  1. We run hedge cutters on extender stihl but beware as if cutting through thicker stuff you run the risk of twisting the drive shaft- PITA. It is probably worth the risk/expense though as it saves such a lot of time and ladder work
  2. Will people really work for free!! I know it's not really free as it's a shot in the dark for you but will they work without payment? Please let us know how you get on and whether if you get replies you will be doing this kind service again.
  3. Worked all day- bit of very light rain am. in Whitstable Bright sunshine in Folkestone all afternoon- think we just missed some heavy rain though
  4. started 30 years ago with a grant of £50 from my then girlfriend Good job she didn't take share options. Work hard and seriously long hours then reap the rewards- you might think- actually still work 5 days a week though the meaning of the word 'work' has changed somewhat over the years.
  5. Liking the ash How do you go about seasoning a lump of wood ready to work. It must be bad if it cracks after working on it.
  6. Google traffic law by night and still end up confused Best way to understand the law is to get done:001_smile: Still got paper licence hehe- rebel
  7. I speak as I find- sometimes pleasantly surprised
  8. It's called politeness and is in short supply with youngsters- they don't realise they are doing it- obviously haven't been taught by their parents properly. Their loss- give the job to an older more polite person. Goes with texting that they slept in etc. I won't have it:thumbdown:
  9. Go to the local library and see if they have a chart of the local soil types. Ours is very detailed and varied Other than that.....££££££
  10. all cordless 18v Dewalt The impact wrench is good for big screws but haven't tried it with bolts yet Beauty of Dewalt is they cover just about everything so we don't have to have lots of different chargers /batteries:thumbup1:
  11. You should live down south mate Beautiful sunny day- not too hot/ not too cold- in fact just perfect for work really. Shame I'm stuck doing paperwork on the laptop. When will they make one that you can use outside- screens just dont work well.
  12. Council £50 -me £500:001_smile:
  13. £127 you can't be serious!! Seen it on ebay USA for $50 but shipping not possible. Looks like i'll have to give it a miss unless anyones got any better price suggestions that is. Shame as all the reviews are glowing
  14. Aaaagh Casoron and embargo I bought loads when able but they soon ran out. Pistol is good though- not sure on mares tail yet
  15. turnover divided by 230 should do it provided you haven't used lots of materials. I'm sure the insurance company understands that you need to be compensated loss of income to the business but don't expect too much as you could have hired a truck for the 2 days and still been earning.
  16. I'll have to treat myself- if only for the lightness Up to now I've been happy to throw the maul at everything except kindling but I guess its quite a heavy throw and maybe my back would appreciate a rest
  17. I had a member of staff nicking 1 large strimmer hedge cutter then he went self employed needless to say I didn't give him any work though he begged for it. Revenge is sweet
  18. Have to say damage to houses from conifers round here is fairly common Many houses built in the 30's have only 6inch foundations often only 6-12 inches down. Plus lots of shrinkable clay. I've seen two houses (built in the 70's) about 100ft apart both damaged by conifers - one was a large macrocarpa and the other a much smaller Lawson- both now underpinned and conifers removed. Check your soil. Our road had no history of subsidence until someone let a small ash develop one dry summer- resulting in a subsided bay.
  19. Interesting thread I have stuck with a stilh splitting maul for some time now always dubious of new fangledness. Does the Fiskars really deal with knotty wood and twisted stuff. Saw a video on You Tube and the guy seemed to be struggling with the x27 to get through a big bit of wood. The head kept getting stuck in the soft wood. Probably his technique. The vipuries axe- just looks awkward although effective on birch (finnish standard wood) does it work on more awkward stuff/ Has anyone here abandoned their splitting maul for these new axes?
  20. putting the French thing aside though The availability of breathalizers and how this relates to work situations. Would you or should you ask a workmate to use one if you suspect them of being over the limit.
  21. Don't forget the sandwich wrappers+ bannana skins classified as waste I'm afraid:001_smile:
  22. thats exactly what I thought How stupid!! Just as it's cynical that the french cops set up radar traps to catch us racing for the ferry I thought UK law was a bit picky but the French seem to have trumped us:biggrin:
  23. So the frenchies are requiring us to travel with 2 breathalizers so we can check ourselves should the need arise. So- suspect you are over- use one to check and low and behold only one left- 11 euro fine (£10 quid) So you need three?- = overkill possibly Should I ask a driver at work to blow in the bag if I suspect him of being over the limit. Is this an imposition( rudeness) too far or do we all get used to these erosions. Lets face it we've all worked with lads over the limit especially Monday morning. It might bring it home to them how they are behaving.
