  1. Rust if Junipers nearby would be my thoughts
  2. I watched it all the way through Did he take out the utility line near the end?
  3. Interesting to know whether it is possible to increase efficiency of solar panels
  4. It's got to be best price overall though I wouldn't go back to a business that gave me grief over in guarantee repairs.
  5. Vehicle wise For any job not involving much rubbish away or chipping away then a vivaro is a good choice- you can get 600 miles on a tankful- £100 They go like a rocket for long runs though fuel is not so good Great security though only 3 up front so not so good as a family car. When you are starting out- anything that can store your gear is a good move as you can then drive straight home after a days work rather than dropping off tools at your base. Grass left in the van makes the mornings a bit sweet though and you tend to get acquainted with plenty of spiders who have done the night shift in your cab:001_smile:
  6. I've never tried that but I have to say getting them all to look the same would be my downfall I'm sure. Don't worry too much with negative posters- could be trolls
  7. This is the truth The wind loading on a conifer is substantial and for you to climb it on a still day - your weight would add next to nothing to previous storms- depends on your weight As you know a lot of it is in your head I guess the rope was the worry- what if it had broken- but then wouldn't it have broken in a big blow?
  8. Interesting that montana is being called 'mile a minute' I know that name for Russian Vine -Polygonum Sorry- derail How these cases come to court is beyond me- people don't understand the costs of court though in this case they said the Taxpayer paid- thats you and me- how stupid.
  9. England is not much better I would have thought What does basic chainsaw cost=crosscutting Here it's around £400
  10. Trying to identify the tree- was it Wellingtonia?
  11. You all know what some neighbours are like Especially old folk wanting everything cut to the boundary. Maybe the person who put the tree in needs a lambasting Personally I would hate looking at a butchered tree like that even though it being intact would have shaded my garden. They probably hoping the owner will now fell!! Lets face it some people use trees to bully neighbours- shock horror- but it does happen especially if they are on the sunny side
  12. You need a new milometer/odometer whatever they're called:001_smile:
  13. Seen this before but had to watch again It still makes me feel... well yuno..jelly belly How many days during the year can they do that without wind issues
  14. Great video everyone should watch and digest
  15. I don't know what but I suspect they gather CO2 % evidence from old ice and growth from fossil wood and somehow relate the two. Have to say Tony- going off grid isn't going to help if the problem is caused by something else. We need to get rich/ get technical and get able which isn't going to happen if mankind goes down that route. That isn't to say we shouldn't recycle etc- thats so patently a good idea Also local food usually tastes better- look at tomatoes But do you really want to give up pineapples/bananas/mangoes/avacado/dates/figs/the list goes on. Lets face it you will need to go vegan. Humans want choice- they want interest. They may want to holiday in UK for a year because they think they have to because of the recession but ultimately they want the experience of other cultures and climates- snowboarding in Canada etc etc. Canoe down the Amazon- the list goes on and the more we do of these things the more of these experiences we feel we need just to be happy. Meanwhile you are stuck in your 50 sq. mile world- you won't be pissed off will you? You are racing away in your head at the moment and that is stimulation enough but will it last. I'm not attacking you but questioning whether it will really make you happy. Oh the dilemma of the tree hugger..........
  16. I'm now thinking I'm way off with birch- didn't look hard enough:001_smile:
  17. Why not just use Roundup and cap with a slice of trunk?
  18. No wonder we've got this potential problem. Don't know what to do so...do nothing.. or worse believe there is no problem. All's fine You know what you have to do Believe in the capitalist system because it ain't going away. Believe in technology and there you have the answer. Simples Humans arn't going to move to the stars if you panic at every crossroads. ......sit back and wait for dreamer criticism.
  19. Amazing People here live in a democracy and they don't believe in the power of it. It may not be instant- it may not be perfect but things do change. OK greed doesn't change and the basic human condition remains constant ish but If everyone shrugs there shoulders and says what can I do then theres no hope. Like I say Nuclear armageddon was avoided and believe you me that was a serious concern mid to late 70's. I mean people were really worried about it. Why can't we control CO2 -it's only a gas I think you're taking the easy option and saying 'poor me-theres nothing I can do so I won't do anything' Maybe what we learn along the way about controlling our atmosphere will come in useful when Earth has the next extinction event. Keep the faith
  20. Massive pressure for change from the people- twists politicians arms no end They tend to look at what their voters want and change their policies to suit. You'd be surprised how public opinion works:biggrin:
  21. Strikes me posters are just coming out with either stuff they have heard/ believe/ been told. No real facts. It's not having a problem that matters. Its having the resolve to deal with it. Nuclear armageddon was avoided because people cared- remember greenham CND Glastonbury etc- was it SALT talks early 80's that put an end to the race and then obviously the fall of the iron curtain. If we can control our environment (preferably above freezing) we will survive. If we can't then it's goodbye. It's likely rich nations will survive best as they will be able to afford resources or have the weapons to get them. So there you go- as a nation we need to be rich- as a planet we need to think= Sorted
  22. It's highly likely that increasing carbon will lead to global warming in the short term. In the long term it's likely that the planet will change and balance will resume. At what level that balance who knows- the Earth has been through a fair few changes (atmospheric) in its brief history and I'm damn sure doesn't give a hoot about us or indeed any other life kicking around on her surface. We need to understand how she reacts to all scenarios so that we are prepared to change or indeed prepared to step in and alter the atmosphere to suit us. I'm sure we will sus it and probably make a few mistakes along the way. We need prophets of doom to shake up our complacency and make us better prepared. Doesn't mean they are right but it doesn't mean they are wrong either so it's up to us to take stock.
