  1. Glad you sorted that out Mark I really hate it though- hope it didn't get gold:001_rolleyes:
  2. You reminded me- I meant to build a pizza oven- can't beat them that way. Always seem to have olive wood for fuel when you encounter them. Thats not going to happen here. Maybe poplar:biggrin:
  3. Spot on:thumbup: Theres a lot to growing vegetables- much more than can be explained in a quick post. Scruffy veg gardens are not necessarily bad gardens. They are allowing more eco stuff. Not for your military types though!! By the way carrots like sandy soil and don't manure as you'll cause forking.
  4. you don't have to remove them from the bags- they are usually biodegradable and the damage from removing them outweighs the other issues. 12inches buried not so good though there will be settlement and is this the distance from the top of the soil to the bag or is it the distance to where they were grown in the nursery- you can check that by noting the change in bark colour. There may be other reasons. I'm sure the council know what they are doing.
  5. TORDON 22K | Control of Nettles & Thistles in Turf | Amenity Land Solutions that should help This is my first time adding stuff so fingers crossed:001_rolleyes:

My biggest problem is keeping out of the sun and keeping infection free Good hand hygiene- think about that in our line of work!!!!
  14. In my opinion a VAT reduction back to 17.5% would be the perfect scenario. Would make people feel good:thumbup1:
  15. Remember Election round the corner Tories will pump money into the economy to make us all think how good they are so they get re elected Everyone will start feeling richer and away we go Getting the economy moving will help with the deficit (more people in work paying more taxes)- hopefully they pump money into proper work not counting beans C'mon guys stop being defeatest- It's too easy to doom and gloom- sometimes I think this is the human condition:thumbdown: Diesels coming down- paid £1.32 last week:thumbup: suns shining olympic golds round the corner can't promise england do well in the euros though- thats a bridge too far
  16. Ask him if he wants a proper job or a cheap job
  17. Update Have today gone for pre chemo chat and it appears I have been put on a trial for a new chemical Ga101 or something like that- Early results have been very good with less side effects and a more specific approach. Thursday it starts I am extremely positive now having talked this through with various people who have been there and we are telling everyone. Talking to the trials nurse it appears theres a totally different approach going on in medicine for these problems as they are getting close to identifying the gene which is responsible for the body going wrong. Now when they do this we're going to see massive improvements in cancer medicine. Bring it on. Big up to those on here who offered a chat to help me through this-
  18. I maintain no one predicted it- exact date to start Everyone since 2003 had been moaning that this couldn't go on and it did and a lot of us believed that it could. The new paradigm Easy to say in hindsight that we were all fools but everyone got caught up in it. The Icelandic banks going tits up was I seem to remember the start of it and from then on it gathered steam. If predictions had been made then there were some big institutions out there who weren't listening Kent county council included (£50million invested in Iceland) What I am saying is that we expect the good times to end but are surprised when they do We also expect the recessionary times to continue and are surprised by their end There are obviously economic indicators of boom and bust but government interferrence disguises them often for political reasons. Lets say this- will the current recession peter out in the build up to the next election Hmmmm Just heard on the radio that Agriculture and horticulture industries are booming 25% increase year on year - there you go.
  19. How can anyone predict No one predicted this recession and no one knows when we recover Just one day you'll realise you've been very busy for a while and suddenly it's over. If you're lucky you'll realise this and will have raised prices to reduce demand/workload and - here we go again. Already firms are pulling the plug on China and bringing manufacturing home It just needed above average inflation in China and a bit of wage suppression here. We're now in a worldwide economy- adapt and survive. Whilst there has been a glut of firms in treework recently- some of these will fall by the wayside once they struggle for the money they thought was there and then as work picks up and customers start spending on trees that have been neglected for 5 years .................... you'll be glad you stuck with it.
  20. Skyhook- I gotta go but I'm sure what you have is just perfect for you now but you maybe need to think forward and develop the tools for managing two teams. If not- then carry on as you are and in 5 years you will reconsider this position. Feel free to think I'm a patronising git but one day faced with the alternative of (god knows what) you will value these skills. You have the knowledge/experience/contacts and you can't just throw these away. Hold on- just remembered you have a lad getting into this business so probably this will not apply to you.
  21. You will though one day not be able to climb and this is your backup plan and still be involved in treework which we all know is the best job in the world
  22. You must have been p****d off I understand this But if you hadn't been tied up on your own job with your own frustrations/stresses you would have found them less likely to have tried it on. Plus you would have been cooler about the situation I know exactly what you are saying- I too can work twice as hard and efficient as anyone I employ but they really don't want me to prove this constantly
  23. I'm loving seasoned softwood at the moment as I've a lot of unseasoned oak and it's great for starting the fire- you will find someone who values it similarly
  24. Big mistake- this is not usually the case You need to run two teams with you JUST doing quotes/paperwork A team of two is a complicated partnership= resentment from your groundie+ you disappearing from jobs to quote at the wrong time because you have set up an appointment+ I've seen it so many times and it often ends in tears. How many groundies do you get through running a two man team?
  25. Aah so do you price in this evening work at overtime rates or for free because it does eat into your 'me' time I remember the days
