  1. You should do start doing comedy nights in the greenmech factory pete !
  2. Your right it one of city's and yes they are a big outfit.
  3. I've just read this thread from start to finish. I used to have 2 trucks when I lived in the southeast ( 7.5 & 10 ton ) carrying out my arb works. I've also done some artic work hauling various trailers for others in their tractor units. As far as I'm concerned Nick is welcome to the money he earns, dealing with vosa, applying for your o license, paying for it, having your 6 or 8 week checks done and paying for them, paying for somewhere safe to keep your trucks and putting fuel in them ain't cheap and can be hassle. As regards to the people moaning the tacho rules and hours, wait until you've done a bit of this type of work and then see what you say then.
  4. Check with driver what he is good for weight wise from where he sets up but if he is close by with a 100 ton crane and as your new to it, do that tree in 5 lifts. Anchor into the top, take far left limb 1st, then middle left down to bottom fork. Far right limb next and then go up to near your anchor and connect chains 1/4 to a 1/3 of the way down from top, go down and take that last stem at bottom fork level. Last cut I reckon will be from the base but have a think about what it's weight and again check with driver. Hope this all makes sense
  5. Sorry to hear of your loss, 10 years ago I was contracting in north west Kent and I lost a transit and entec chipper, never to be seen again. Sadly that part of the world has more than its fair share of thieving types.
  6. Hi bumble, A couple of years ago I attended the AA consultants course and they show you how to lay out a report and what you should include and leave out etc., it covers the whole role of the consultant and is time well spent. Well worth the money, maybe something to think about in the future.
  7. Very interesting shots David. I worked for Croydon council in the early 90's and every winter planted many street trees. When ever I back in Croydon I now see that the same trees I planted have started to have some work done to them. Makes me feel old ! I wish I had taken more photos back them of the arb work we carried out so I could compare like you have.
  8. Lucky it was a small shock mate, could of given you a real belt. Stay save.
  9. I tried doing the same once (but not climbing up a roof) but there was a BT cable running up the building and it pulled that down also.
  10. Sorry guys, I've got a job booked for next weekend so it will have to be next time for me. Post some pictures if you get a chance.
  11. Steve, How much do you pay approx. to have it swept ?
  12. I'm only going on what I've brought over the last few years at shows. Brought a new harness, rope and helmet last year and they were all cheaper than normal price. Best deal was a husky that was £120 cheaper than everyone's else's best price.
  13. How soon are you thinking of buying one ? You could wait until June and go to the arb show and try the lot before you buy and normally there a little cheaper at the shows.
  14. Fitted a 5kw woodburner last year to heat living room and with the doors open the hallway and kitchen a little. I reckon Ive saved about 1/3 on my oil cost over the year, approx. £300. The wood I burn costs me nothing but if I had to buy it I think it would work out move expensive than oil. Plus to spread the cost of the woodburner, flue and building fireplace etc I sometimes wonder why people who have to buy wood bother having new burners fitted ?
  15. Thanks for all the posts, I tend to have it burning hard all the time so it shouldn't be that bad. I'm going to have a look in the inspection hatch over the weekend. Thanks again guys
  16. I done cs32 instead of refresher training a couple of years back, ticks both boxes !
  17. I've never used creatine but I've had tennis elbow over the last month or so. Had a bit of it about a year ago. Maybe it's something to do with the cold/damp days or could i be feeling the affects of nearly 20 years climbing ?
  18. One of the cons from my point of view is that when I take a saw apart to work on or fix the bio oil seems to gunk the saws up more than mineral based chain oil and are harder to clean.
  19. Evening all, I have a 5kw esse woodburner with an external twin skin stainless flue. How often do you guys sweep your flues or have them done for you ? I only burn seasoned wood around or below 20% moisture content so I don't put any old crap in it. Thanks in advance
  20. Sat nav playing up ?
  21. I'm an associate member, be so for a few years.
  22. I've been using saws for nearly 20 years now and until the last couple of years was a stihl man through and through but husky have really caught my eye. I use a 372xp and am very, very happy with it. From what you have said you need the saw for I'd try to get a good second hand 346xp or treat yourself to a new 560xp. You won't regret it.
  23. I might be wrong but I thought if you had 5 or less employees you didn't need a written h&s policy but regardless of company size you need to complete site specific RA's. Is this where the number 5 has come into it ? You need to comply with PPE and loler regardless of size.
  24. If I can make the day I'd be happy to spend all day with you new guys, show you my gear, go though the basics, hopefully get you up aloft and answer as many questions that you may have.
  25. We've got that type of walling/banks round here (aberaeron, on the west coast of Wales). Where in Cymru are you facecord ?
