  1. There used to be a showroom display area of turned products in Millers Dale near Tideswell in Derbyshire I think owned by Crafts Supplies. Well worth a visit.
  2. Seen a brand new one being used. VERY SLOW. Ram does not allow full splitting unless wood cut into exact sizes. Would be more suitable/cost effective to use a large sledge and twisted Husqvarna wedges.
  3. Sorry to state this but there are a lot of con people around from Africa and based in London. (We had difficult experiences with several in the last 12 months which were reported to the police and auto trader fraud office but none were able to obtain monies or equipment from us) Who on earth would purchase an expensive item like a woodchipper without viewing at all? The additional concern is using a so called shipping agent. Most people would tow away with their own vehicle and pay in hard earned cash/bankers cheque. Have you spoken to him on the phone? I agree with some of the above comments regarding safe viewing of the item and where!!!! (Make sure you know who is arriving before and where they live and have a decent lock on the wheel/hitch).
  4. Looking out the office window at the rain (Monday's office time) I wanted to know if anyone had used a mobile welfare unit and how it compared with a standard large cross frame tool box for secure storage/drying work clothes. We are often miles away with little decent shelter at lunchtimes/mending tools and canvas tarps not always suitable even with a wood stove.
  5. Install a stove thermo on the front above the doors if concerned about correct operation. The fumes given off are dangerous as posted elsewhere so loads of fresh air inside the house during the first couple of burns. Paint will not cure/harden unless at least 600C on Clearviews. Make sure both levers pulled out until going well then left lever full in and run on the right one. Hope that helps.
  6. Worked in Norwegian mountains at -30C with no issues when using good fuel and chain oil. (Heated handles a must)
  7. The weather often seems to be rain and wind before a full moon then cold with snow during a full moon in wintertime. Forecast I heard said could be 6" of fresh snow in some areas on Wednesday/Thursday and Sunday.
  8. I would use warning signs even on a straight section of road. (Bright orange clothing seems to work better than normal "Yellow" at slowing the public approaching)
  9. The same reason I would not disclose Bank Details/Vehicle Registrations/Chainsaw-Tool Information/Detailed Location/Photographs as I assume most people viewing this forum are decent folks but do not want the small risk of having all the business items removed. (Sensible Crime Prevention Rules)
  10. Do you mean well used main roads? In rural areas we do as the local council do and use SLOW warning signs well before and manual STOP/GO boards.
  11. If you have space then a simple pole barn with slatted wood sides (like Yorkshire boarding) is ideal. Problem with 20' ISO's is cost of a decent one and the running of it compared to natural wind and sunshine. I encourage people to purchase fresh wood and season themselves for a discount. Think the US is somewhere that wood is often kiln dried.
  12. You could always look at Withams/Jacksons. There are additional 4x4/6x6/8x8 trucks available.
  13. A new series called Making Scotlands Landscapes (Starts this evening)
  14. Makes nice wine Blackthorn!
  15. We should also spare a thought for all the civilians that have died in conflicts. (Religion/Political views aside).
  16. Crane choice will depend on the sizes of wood you need to move and payload of the vehicle. Mowi make a fine crane or an old type Atlas for large lumps.
  17. Should have mentioned the tree dropped branches onto the road often and the main stem moved in storms. More like luck it was still standing. We are often asked about tickets/insurance/risk checking/method statement but so many local councils in this area take a laid back no prevention action which could leave them open to claims. Will be hell on the roads this season if as much snow as last time comes down. I might post some photographs.
  18. I had a Nokia 6250 that lasted years including sitting in pockets with sawdust and rain. I think still available as new/old stock in Singapore. Considering the Sonim XP3 now.
  19. I would keep to singles unless working on soft ground often. have a look at Alliance, Agricultural, Car and Truck Tyres from Kirkby Tyres Trade wholesale and good range!
  20. Often trees alongside public highways are in a dangerous old condition (fine in a wood where no one goes) but the local councils people seem to drive along with a blindfold on. (I and several local tree surgeons reported a large dead tree in a tourist area and were told to stop telling them how to do the work). It took them a month to decide on removal.
  21. Interesting forum post this one. The main problems in the UK are as follows:- 1. Hundreds of under maintained woodlands. 2. The people that own/run the woods do NOT do the commercial work in them. 3. There has been a huge press surge on green issues so the public has installed stoves but no idea where to source and how to store firewood. 4. People often assume costs less from abroad.
  22. HMRC said red diesel not for use in Unimogs when working on "private" gardens sites. OK for use on public roadside trees and hedges. (Agricultural/Forestry/Horticultural no problems) Some fuel firms are now using around 8% EU grade Bio Diesel in white/red.
  23. Never use tyres from the normal 20MPH Agricultural/Forestry vehicles on Unimogs/Fastrac type vehicles as it is dangerous and unsafe on public roads. (Insurance will be invalid) Alliance, Agricultural, Car and Truck Tyres from Kirkby Tyres
  24. ....when you see the moon appearing through the woodland.
  25. Well having seen the damage that Squirrels and Rats do to the land/trees/buildings I would be happy if they were all removed from the UK. The law classed them as PESTS.
