpine on red...ok, mog on white, alpine on red...ok, mog on white, alpine on white...ok, mog on red, alpine on white....not ok.....work that out !!!!, comes down to whether your cuting agri roadsides, garden roadsides, public park roadsides......I sugest you look up the HMRC site on the use of rebated fuels, find the section that lists the various exemption rules, print it off, and keep it in your mog when you get it, also a very usefull sheet to keep in the vehicle is the section from construction and use act which defines what is actually an agricultural machine/tractor, I've found that even the know it all traffic plebs back down when presented with the actuall rules in black and white, they know they cant argue and must accept them. It also helps to have the right answers ready, and refuse to get drawn into any argument or disscussions, as they'll twist your answers to suit there own interpretation of the rules
  10. I've had to turn a good paying job down today as the client needs the timber grading after its cut, so I'm wondering whats involved in becoming a timber grader, and are there courses available
  11. a few facts most of you dont seem aware opf concerning mogs.....lwb models are very rarely available as agri spec due to how the TPL mounts, similary crawler gear setups not very common on lwb, age of vehicle will determine engine type, OM352a or OM366a or OM366la, OM366 motors rev slightly lower and usually have the high speed axles fited....but not always, the lower revs mean just the same 50ish speed, if your going to use it for arb work, even commercially, your stuck with an O licence and white diesel, or take the risk of being hammered by DVSA, (there is NO grey area, its been hammered to death on here before) Unless you absolutly require the abilities of a mog i.e. in the forests, or off road, think about getting something easier to run and get to grip with, an RB44, or an ex military 4x4 truck, youll get your pto, and tipper box capability, but save on the grief of running a full blown mog

    My logtrailer

as long as you tow it with a quad registered as light agricultural, the weight limit doesnt apply, only a 25mph limit
  13. if you only planked it a month ago, it'll still be green in the centre, doesnt matter how long its been lying, unless the fibres are exposed it wont give up its moisture
  14. get wet, skins waterproof !
  15. there are far to many ambulance chasing law firms in the uk, they look to make money out of anything, trip over a kerb....make a claim, bump into a pole....make a claim, etc, its time a lot of the senile old idiots in charge of the legal system were booted out and these shysters were held accountable, start hiing a few of them personasklly for costs, locking them up for contempt, then maybe we might get back to a system that worked honestly, like it was supossed to, to cover the cost of a non blame accident, because it was an ACCIDENT, these things happen
  16. all your friends at FISA have the fiorestry industry tied up tighter than a bow string, if your not part of the clique, your unenployed, as gnfencer says, I to will be surprised if the FC still excists in its present form, Itll be a private company bleeding public money for a select few clever operators
  17. has anyone heard, or got conformation that PA1 is now reqd for planting commercial coniferous woodland
  18. isnt there anold regulation somewhere that states a council cant own property, they can only hold it in trust for the people, I know they get round that by forming fraudulant ltd companies and sailing very close to the illegal side of fraud
  19. a U300 for 25k........not even in fantasy land, there are a few second hand U300's knocking about, usually ex utility company ones, you would need to check the specs on any one very carefully, PTO's on mogs run through a seperate gearbox and are not connected to the crank directly, rear runs conventional, front runs reversed and high speed option matches crank rotation, the U300 is the smallest of the fishbowl screen models in carrying capacity, and has been phased out. if your on a 25k budget you would be much better looking at an older square cab model, U1500, if you want a smaller framed model or U1700or U2100 model if you are wanting the larger frame, long wheelbase models, add a 50 to the model no. or if you wsnt longer U 1700 36, or 37, for the 2.6mtr or 3.7 mtr( also aplies to ex utility U2100's etc ), you have the problem with the long wheelbase models as very few of these were produced as agri spec machines due to the complexities of fiting rear linkages, again they are out there, but command higher prices. Good luck finding a mog that suits you, there will be one out there somewhere, just takes time and money to get it.
  20. cold, so cold the politicians have there hands in there own pockets cold......
  21. why does everyone jump on the bio bandwagon as a green alternative, its anything but, uses methanol and sodium hydroxide in its production, 2 more unfreindy chemicals would be hard to find, if you want to go green, use straight waste veg oil, (wvo), well filtered, de watered, and mix up to 50/50 with normal diesel, dont use it in a common rail motor though, any of the older things will run it, unless its got an epic pump, hunt around, you can usually get it for free, and a litle effort, fuel costs drop to around 50p a ltr...legally....you can make and use 2500 ltr a year without paying tax on it
  22. its a pretty straight forward day surgery job, couple of days of twinges and pain, and a lot of stiffness, but you should be up and about within a day, lots of physio and youll be fine, just remember no kneeling down, or direct pressure on your kneecap area for about 3 month at least
  23. stoped getting the licence letters since I returned one telling them I didnt wish to fund the peadophile pension fund, never heard from licensing again
  24. if it isnt the UK, why bother with any ppe, just switch on your common sense, it worked for years before the nanny state took over,
  25. old pitch pine beams.......full of hiden ironwork, and murder to mill, tell him minimun cost 1/2 day dont do hourly rate, and he pays for every band or chain damaged, plus your set up and change time
