  1. I insist everyone wears mankinis
  2. I would ask How much do the customers want the tree Then decide If they love it then it would be worth waiting and reassessing. If they don't care for it then I suspect they would get someone else to fell it if you wouldn't. Let's face it- fell now= £4-500 bill depending on who keeps the wood+ distance to road etc etc Inspect+ wait + reduce with the possibility of a future fell with associated greenhouse/fence under = guess £1000 minimum Give them the facts and let them decide the way forward-
  3. everyone talks about legal route Well I have had neighbours of customers threaten this when we have cut overhanging branches. For most people I would have thought it's not worth the money/grief Anyway does anyone want that senario hanging over them for months- look at the hedge neighbour issues. Sometimes attached is a HUGE legal bill
  4. all this talk of weight and volume. Surely years seasoned must come into the equation too Isn't volume the best (most accurate) method taking into account air spaces. Would it then be best to give a price for m3 of cord and a small premium based on years stored- means you could sell it quicker. Or is cord always sold fresh felled. Sorry- not my subject but always wondered Then again if its say oak then wouldn't a m3 be worth more than say a m3 of alder Complicated
  5. First what I would call proper contract was weeding a 5 acre strawberry field by hand. Got £100 Needed help from 5 mates variously and the farmers tractor and trailer. Got bored so we took the tractor down the pub. The job took about 4 days and we each got about nothing bar a sun tan and there was a river nearby we used to swim in after work. The farmer was into selling windsurfers so he let us use one for the rest of the summer. I think he knew he had got a good deal. Still make stupid mistakes on pricing but never so bad as that. Needless to say self employment proper didn't happen till a few years later.
  6. Thats the cuel bit (worldwide)
  7. something wrong with me? i don't see that as cruel:thumbup:
  8. yellow ford escourt van about 12 years old McCulloch chainsaw/ no name mower and a strimmer that could be changed into a hedge cutter- Oh and a rake Enjoyed it but boy did I work some stupid long hours in the summer
  9. same here but keep pressing 2 keys at once only for a short period
  10. you've described exactly some guys I have come across. They leave everyone around them feeling frustrated and don't get asked back
  11. And yet you went on to get a Phd. Was this the advent of computers that helped I much prefer to type than write though I know someone who is completely the opposite- needless to say he has very artistic handwriting.
  12. let it ride You're your own best advert You could invite the editor over to your yard to show how much work goes into split logs- then suggest he gives you a months advertising- no threats Let the grapevine make this guy look like the self publicist he is. Continue bashing out good loads of quality wood. Lets face it- almost no one knows how hard it is to cut a cube of logs. The guy is probably retired and is wondering how he is going to keep warm once he is unable to chop wood.
  13. you're now officially Bart:biggrin:
  14. For graphologists Capital writing is very interesting most ransom notes are written in capitals It's used as a way of hiding your real character sorry
  15. yup copper ease is the solution plus not doing a blade change when you are too stressed/tired plenty of time to do it properly
  16. That was exactly my thought on seeing the wheel marks I guess so long as the soil was reasonably dry then a quick fork over (aeration)and the jobs a good un. What about in the wet. Customer going to complain surely
  17. hold the saw level:001_tt2:
  18. we are in tenterden town centre every week

  19. In Greece Spain and Portugal they have about 14 bank holidays a year compared to our 8 Funny how it's those countries that are suffering the most with the recession. I do think we would leap forward as a nation if we followed the French attitude to life. Coupled with a bit more respect for each other would mean an end to all the bull We've just got to find a way round this- People just got to be made responsible for their own actions without signing a bit of paper every step of the journey.
  20. I have Reynauds Have never had fingers curled up like that though. Mainly tingling and hands turning into blocks of uselessness. Best get him to go to a doctor
  21. OK Great that you discovered this thread I was advised it was a good idea to get registered to stay in with HO's and started the process. Not realising the complexity- as Peter says- ethnic checks truth and openness etc etc the list seemed endless. I'm sure it wasn't too onerous and maybe I should have delegated it to a more office mentality type. (wife) So' we got busy and despite your regular e mails warning that it would lapse just lost the impetus. A phone call guiding me through the process from where I got distracted might have worked better if that helps you make a decision going forward. I'm trying again but now am waiting for my log on details to be sent so I can do it online. I've got 1 week Now I'm worried when you say there is ongoing maintenance to keep up to date. Will I find time?
  22. makes me laugh really Perhaps a sliding scale
  23. Just do it Don't worry about neatness too much - just be relaxed If they are profiling you from your handwriting then the scruffiness won't hide your true character anyway. I've done a brief day taster session on this and it's very revealing. Don't forget- your doctor is likely very intelligent and his writing is poor so theres hope.
  24. sounds like its CHAS then but their logo sucks Damn- I know I really need to do both
  25. that is crap (as in a bummer) can you publish his face on here?
