  1. just had a recent experience with them calling us about 7 times- not taking no for an answer Truth is there must be some out there who collude with them and force all our premiums up And then we complain that our premiums are too high Vicious circle Bad makes bad
  2. This is the law- like it or not Blame the whiplash boys Including who phone up many times asking you to claim and encouraging you to lie to get a payout. You know who you are And if you have claimed then shame on you have some integrity
  3. exactly what is enough Having seen aerial photos of this I can see it popping up pretty random and unexpected Sounds like the secret is immediate destruction I guess 100m is probably enough but requires 100% compliance This disease is a bad one and one that makes you wonder on the sense of monoculture of trees
  4. if boss ain't there take as many as you want:001_tt2:
  5. just remember you got to charge about 3 x their wage to make the whole thing work theres so many other costs that don't include government subisdy
  6. surely if this was the case they would have told you specifically about the castle ash being ok to fell. They would have said 'take down this row of ash and include the ash on the other side which although it's in the castle grounds has been OK'd for felling- here is the paperwork'
  7. I hate these wages questions I pay 2 guys £18000 and they don't even climb so please bear in mind worth not cost
  8. wikipedia says following Arboriculture is primarily focused on individual woody plants and trees maintained for permanent landscape and amenity purposes, usually in gardens, parks or other populated settings, by arborists, for the enjoyment, protection, and benefit of human beings. It is therefore related to, but distinct from agriculture, horticulture, urban forestry, forestry, dendrology, and silviculture. doesn't that say it all It must include branches of mycology+ P&D some production- although a lot of trees such as top fruit will be covered by field crop production all science has increasingly blurred edges I believe it would also include psychology and pretty obviously surveying
  9. I've had c/s boots last years so 4 months is a bit premature. Mind you I do feed them well
  10. repressed anger something/someone hurt you once go on SCREAM
  11. Keep your immune system working at optimum level. Loads of fruit/veg and as you get older use dietry supplements. Check the web/see your doctor for advice but personally I believe in home made veg soup. Also working outside seems to be good for staying bug free as does staying happy.
  12. I've always used cabstars though they are not the best off road Depends what you are going to be doing with it
  13. You can't include for tax/insurance/depreciation as these would cost you if the van was just left in their yard and you went in their truck So charge a mileage = 45pence per mile. It would cost them 30p a mile in their own truck. That way you've set a precedent for future use. What I'm saying is don't try to make money on this- you may lose a contact The 45pence is not taxed if you are an employee.
  14. I was always taught the countryside code Leave a gate as you find it. Sometimes they are supposed to be open. In fact leave the countryside as you find it within reason I think the RA does a great job dealing with the 'get off my land' brigade. Though obviously they attract a minority of people who love 'the fight'
  15. There are worse charts out there IMO it misses some species namely cedar which I find seasons quickly and is therefore useful. Also poplar will season quickly if left on its side. Criticising birch for burning fast then saying was it hazel is great as it burns fast. Make your mind up. People who know about fires get a bit conoisseur about wood. A mix is good and you can up and down the burn depending on what you put on. Good wood burners though make the whole thing a bit pointless as they burn anything especially wood wood. And do I really want to count how many times I have to get up and feed the fire of an evening. Sometimes the walk down the logpile is refreshing especially in the snow and gives you a chance to have an outside pee which is always best:001_smile:
  16. get welders gauntlets for brambly stuff
  17. throw this into it firm B would be charging more like £550 + VAT as they are claiming their input tax and so their ex vat price would be lower. A lot of the reasons for registration are that without becoming a cash trader you almost have no option as your turnover in tree work quickly rises over the registration limit.
  18. are you sure its not dead standing We come across it
  19. how did you value them- I mean is that e bay price or specialist bookshop price
  20. look at it this way the more you charge the more comission they get so it's not necessarily in their interest for you to be cheap cheap
  21. I reckon that axe swings both ways
  22. Love the bit about the swan That really sums up where I'm at most days- maybe not that frantic but definately the gofer
