  1. Must be the same all over. Drives me mad all the organization we put into roadside jobs to minimize inconvenience to public then these arrogant marshals stick a beacon on their car and take over,Making things more dangerous a lot of the time.
  2. Thanks. Thats good. I went once on a Saturday (years ago , Lockerbie I think) and it was pretty much winding down from dinner time on
  3. Flying over early Friday morning. Hope to make show by 11. does anybody know if it goes on for full day Saturday?
  4. Very few of these around and the best ones getting old. Good forestry cutters mostly become machine drivers or arb climbers. with all the walking ,carrying of saws etc over forest terrain and working in remote areas a lot of the time, these guys need to be well paid
  5. Guy who does our van maintenance has 8 ton botex for sale. Like new. p m if interested
  6. That’s 8 Tom Botextrailer.with 560 crane, 2014 or 5 I think
  7. A friend of mine is selling very tidy 8ton , pto pump, brakes, steering drawbar. message me if interested .
  8. Not an expensive repair really. worth getting a pro mechanic or light engineering shop to do it for peace of mind
  9. Not sure about Uk but in Ireland construction regs apply to Arb works. any work at height (above or below ground) must have written risk assessment and have specific rescue plan for activity. im sure can be found on Hse website.
  10. This is not very helpful. a lot of terms/ jargon/abbreviations to take in when starting out. get trainer or experienced climber you know to make a list of basic kit. i still use Prussic on my short climbing rope for small to medium trees. on the aerial rescue issue: don’t forget you will have this responsibility when you hire a climber in
  11. Good to know. kids keep asking: what good do midges do?
  12. So can you jackknife trailer and chip into?
  13. Me too ! Re tractor chipper trailer. what chipper and any more pics ?
  14. When you are young 2 years seems like a long time. From his point of view, would need to be seeing some prospects of advancement. weve always found they expect more money when they start climbing, even through they’ve usually just gone from being a good groundie to being a novice climber. all different though. good staff are hard found and worth looking after
  15. I’d say probably drive alongside if possible, so easier to move along. worth studying chart that shows reach/outreach
  16. Got audited here a few years ago and revenue contested my travel expenses. had 3 work vehicles. Wasn’t running family car from business apart from fuel when used for pricing etc. they pretty much tried to bully us into owning up to loads of private use( that never happened) we stood our ground , eventually they accepted on condition that going forward we deduct 20% for private use. works fine because can now claim for everything. Crew cabs are flavor of the month over here at the moment for attention from law, vat etc
  17. I would totally agree. 15k will buy a good Jeep that will do 5 years with little depreciation. i would only borrow 30k or more for machinery that will earn me money, or towards land or buildings or home improvements. When the tough spells of work and cash flow hit, much better to be scraping towards worthwhile assets. bank interest and depreciation are real costs just like tax is. you rarely see accountants with brand new cars.
  18. Sounds cheap. There Must be a catch?
  19. He’s been on DoneDeal for a while now. You’d imagine someone would have had him checked out at this stage.
  20. Simple physics really. dead timber. Fibres have lost tensile strength. One side of hinge weaker than the other. Can go sideways?
  21. I’ve just sold my 328 tracked chipper and would agree with bigtreedon . Also at 2600kgs it’s a bit of a pig to tow. great for leylandi take downs and woody stuff and great for pulling over trees. for brash and bushy stuff we we’re finding TW230 better and more user friendly ( haven’t used first)
