  1. Yes- I appreciate the viscocity thing First number is the number of minutes to go through a filter hot the second is how long cold. Well thats as I understand it My issue was with having so many options for different viscocities with different machines. We have 2 Stiga mowers petrol 25hp vangard engines Micro JCB Timberwolf chipper 150mm Kubota diesel engine. Various small petrol mowers from Honda/hayter/stihl all less than 6hp Small generator Various other small stuff but the main ones are above. It would be great to just use one oil for all.(tonguetwister) I guess its hard to specify an oil for temps from -10 to +35 (cold start) and a mid range would seem to cover all bases.

    We will be doing the work next week but I can PM you exact details nearer the day.

    We are finding at the moment that if you leave the chip in a pile for a week or so it is going nice and brown. Like I say about 3 cabstar loads which is about 10-12cu.m. should cover a good area. There will be a drink in it for you Rich as our nearest tip is a few miles away and it will save time and fuel. But obviously first things first- depends whether she wants it. It's mainly sycamore so safe for horses.

  9. Nice domestic kit but I can't see that being any good on wet leaves on grass plus twigs. Open to new ideas but it just looks too unpowerful.

  11. Trouble with asking the customer for power- we have had a customer accuse us of causing a £100 spike in her bill. Just can't work some people out. I'd love to find a cordless blower that was better than a petrol. It would be great. Just can't believe it would be ready power when you need it after a big fell in the street. I know stihl have developed cordless hedge cutters/strimmers so maybe next.

  14. Before the age of H&S etc we did a leaning ash branch over a road- nice quite road so I thought I'd just drop it in the road-.... just as a double decker came round the corner. Missed the front by about a metre. Gulp.

  16. Ty- I think you're getting too complicated. Concentrate on what you do best and what is most profitable and you can't go wrong really. Asking about turnover to UK based business is 2 questions. Do you want to get VAT registered - if not then I guess turnover(declared ) will be below the VAT threshold. Dooable if you don't need a good profit on your books. If you have to get registered because you run 2 teams or due to the customers you have (mainly commercial) then I guess it's over £100K. I think the way you are trying to tie down prices doesn't work too well- well not for me. There's an element of business that requires seat of your pants decisions and these can sometimes be the most profitable. I guess in France the case is entirely different. BTW 260 working days per year in UK Usually get about 220 with bad weather and holidays. Holidays including bank holidays means for every 8.5 days worked the typical Brit gets a day off. Scary ain't it if you have to allow for that in your costs. Working overtime at 1.5x wage doesn't make up for it. Theres loads more but I hope this helps.

Many manufacturers are moving production back to the UK now as they have more control on whats going on and our workers are realising they have to get involved to make the company successful not just sit back and take the benefits. The 70's was the roots of our decline but as with everything, it's cyclical.

  20. As has been mentioned before. Should this guy have a chainsaw accident it will be added to the statistics HSE hold and would this lead to more restrictions on us. I hope not. If it did then surely the right thing to do would be to suggest to him the right course of action. I guess most of us wouldn't for fear of an argument. What then- video and publish on You Tube or send to HSE.

  22. Interesting thought but I think kids learn by example and if their example is a life on the scrounge then what hope. I guess one or two may rebel though. Not only that but do they really have a hard upbringing when mum is getting £26K+ per year. Free health care etc etc. Have you any shining examples?

  24. You're spot on Paul Trouble is most people just hold their hand up, wail and do nothing. Just start with the easy things and move onto the more troublesome. We find risk assessments on site the hardest as we just want to get on once on site. Just need to have a 5 min talk through and an easy form to fill in- tick boxes and minimal writing. We're getting there. Library of risk assessments for sites and tools back at the unit and dynamic assessments on site. Getting 'everyone' on board is not always easy as most firms will have at least one employee or subbie who just doesn't want to get the message. I am told it is a disciplinary but don't want to get too heavy. Bit of thinking to do on this to encourage all!! Any ideas?

    Had just got out of chemo- thats it for 4 weeks. Getting to know the nurses well now and have to say they do a great job. Always cheerful.
