  1. How precious are you about the 2 rows of garages? You could try posting the job on checkatade/mybuilder etc.
  2. I feel sorry for the hire machines. The average weekend warrior thinks wood chipper / green waste shredder / concrete crusher are 3 interchangeable words
  3. Unless the line has been moved since streetview, it seems to go right over the driveway. Obviously hard to judge distances etc. Powerlines and timber lorries are never a great combination Inquiry opens into Skye haulier John MacKinnon's death WWW.BBC.CO.UK A Skye haulier was electrocuted escaping from his burning lorry, a fatal accident inquiry in Inverness is told. "Power had to be switched off for a short time to allow rescue workers to access the scene, cutting the electricity supply to every property in the Western Isles and Skye. The inquiry heard that firefighters found Mr MacKinnon's body about 10m (33ft) from his vehicle. The only clue then that he had been electrocuted was a hole in his boot. A post mortem later revealed that an enormous power surge had killed him." Apparently the first calls for help was from someone many miles away who could see a plume of black smoke coming from the hill so called the fire brigade
  4. And in the green house I made these planters to try this year, strawberries in the bottom, various cherry tomatoes higher up. The planting holes are made by cutting a slot, heating it up till it's soft, ram a glass bottle in then let it cool. Give it more of a pocket shape than a drilled hole. There's a water device in the form of two 10" terracotta pots stuck together, with the bottom hole plugged. Fill it from the top and the water soaks out over a couple of days. The tomatoes are from seed, varieties this year are moneymaker, gardener's delight, cherry falls, latah, maskotka. Strawberries are an unnamed variety from b&m bargains.
  5. A few more fruit trees planted this winter, this apple Katy has blossom on it
  6. Rhubarb doing well here as per usual!
  7. The gateway may be 17ft wide but if it's coming off a single track road at 90deg it's gonna be tight for an artic/wagon and drag? Also powerline above so even if he did get in, how's he going to unload?
  8. Talk to a local training provider/college (or more than one) Tell them about your woodland, and ask if there was any way of doing a deal where they use your woodland for a few sessions and you/your partner tag along and get chainsaw training for cheap/free. When I was in my early 20's I did a job for a motorcycle instructor and payment was me getting a bike licence, I only had to pay the test fee.
  9. It's fairly common in the Highlands for people to buy an artic load of softwood for domestic use (24-27t or whatever). Sometimes for 1 house or sometimes it's neighbours/close family chip in together. If you can, it's worth thinking of a system to cut down on handling as much as possible. So vented bags or cages and forks to move them, or a tipper, or the conveyor straight into the shed
  10. Just wondering, is the wood for your own use, or to sell? If it's for your own use, is the plan with the barrow bags to wheel them direct into where the stove/boiler is? Are you filling them loose with a conveyor or hand stacked, what length are the logs cut to?

    WOW

If it's anything like my house, they probably got a woman to check for sawdust in the washing machine
  12. You could go back and finish the job and he still might not pay you. I know people will say you can take him to small claims court. Either way it's all hassle
  13. Douglas fir is good firewood

    Like buses

It's a trap. They'll let you get all lathered up and then the swat team will burst through the shower curtain.
  15. That looks good fun! If I bought that I wouldn't paint it, it looks the part as it is.
  16. Article from 2 years ago: Lost Forest: why is BrewDog’s green scheme causing controversy? | Trees and forests | The Guardian WWW.THEGUARDIAN.COM Firm has pledged to plant huge forest in Scotland, but some of its environmental claims have raised eyebrows
  17. The 2 guys started out making beer to be anti corporate/anti establishment, but they have now become a global corporate giant themselves. The beers of theirs I have tried, I've not been a fan of, but I know they have a huge fanbase. Years ago there was a mega offer on the "lost lager", they were giving it away, and for every pack they would apparently plant a tree. So one of those dead trees is mine! Didn't like the lager, but hey it was 'free'
  18. If you have then tractor, then yeh get a hydraulic splitter. Look up ktm machinery, they used to be really cheap, not so much now. Never used one but don't like the look of the blade on the oxdale
  19. No O licence needed, no driving licence needed, they'll be self driving.
  20. Ideal tipper conversion 1 company owner Needs a new windscreen and headlight to pass MOT. (easy fix, don't have the time to do this myself) Buyer must collect from Wester Ross https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cjje0l85p3no

  21. Yep, it's a nightmare to fill in all the paperwork when you're trolleyed. Best to just torch the vehicle and buy another scrapper in the morning.
  22. You say you want to get 10 years out of it? There will be some people on here doing a couple of thousand miles a year, and others doing 30/40/50k miles a year
  23. Just electrify the river, that'll sort them out
  24. Van insurance renewal was £372 (up from £252 previous year) Went through topcashback compare, price was £268, and £38 cashback, so £230 in total. Bit of faff, but it's one way to spend your evening.
