Well- we've had the chat= no more compo Stand firm /use a dust sheet and if it's wet and the dust is sticking- well just apologise and ask for a bucket. If a complaint goes up the chain then we respond accordingly. It's odd though- these issues have only happened on housing association sites. Do chancers congregate in these places.

I've been on site where the chipper tube has moved. It was spraying all over the neighbours car. Had been doing it for a while Quick blow and no one knew- whew

lovin the diplomacy:001_smile: the problem is the housing associations- if we don't satisfy the clients than an e mail complaint is sent off and that goes through the whole corporate structure. Thats the way they roll. Their clients= tennants are too well aware of this too. I guess I'm not there so am not able to diffuse the issue. I need to get my tree team leader to get diplomatic. No. I'm going to get this sorted for once and all. Dust sheets and supervisor responsibility. Heres hoping this one is finally put to bed. I think I've been soft. Silky - you've worked in central London with no real issues. That says it all.

Sorry Albedo- I'm usually sending others out but sometimes I'm on site- whats the difference? I guess the question is. Would the compensation outweigh the saving not using sheets /time spent finding owners. That would be the business equation. If thats the case then I would be best to just carry on paying compensation. I'd rather personally though avoid the problem. I favour the dust sheet solution. Great Arbtalk management solution. I hope

we shut down a mobile phone mast- they have smoke detectors and shut down if there is a fire for some reason. They restarted it and then we did it again. Vodaphone didn't like us after that.

Thats the thing with this job- you've got to be switched on and stay switched on all day even when you're knackered. Switch off and something goes wrong. The dust on the car is just one small thing in a long line of potential problems. Usually starts with loading up the right kit- now to include dust sheets!!!

Exactly what I'm thinking now. Usual thing though. You look at a tree and in the rush don't really appreciate the empty car park which when the lads turn up to do the job happens to be full.

Right. Top tip. I'm going to get a couple and keep them with us for this purpose. Being cotton I guess they can't claim any damage caused by the sheet.

Agreed- we generally get them moved but on some sites theres 10 cars and 80 flats. It becomes a major operation getting them moved and the preferred method is do the job then blow the dust off the cars. I like the idea of dust sheets though- it makes it look like you are trying to prevent a problem. What do you use. Decorators cotton or nylon tarpaulins.

This has got to have happened to everyone on arbtalk. Job going fine then someone kicks off about dust on their recently polished auto. Goes something like this You idiots have ruined my car, it's just been valetted and it's now covered in sap which has damaged my paintwork. OK mate calm down- how much was the valet. Blah blah- well tell you what- heres the cash - would you draw a line under this issue - Err- OK then cheers mate. I've done it twice now just to keep the peace and prevent complaints going upwards. I'm thinking next time to take a different approach. Any ideas? Any offerings for conflict resolution that would keep both parties happy. Or is it just a case of telling them to back off with enough determination they know they're getting nowhere.

Surely use common sense. No point saying it's OK to burn 10 tonnes when the smoke is blowing across a major road. Have to say it really p's me off when people burn when the weather is good - high pressure, no wind, green wood, no bonfire skills. But I do realise that some people get off on this sort of behaviour

lets face it you can chase money forever and you still die in the end. If you're lucky you end up doing what makes you happy. If that makes you rich then bingo I don't get this destiny thing though. If that was the case then why try to get anywhere/to change anything. That is a recipe for doing nothing and waiting for your destiny to find you. I like to believe you/your parents shape your destiny- your personality/upbringing/experiences good and bad cause you to go one way or another at every turn. It's this combination that makes you end up where you are.

What they don't realise is that if they put the tax rate up higher the tax returns will fall even more:sneaky2: The worst thing for the country was increasing the VAT rate to 20% So many people now think they can bypass this. 17.5% didn't seem to matter so much. So come on HMG put the rate up to 100% and see your returns fall to zero. Thats government making everyone criminals.

I have to say for Aldi to be selling these cheap chainsaws is a bit irresponsible. Look at the guy who got fined for using one on a ladder(idiot). How are they going to stop wasted A&E time without some sort of restriction. Aldi on the other hand are ONLY thinking about profit. We think- what harm can it do- but chainsaws are serious dangerous and every accident puts more restriction pressure on us who need them as a working tool. Someone on here said they asked H&S what percentage of chainsaw accidents were caused by professionals and H&S said they didn't keep separate records. I don't know how true that is but the last thing we want is full chainsaw protection suits:thumbdown::thumbdown:
