  1. Andy your keeping yourself busy and that is a big part of smoking. Keeping yourself busy from now on will make you understand how silly smoking was in the first place. Take care and stay safe, smoke free. elg
  2. Wow that was painful. Do they have safety cones in the UK for securing a work area? I wonder if that safety tape was HSE approved?. Wonder how they disposed of the trunk/limbs afterwards?. At least here in the states most fire departments have at least one chain saw to work with and usually one person to work it. elg
  3. I would include your Insurance cost and any and all taxes you will be paying for your jobs. Unless you have already figured these Two items into your hourly rate they should be included. Like anywhere else the going labor rate will vary and you will encounter competition so you will need to be prepared for that. Your fixed cost are most of everything you have listed and I have suggested. Your Variable or nor re occuring cost are a little more tricky to calculate. After that you still have to come up with a profit off of your hired labor and one for your self. It take a little time but you can and will do it. All the best. elg
  4. I believe my "eutopian concept" is based more in reality than the present means of funding a society by having a level playing field. As far as the current US debt and funds owed to China, which does not hold the highest amount of said debt. A Flat Tax would limit the amount of funds available to work with and a balanced budget amendment at the Federal level would see to it. In my state of Florida we are required by our constitution to have a balance budget every year. No balance budget no funding and the state shuts down until the budget is completed and signed off by our Governor. No continuing resolutions or running of the presses 24/7 to keep the currency floating. The Trillions of dollars you claim we are in dept for is not set in stone and most of this spending has not taken place and I believe it will not take place as well IMO. Since I did say it would take at least one generation to see any longer term results I can accept your opinion that it could take longer. I feel we have Two choices more of the same or living within ones means. I choose to live within my own means and the rest of this country ie the US needs to wise up and smell the coffee ASAP. I would still invest in the best equipment because it is a reflection of how my business operates. As far as hourly rates are concerned in regards to diverse types of work there will always be another company ready willing and able to compete for work otherwise there would not be any competition. Hourly wages for jobs will be based on what the customer is willing to pay and happy or sad the same customer will be after said job is completed. easy-lift guy
  5. You were even luckier that you did not get a full body cavity search!, there tough in Chicago. elg
  6. Sounds like you should try using a Carbide chain since the material your trying to cut is better suited for that type of chain. elg
  7. FLAT TAX, AND A BALANCED BUDGET FROM TOP TO BOTTOM. Do not spend more than you bring in. Living within ones means is not really a new concept, just one that has not been practiced by the masses for a long time. would take at least One generation to see any longer term results. Problem is most of the population has been on the dole/public well fare programs for so many generations, that the resistance would be very strong against such a solution. Any how I am not really a genius just willing offer a viable alternative to being taxed into oblivion. I to look forward to other opinions. easy-lift guy
  8. I have not tryed one yet, however all of the dealers I know of are doing very well with them as well as at many tradeshows. easy-lift guy
  9. Draining the fuel and transporting in a case would be fine for the mass transit system here in the states. Rover it sounds like you were auditioning for a Capital One Credit Card ad here in the states. If anyone was to ask you "what's in your wallet", it better be a Capital One Credit Card! All the best. easy-lift guy
  10. Touche Mark and if the VAT was scraped all together in your country there would be such an economic BOOM, the likes of which most if not all of Europe could not begin to understand. IMO you pay a VAT tax because your told to, not because there is any actual "Value". How the tax man can claim Value from a tax on most everything ppt included is nearly as illusionary as Jasper Maskelyne during WWII, actual difference Jasper Maskelyne was the real thing. The Tax man is still pretending, getting away with it. elg
  11. Some people are so shifless. Hope they recover all of the dogs, can't begin to know how the owners feel right now. Thanks Matt for putting out the APB, "All Puppies Bulletin" elg
  12. Here in the states we are tax exempt when purchasing raw material for a finished product. Everything else is taxable/deductable. At 20% Tax for most items sold I would make sure that every one of my suppliers not only knew what was taxable but clearly stated the non-taxable items as well. After all it is not all of the Governments money, unless your willing to part with it all. elg
  13. Marc, I would recommend, An Illustrated Guide to Pruning 3rd edition by Doctor Edward F. Gilman. Presently available at Amazon.com Price $80.49. The price is well worth the investment. All information is well document and is in the form of a text book. For someone just getting started in this business or for anyone else in this industry I can not recommend this book more highly. All the best easy-lift guy
  14. Thanks Graham, For the 5 min's or so it took me to read your history lesson it brought back fond memories of stories my adult family members told me as a child. It is a pity that today's generation can not or will not learn from the past. Interesting and true as far as I can tell and remember history. easy-lift guy.
  15. Pretty harsh, do you hate owners of pets as well?, hope not for your sake. What go's around comes around. easy-lift guy
  16. Carlo I am proud of you. Sometimes when someone does something for someone else and there is no thanks, that happens. Same for non payment for services rendered, even though no bill was submitted, fuel cost were going to be covered by some one. Your selfless act of kindness and compasion for a total stranger and her beloved pet cat speaks volumes for you as a person and a member of this forum. I commend you. JOB WELL DONE! All the best. easy-lift guy
  17. Good on you, Larry you sly dog!. Geting on the aspca call list is good advertising and that way you can let every future call know there will be a charge for services rendered. Sounds like Karen was just what Larry needed for a job well done. Thanks for sharing and the Happy Ending? All the best. easy-lift guy
  18. Might I suggest an estimator for tree companies or ground supervisor. Maybe you could also be a Gofor and watcher for Kit protection. Not sure what the pay could be but all important jobs for the more mature less fit and strong employee. elg
  19. Good plan, I have done the same when preparing a Landscape design for clients and deduct the charge for the design if they select my company to perform the work, otherwise the client pays for my design work. elg
  20. Yes my saw is secured when not in my hands, It takes more time and is not really convenient and I know there are people watching me to learn my movements and actions. I do not give my enemy any additional ammo to work with against me or my company. elg
  21. If the tree officer treats all others in your working area the same way, than yes I would charge more since time is money. Could just be the TO in question?. That will be interesting to find out. Good Hunting. elg
  22. I concure with windfall. What the MP is suggestion is the the government involve it's self in some sorta of price fixing of a commodity, in the real world it will not occure since there are cartels presently controling supply/demand. elg
  23. Guess I have been lucky or I have not forgot yet. In any case nothing is 100% but the cost to replace and time to do so always makes me think twice. Not really wanting to bust anyones body parts, just my outlook on the matter. Stay safe and do everything you can to protect you kit. elg
  24. Theft is theft, When I am at a job site and I have my equipment is secured and stowed. There are many situations where thiefs are given chances anywhere anytime. If I leave my kit out in the open or in the back of a truck or trailer in plain sight good or bad hood it is up to me to secure it when not in use. It's not left for chance or bad luck, really don't like them odd's., and I don't depend on them. I do depend on myself and always remembering that it is me against them. Them who are willing to steal from a easy mark and never give it a second thought. Everyone must be proactive and never give in to them! easy-lift guy
  25. Again my point exactly. Did you have the saw secured in the back of your truck?, was it in plain sight??, with hundreds of post on this sight when will members learn that you can not leave any thing out in plain sight unsecured at any time PERIOD!. Thiefs are counting on you to be non complacent and un aware of your surroundings, remember they are in business stealing your kit and your business is to protect your kit at all times how else can you earn a living and put food on your table and afford new replacement kit???. For more information and tips visit my thread means and methods on how to protect your kit from theft. easy-lift guy
