  1. Pilot hole with a pinch bar then drive the posts in. You can get more force with a mell (big hammer) than a 2 handed post knocker but on 8ft posts you would need to be on quite a high step to reach. (feet about 2/3ft off the ground) If you've not used a mell before, you really need to practice first to not make a pigs ear of the top of the post Using the 2 handed post knocker above shoulder height I would recommend wearing a hard hat. I had one come off the top of an 8ft post once and hit me on the head, that was a really bad day
  2. Plastic trailer tool box? ie Daken Plastic Toolboxes Archives - Thompsons E Parts WWW.THOMPSONSEPARTS.CO.UK Thompsons eParts stocks a wide range of Daken toolboxes, Daken is a world leader in production and distribution of plastic accessories for commercial vehicles. The excellent quality of...
  3. Scrapyards are probably full of tipper hydraulic motors on rotten bodies. I gave away a full kit of ram hoses pump etc, it was working fine
  4. 2nd hand lighting tower, this one apparently 10kva, 240v, kubota engine, plenty on ebay for a similar price? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/256681307921
  5. Currently road tax (Vehicle Excise Duty) is based vaguely on emissions, but it has quirks where the same vehicle registered in different years have different rates. What about if it was based on gross vehicle weight, say £100/tonne? Then you could collect some tax from electric vehicles, but a big tesla is going to cost more than a citreon ami
  6. I don't do a vast amount of hedge cutting, but there's a number of hedges I cut only once a year with the top of the range husqvarna battery machines. The 70cm handheld, and the telescopic long reach. Poor old petrol trimmers sit in the shed gathering dust, no use for them now.
  7. Cheap prefab insulated shed, and they're being sold by a forum sponsor!! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/196351883287
  8. The wires go between the street lights, here's a link to where the machine was Google Maps WWW.GOOGLE.CO.UK Find local businesses, view maps and get driving directions in Google Maps. Glasgow has funny street lights, I think it goes back to when they had the trolleybuses?
  9. The only still image (presumably from a passing car beforehand) was released by the procurator fiscal. If they've got any videos they must be hanging on to it for their private collection.
  10. Company fined after cherry picker fall in Glasgow | COPFS WWW.COPFS.GOV.UK A construction company has been fined £215,000 after a worker was seriously injured when a cherry picker was struck by a bus in Castlemilk.
  11. Was it the Bilke?
  12. I would say £1 a mile for local The problem might be trying to get this money out of them if they're used to getting it for free
  13. I would say muck truck is more useful than track barrow (I have both), you can turn on grass without ripping it up or putting boards down. Tends to be faster too. Tracks are more useful when the ground is already chruned up, or in a woodland. When I bought the muck truck max they were only 1600+vat new - they'll be more now, but ask round a couple of dealers. The amount of stuff that muck truck has shifted is unreal, and it's still good as new
  14. I've always had Transits and the death of them for me has always been the rust. They seem to be the worst van/truck for rust. Had an old Renault Master for a while, that was better Just bought a mk1 vw crafter (same as a sprinter but vw engine) so will see how that fairs, it was 580 mile drive home with it! My mechanic and his dad both have crafters. Builder guy I've done work for has a crafter tipper, he loves it There's also the MAN tge which is simillar (same?) as the crafter, and is available in twin wheel I think
  15. Do you or your mother in law burn firewood? You probably have enough woodland for one house to be self sufficient in firewood. So if you need firewood, you could potter away at that, the odd day here and there, family can help too hopefully?
  16. I found the grinder slow/fiddly to set up and use, I got one years ago but not used it in a long time. It doesn't do the depth gauges, so you will still have to do them manually. Got a pferd (stihl) 2in1 file this year, so far I think that is the best (easiest/fastest) way of sharpening chains.
  17. Is it not a Honda gx35 copy?
  18. I'm normally wrong on estimating too! Your eyes play tricks on you. It was 2 days total, what slows it down is dead elm is pretty tough and stringy, and quite a bit of the logs had been cut too long to fit in the splitter so you had to try and get them end on, which is slow and fiddly.
  19. Big pile of oak and elm, around 400-500mm long (for a boiler). They'd been through the pile beforehand with a cone splitter on an excavator to knock it into more manageable lumps, it had clearly been a couple of big trees
  20. Not seen it in real life but always liked the idea with this one, a slow ram and a fast ram, and a log lift Hydraulic Tractor Mounted Log Splitter - Made in the UK - Harbrook HARBROOKENGINEERING.CO.UK Heavy Duty Hydraulic Log Splitter made in the UK. 10 & 20 ton twin ram design gives you the best of both worlds - speed & power.
  21. Failing that, what part of the oxdale is it you think needs improving, and could you modify to improve it? Bigger table? Log lift? Different shape of wedge? Bigger pto hydraulic pump? Different valve? Add a conveyor?
