  1. Kill it then paint it pink Should get in the papers:001_smile:
  2. That is big- I assume the 10ft is to allow a floor which would take out some of the height.
  3. I guess 2 maybe a little bit more. Whats the prize
  4. Have to say thats a nice reduction and I can see there was a lot of work in that. Hope your customer gave you a tip. Hamma- done one!!?
  5. that doesn't count You've just got to get that phone and launch it You know you want to.
  6. I was going to take part but that part of me that thought I bet it's been done now took over and I didn't bother. I'd still be interested in the results Rob- we currently use oregon.
  7. Hi Paul (again)

Sorry the job I was thinking of is in Sevenoaks- even easier for you I guess

My number is 07779654350- I'll be up for another half hour- busy day tomorrow.

  8. Hi Paul

If you're still looking, we're working in the Tonbridge area for a few days plus soon in sidcup once I have checked out conservation area status. PM me, we'll agree a rate. We're not usually on site till 9ish and usually finish around 3.30 latest so the lads can get back to Folkestone. The work is varied but you would be climbing. Mind you I guess your fitness levels are soaring. I offer this work as our usual climber has landed a pretty much full time position although on a freelance basis in Brighton and is now not available in time. PM me and we can take it from there.

  9. Exactly what happened to me so I just got fed up with it and have never been asked. Mind you we don't often work on building sites. I like the ones with easy going foremen/ site supervisors. Agree- questions are for the stupid
  10. 140mg of MDMA and they can't remember how hard they worked
  11. I get that totally Trouble is if I start talking like that to the people holding the purse strings they will simply say. Whats the cheapest option here? It's social housing by the way. I doubt they will want to fund my professional development. I guess from the way the tree is reacting it;s been infected for some time. Crown growth is fairly robust. I wish this tree was in a wood then I could experiment more but with the targets I couldn't live with myself if it did suddenly fail. Someone is likely to be hurt.
  12. I'd love to give this a go but I guess the cost would be high and may still indicate that the tree has to be felled. Also I know some of the residents in the flats would like the tree removed. Fairly serious light issues. Plus even if airspading revealed that the root decay was minimal, how often would this need to be done in the future? More cost issues. Could the meripilus quickly begin attacking. Would it be encouraged following disturbance?
  13. OK- I know this isn't specifically a Merip thread but heres a beech and I think I have to pronounce death sentence on it due to the close by targets- road and flats. Does anyone have any other suggestions. Heres hoping the photos publish as it's the first time for me.
  14. Glad I'm not the only one who avoids paperwork. How can you make it easier? My problem is the quicker I do a quote the less money I make profit. I tend to think the job will be quicker than it is. This often happens when I quote on site so I try to avoid that. So I wait and wait and eventually get round to it. Put in the right price and get the job. Jobs need thinking time. I'm not convinced apps and stuff really help. I certainly wouldn't want to be doing e mails etc during my lunch break and nor would whoever I was working with. Lunch break is called that for a reason.
  15. I'm falling behind. We take cash - rarely Cheques- sometimes BACS- very often I think its 40pence per transaction Why would you want to increase your costs so much? Yes I know it looks cool. 3.5% on a thousand pound job is £35
  16. Thats amazing such a short fence can keep mr fox out. We had them climb a 6ft fence no problem. I assume they get a zap on the nose and then just stay away.
  17. I'd buy your £80 one. I have been toying with this idea for some time but never got round to it. Unfortunately some of the trees we have recently felled were absolutely riddled with nails/ staples and have cost twice that in wasted time and chains.
  18. I see you point but we have several machines that are identical- pole cutters/ blowers / and often there is one in the workshop bin being canibalised to repair the others. The problem is often that it is the same thing that goes wrong. The attachment area is more important. We have about 8 hedge cutter heads and they will fit all our pole cutters so if one breaks or needs sharpening then there is another ready to go (or should be). Plus the chainsaw heads fit all machines. It's a no brainer really. Of course then I go and buy an Echo because someone on here said it was good but when something on that breaks it's out of action and parts are the other side of Canterbury or America. Plus it's a bit feeble. It really does pay to stick with a brand for this reason.
  19. This is so true I have never said I prefer one over the other as a brand. Our 261 as a machine has been a heap of crap since almost day one. It's now overheating. Used to use husky but have a local stihl source where I get 20% off and that is powerful. Having said that stihl have last year increased prices by a big % so I'm not sure how they compare anymore. The best thing about sticking with one brand is the interchangeability of parts and attachments.
  20. I feel I've no option but to fell. There was recently a cedar branch fail close by here that killed someone. My feelings everytime I passed the tree were that it was an accident waiting to happen. It had an old folks home built just behind it and the dead person had been sitting on a bench enjoying the view. The tree is now felled. I guess it's better to fell rather than risk it. It's almost certainly meripilus- I've photos of fruiting on my camera and I'll put them on here when I can work out how to.
  21. Get big- I mean big new bags- polythene tree root bags= 1.2m Saves chipping paintwork and they are clean and not too long when full to make changing direction through doors a problem. If you are too greedy bringing big stuff through unprotected you will damage something. Slow and steady. We also often have one dedicated interior 'dragger' on big jobs- can wear carpet slippers:001_smile:
  22. Thats worrying- I'm looking at a large beech which I believe has Meripilus. Lots of fruiting around the roots. Two targets busy road and flats. It is though growing healthily- no dead wood so I'm reluctant to pronounce death sentence on it. I'm interested how healthy was the new growth on this one that fell.
