  1. I'll have no problem keeping warm/ cooking. Food though- we'd run out in about a week
  2. We know this is all probably true but..... we have all been bought by the big Co's and can see no other way. Should our own farmers sell off their land to smallholders to keep the genetic diversity. I don't see this happening so how can we expect the chaps in India to change from selling out as necessary. Fait a complis
  3. Thats a tricky question. Depends on how good the advertising is. I suspect you've put an ad in the local paper and had no replies- that would be standard. Get proactive - keep plugging until it pays off. Theres so many ways to advertise yourself thesedays. Also nothing wrong with contacting your local paper to do a piece on your company for free especially if you've got a USP.
  4. Fuel cards need close supervision as they are open to abuse. I'm just wondering what I am missing- trying to keep up with the latest stuff but all the time being pushed to keep a check on our prices. I get the thing with phoning round for best prices- never used to do it so much but the savings can be substantial. £10 here £20 there soon adds up. I suspect thats the key. Plus maybe not worrying unduly about costs whilst keeping your energy for getting good contracts/ keeping staff enthusiasm up/ trying to get organised better. There you go- I've answered my own post.
  5. Cheers Jonesie was a grand down last time I visited your store. Only joking- it was all nice shiney climbing kit. We use Tesco fuel cards simply for convenience though there is no saving on the price of the stuff- just saves on multiple debit card charges.
  6. Just thinking about things and wonder if there are any goodies/products that cut costs rather than increasing them. Thinking eco plugs for one increasing costs. Along with OTT training. Alkylate petrol. More H&S rules. To name but a few. So ....... have you found anything that reduces costs?
  7. If money didn't matter then who would choose to do the necessary 'crap' jobs such as drain clearing/sewer fat removal or share dealing/banking. But as advice to your own children I think it takes a lot of beating. It allows them to grow as individuals then I guess character will provide.
  8. Old thread I know Interesting points about needing PA1/6- so groundies still have to be sprayers. Cost on progreen are £70 per hundred= about £10 per 20inch stump plus time to drill plus remembering drill and batteries. Isn't it more green(no plastic)to just cut behind the cambium apply small quantity of roundup to the groove and then cap with a thin cheese and nail down. Also I think quicker. £0.50 of roundup and an extra bit of cutting. Maybe even try this with the salt that some on here swear by.
  9. I'm assuming you made the dosh by ringing and splitting yourself.
  10. Think I'll be getting a non rooted tree this year then:biggrin:
  11. I quite like the animal smell The human one though- thats a different kettle of fish
  12. I'm thinking it won't have nails in it as I usually find these in boundary trees and peoples back gardens though I see your point about transport. We will be getting it on the floor.
  13. That would be interesting. No I mean what would someone pay to collect it. Seems a shame to let it go as firewood although I have a feeling it won't fetch much more as a lump of timber. As I say normally these big trees for us are a long way from the road so getting them out is usually prohibitive but this one is right by the pavement/road and could be picked up with a Hiab.
  14. We are taking down a large beech in a couple of weeks. Fortunately for a change it is roadside which means easy access for removal in large pieces. Does anyone on here have a rough idea of it's worth. It's about 30ft straight stem and about 2ft DBH maybe 2ft 6 from memory. It's likely to have spalting as it's meripilus infected and I think this encourages the effect.
  15. Your gallery doesn't open any pictures on this computer. Is anyone else getting them.
  16. First photo is the best for me- I get the impression of xmas tree covered in snow- very nice. Retail- £19.99 each?
  17. I agree It's easy to knock and the program is about showing the viewer what goes on. At least they didn't flinch at showing a squirrel being killed. The money side of it is obviously laughable but thats not the point. He is learning. I watched most of them and really enjoyed the show.
  18. This is the issue with small machines. They are hard work. Mostly people take the stump a few inches below ground so the hazard is removed. Thats not the same as going right through the root plate which is what usually the customers really want
  19. To be honest- the OAP discount makes you look like a small business and this will detract from getting the big contracts. Just my initial thought. Otherwise I like the unclutteredness (if thats a word) of the site
  20. Same here- no tangles and they don't escape the drum
  21. Epidemiological evidence suggested glyphosate exposure increased the risk of developing non Hodgkinsons Lymphoma. Gulp! That's me. Got to digest this more.
