  1. Brilliant week. So much work being accepted and for us at this time of the year it's exactly what we need. Hope it continues.
  2. I would once have said health and safety took too much brainpower but its basically a question of getting your head round it and it all eventually slots into place. I spend about 100 to 200 miles a day driving. The bigger you spread your net the harder it is to keep in touch with all areas. It pays but I would like to cut down the time spent on the road. But we are a customer focused firm and try whenever possible to meet up with the customer at their convenience not ours. But yes, getting around quicker would be good. I would also like a switch in my brain that allowed me to enjoy doing paperwork and not just spend time here on Arbtalk avoiding it.
  3. Thats what I'm thinking as I'm dealing with city and guilds staff on this. Got your message thanks. What are your logos- I'm looking to use a raft of logos to help fill up empty space and promote our qualifications etc.
  4. Yes they are saying to not use it as they are looking to protect the brand. I agree with you- I have paid quite a lot over the years. I guess that allows me to say we are qualified but doesn't give me the right to use their logo. Maybe its a bit like saying you use Stihl equipment (which you have paid for) and use their logo on your vans to promote yourself. I'm considering just doing it but would like it to be all above board.
  5. I dread to think whether we would be covered in the event of a claim. I would have to get a claim expert in to do the phone conversation. And do a written risk assessment before I allowed him to phone.
  6. Hi Paul

Not too sure how to respond to your post. I'm looking to use NPTC logo but would really like to use it ' legally' if possible. By legally I mean we have passed numerous courses but they don't want us to use the logo until they sort out brand protection. Is there a way forward

  7. I've tried to do it by the book as it were. E mailed my training provider for NPTC logo. They said they'd get back to me. When they did they directed me to a city and guilds bod who when I contacted her said I couldn't use it as they were working with NPTC to come up with a way of protecting the brand so all and sundry don't use it. So for now they say I have to wait. Seems a bit unfair as we have quite a few NPTC courses passed between us. I think they want level 3 before you can use and say pesticide is level 2. Chainsaw is not a legal requirement only an industry standard. Across the board there are all trades involved. I would like to see customers asking for ticket numbers so they could check by accessing NPTC website. That won't happen. Never been asked for insurance details from private customers. But I still like the look of the logo on our headed notepaper so would like to use it. Should I just do it and to hell with the consequences- What could they do?
  8. It seems our theory is that they play up if not stored upright on the trucks. Never had this problem with the old ones and still don't. Seems your theory would fit our issues.
  9. It's not going to be a nice job using a pole pruner that long. Also for the record the only time we had issues with one of our telescopics was after we used a hedge cutter attachment on it. The stihl one just doesn't like it other than for trimming soft stuff.
  10. Just been talking with the office and they now say you can't use the logo as they are working out the way forward as they want to protect their brand and the value of the qualification so no more allowing for the present. Typical.
  11. Sorry to hear that Chris. It's sickening. Hope you got it sorted without too much pain.
  12. Good to hear Stihl are looking into it. My experiences with stihl recently not been great. Hate the 4 mix hedge cutter engines= too noisy. Needle bearings on the 261 went after a couple of weeks. But on the plus side. 660 great. 400T wizza great. Big strimmer great. Blowers are fine and powerful. Telescopic brilliant. Hedge cutter heads and chainsaw head work well.Splitting maul is good. Moisture meter is good. C/s trousers OK. MS200 fantastic. Viking brand lawnmowers are good. I didn't realise how much Stihl stuff we had until this.
  13. Ty- France getting some stick over here for 75% tax on rich. How's that affecting you:001_smile: London is now the worlds 4th largest french city with them all moving over here.
  14. Usual double standards in UK The law says no. Your risk assessment therefore has to say no. Someone gets injured has to say and have a small other saw to cover their backs which they then have to remember to drip blood on. Personally I find using a topper on the ground leaves me with an aching wrist as I'm always tempted to use it one handed to save stretching. But they're fuelled up and available so it's lazy. It's also a pricey saw to wear out doing what could be done with cheaper gear.
  15. Thats a great idea plus you can have a pint on the taxman as it's in the advertising budget.
  16. We got carbon which started off comfortable but quickly became less so. Don't know whether ali would be better though. Your local bosses sound like they need spurs...... of the John Wayne variety. You are so right to kick them into touch. Jokers.
  17. wheres the muesli with fresh fruit fromage frais and honey?
  18. Cheers Thats good advice. I feel maybe I'm trying to get him to run before he can walk:001_smile: We've got all that stuff but I keep reading about these new techniques and wondered whether there was a shortcut. No, it's me. I'm too ambitious for him. Excited too as I know he's going to love climbing.
  19. I have a young lad who is keen to get climbing. I'm starting him off aerial rescue next month. What would be the best rope/climbing aid combo to set him up with considering all the new techniques around. Not just for rescue but to take forward to climbing full time. Just a shopping list of must haves would be good. Then additional wish/ dream list for. I've got most basic stuff but not sure on rope make/diameter to go with climbing aids and which would be the best aid/technique for him to get into. He's being taught by an old boy who may not use best/ newest ideas.
  20. This idea is brilliant- chopped up sticks. The only downside is that a fire filled with these would burn fierce and fast and I guess would need constant minding.
  21. How big is your lawn Is it domestic or agricultural/paddock If it's small and you live up north- garden centre in the spring for feed and weed If down south- selective verdone or if you are pro sprayer then consult pro green for your individual requirements. If a paddock- Grazon - only to actively growing sward. Be quick to buy as Nov deadline. If just docks then what about spot treat with roundup or cut lower and more regular- they don't manifest in regular cut grass. Anything else just ask.
  22. Tony- this is a good subject for hortics to understand as they generally ignore trees when spraying. All lawn weedkillers are systemmic so they should not affect the roots of trees. Unless the roots are surface or very close to surface. Is there any evidence that systemmic weedkiller affects tree roots. If so I would like to see it.
