  1. True what you're saying about leylandii People think you're being a smart arse if you keep correcting them. Peeing in the garden= OK so long as you find somewhere a bit private. Sorbus= starting to show his ignorance The way they talked/ acted/ = rogues Oil tipped on the bar- I'm guessing this wasn't vegetable oil so not too enviro spraying mineral oil all over customers garden If we can't criticise this attitude on here then what hope is there for this industry. I mean come on- flappy snaggy hi vis in the tree- it's only a bad thing.
  2. took mine back to fr jones and they changed sprocket back to old fashioned type new bearing and clutch spring. I'm not doing it again If it goes again it's no more mr nice guy. Trouble is its a good saw otherwise
  3. Never done it never will as I don't fancy the consequences. If you do it they keep quiet is my suggestion even to the mrs as word will get out and people get jealous
  4. Gollum may have it Are you using the correct file holder
  5. red diesel isn't just vat free It's a different level of duty- in fact probably duty free. You can get your vat back on petrol if vat registered. Obviously claim the net cost against your tax liability. So a litre of petrol becomes about 90pence rather than £1.40 I love filling up:001_tt2:
  6. If I didn't have free wood from tree work I'm not sure which way I would go. You will spend a lot of time chopping wood and sawing- neighbours will love you. National trust will have good info on wood burners as they seem to be moving over heating their stately piles this way. I've seen a great one set up in Scotney castle. Woodchip tipped into a hopper and fed by conveyor into the burner. Very professional set up.
  7. Someone very similar to them park up on the main road from hythe to dymchurch opposite the Hythe ranges. There is a similar subset in Folkestone too Similar crowd always seen wearing hi vis Only thing this similar crowd are missing is motorway maintenance on the back of their vehicles. Even worse- one of my customers a few years ago - her husband died and similar types dropped in on her and said he had asked them to do some tree work in the garden- they butchered a few trees and left all arisings demanded money before they cleared up. I think they read obituaries. These similar types are scum but have to say 'why don't people see through them' Funny how the perfect gentleman Walter suddenly turned nasty when confronted. Tree specialists, gutters cleaned, plastic fascias- this is how they sell themselves - all the things that old folk find hard to do- when will people learn. 5 blokes to do a 2 man job- confuses the customer who can't work out their hourly rate. Don't have a problem with peeing in the pot though- when you gotta go you gotta go. Wonder if they change their name to Arboricultural specialist now.
  8. you've got to love arbtalk I've been calling it a beadle for years since I misheard it called that You have made my education more complete:001_smile:
  9. Agreed peeler bar driven in and waggled around helps start the hole- maybe then pour water down the hole But as was pointed out- be very very careful with the driver as too much enthusiasm and its out above the post and someone gets hurt.
  10. believe me plagiarism is rife:001_smile: I was feeling generous:thumbup1:
  11. Organised felling is about making the job easier for the guys on the saws. Systems of work and all that Answer to no. 2 is sectional dismantle using crane or climber or cherry picker Anyone got any more to add Surely theres no need for pages of waffle
  12. 200t's going to go for more on e bay as there are people out there who have no licence who want one and can't buy from shops=simples
  13. biggest you can get is a pain (heavy on your back)when you are using it during the summer just blowing grass clippings. wet autumn leaves- now thats a different story as is arb waste where you really need power
  14. exemption and costs nothing except you get on their register and then they pester you
  15. fasciated foxglove foto=fantastic foto find
  16. stick the cans in the back of your van and they don't say a word If you overfill though you are driving in a fug of fumes which makes you feel a bit off. tesco don't seem to care if they don't see the cans. we regularly fill 8 or more this way plus fill up the ride on by climbing on the back of the truck What a messed up system
  17. remember the rugby club accident so beware Fine to burn on site if you ignore regs and insurance issues but you working in smoke which is tyring at the very least can't understand why a 3ft ditch makes chipper access difficult would have thought a couple of ramps= problem solved
  18. what do you want to use the leaf blower for And dont say- for blowing leaves.
  19. Sometimes I think these legislators have nothing better to do. Personally I prefer the tranparent cans as you can see whether you have put 2 stroke oil in the fuel. The whole situation is a bit confused- divide and rule:confused1:
  20. my auto immune attacked my red blood cells funny how the body works
  21. Sorry That was a very detailed post and I missed it completely
  22. BTW 40 hours maximum- applies to everyone on the firm unless they specifically ask for more hours.
  23. This is a good thread Surprised how many hours some of you work I'm sure there is no one answer though if you feel that work is taking control then something has to be done about it and there are some good pointers on here for dealing with the problem. Personally I've always thought it a bit of a macho brag when people work exceeding long hours. You only destroy yourself and those around you. The big problem for small businesses is that not every job is a cherry pick. Paul Jenks has it spot on with the relationship thing IMO Try to get into your customers head and build a trust relationship.
  24. I would recommend you get two a smaller 23 kawasaki or similar for lawns straight stem D handle so you can turn it upside down a fs400 for brambles- stihl with cowhorns
  25. Have to say this is a more stimulating debate than the christian one. I had a christian upbringing but lapsed a long time ago and see it now for what it is. Attended Greenbelt once about 1982 and just came away with a feeling that they were 5 years behind what the real world was up to. All a bit boring and faith driven. We hear that there was great wisdom and foresight in old beliefs pagan/ mayan but the reality is we don't know everything and so can not have definitive answers. Usually we do what suits us best. Can't beat nature in all its beauty though
