  1. watch it with the liner thing I think you need a liner or the house insurance is invalid I may be wrong but building regs apply to log burners Liner/air vent/ hearth size It's crap isn't it If you're going ahead anyway- I like big- basically means you can chop bigger logs which is less work:thumbup1:
  2. I know exactly what you mean Even when you say- stuff this chasing around thing every year Still they change the wording on the policies and suddenly you find nfu only insure up to 6 metres- tree surgery!!!!! So you move and suddenly they want evidence of all certificates gained including H&S courses, risk assessments in place AND the price goes up- AND you've never had a claim Insurers just take the (p*ss) premiums regardless and if you haven't read the small print then -lookout Then you have to shop around the next year 'cos they've increased the premium by 20%= do the whole thing all over again. It was so much simpler 30 years ago
  3. So as an employer you have no choice Pay to train employees up or face the consequences Try to engender good relations and a happy workforce and maybee trained staff will stay and give you a chance to get the training money back I believe as an employee you are pretty well protected with all the duty of care stuff being laid at the employers feet. And you wonder why your boss is stressed out today:001_rolleyes:
  4. If I employed you I would put you through the training Must get employees to sign similar contracts like YOU do
  5. Just needs a bit more professionalism from everybody Testosterone males need not apply
  6. Hold on fellas Don't just use this to have a go at your employer He/She has got a hell of a situation Trying to keep you busy employed but all the time trying to confirm to updating legislation. It costs a fortune to a. pay for the ticket b. pay for you to have a doss 3-5 days getting the ticket Do you not understand the expense. At the end of the day YOU have the ticket and the employer has nothing. YOU can leave and seek employment elsewhere with a ticket that your current employer has paid for. If you are being disruptive then can't you see that your employer thinks you will not stay with the firm. Why should he pay for your ticket Doh It's hard running a business YOU have probably never done it so YOU don't understand. If you have done it and failed then don't start rocking the boat just because you've got a chip on your shoulder Them and us.... it's a 2 way street Rant over...For now:sneaky2:
  7. He first got pulled then they found the implement why did he get pulled if you don't mind me asking

  10. Heres a leaflet Think it makes it clearer chainsaw H&S.pdf
  11. It would appear according to my H&S mentor that you do in fact need (legally) the tickets appropriate to the work being undertaken. I'm waiting for the documents to be emailed to me and if I can will post on here
  12. I've heard this many times over the years- there must be some truth in it
  13. So.... None of us really know Blinking frustrating
  14. C'mon- be arsed:biggrin:
  15. obviously yes
  16. Depends who your customer is If it could be the tree' then you've one approach -I know what you're saying- how can a tree be your customer?- but lets just pretend the tree walks into your tree surgeons clinic and asks what you can do to help it- you probably say- go away theres nothing you need- you will grow & you will die(sometime) I usually can't help you live longer If it the user of the tree(owner- whatever that means) then your approach is determined by their attitude to the tree- and we've all experienced varying attitudes to trees. As a business then you suggest stuff that you can get paid for- Reports etc etc fell replant. The reason the tree is there is because the human wants it(usually) so they should be included in the equation. So- trees must be fiddled with
  17. So I'm not the only one who sees it like this:sneaky2:
  18. thats my experience
  19. My take on it is that the government likes to help young businesses and encourage competition. So having a £75k vat threshold gives new starts and one man bands a competitive edge in the domestic market where they will usually be learning to hone their trade. VAT kicks in when you want it to but has to at £75k You then are in a situation where you are developing and probably employing So vat isn't your only problem- H&S Risk stuff tickets paperwork etc. Then they dangle the carrot of Limited liability which is a weight off the shoulders of the business owner- although it comes at a cost (higher accountant fees and bank charges). Now once in this position there are tax advantages to be had- Pay yourself tax free £7k and take dividends especially as you are then probably in the 40% tax bracket. There are some other benefits. So to summarise- the whole thing is aimed at progressing your business. i.e, getting bigger - sometimes to the point of just having to do so
  20. conifer= cone bearing yew has berries I may be wrong and someone please correct me if I am but I've never viewed yew as coniferous Mind you a lot of folk would think yew was juniper so it would work on that level:001_smile:

  22. IMO you can't beat loads of air from below- makes a great blaze- then control the heat by adding more wood (or not) don't faff around with regulators etc
  23. So how does the american government pay for stuff Not on gasoline tax.. much anyway Not on income tax- warren buffet says he pays 17% and would like to pay more Not on welfare state There is I believe a sales tax though- quite a bit I seem to remember Not having a dig at USA as I love the place but just wondering BTW stihl saws arn't half the price in USA
