  1. The head of the local planning office told people interested in purchase of a site we own (in a verbal and written form) that the full legal planning permission we had lapsed as he mislaid some paperwork. B******S with narrow minds that like to make life difficult for small business.
  2. Trade prices please?
  3. I use this helpful website for weather which covers the world. http://www.yr.no Type in the place name in the search box and then click. Google can translate the more tech sections if needed.
  4. Yes on BBC East Midlands.
  5. Well the local council woman "Pest Office" here said drowing is the method which is the kindest compared to being blasted with a pellet airgun and the slow death from poison. I have seen various methods of control over time and tend to agree.
  6. The "as new/single trip" 10'-20' ISO is a worthwhile investment as it will last for years. Contact Container Hire, Steel Containers, Steel Container Hire, Container Sales & Used Containers in the UK The modern ones have large steel pins behind the hinges inside and do install an Abus container lockbox to enable insurance.
  7. A horse is not a horse unless it weighs at least a ton. (Clydesdales)
  8. Flexothane is lightweight will go over chainsaw clothing and available with a zip in warm section. (Can be washed in a bucket and dried overnight) Wax canvas waistcoat without sleeves is fine for normal logging but hard to find these times.
  9. Seem like some of the Police/Vosa/EA have a different personal view depending on where the vehicle is based in the UK. In this area "Woodchips" from Tree Surgery is often classed as waste however from woodlands is classed as a product. Logs are also the same unless purchased direct from a woodland site. I always ask when stopped if there is a current book the person can provide me to make sure we keep within the law which throws them. Agricultural/Forestry vehicle tread depth is a difficult one for them as well. Stopping the woodchips blowing off the back is very important as is a log net.
  10. Do we have the trade bulk prices now? Would be interested to see them and the sea port you would use. I assume the wood is seasoned?
  11. Noticed there is a large amount of chipping waste going onto and behind the cabin where the exhaust and air intake is. The U600/421 I had tried to fire itself due to this and the air unit needed more maintenance than usual.
  12. The reason that working tax credits were introduced was to help people in certain areas to make the step from being unemployed into work for firms who could not afford to pay a decent wage. I would be more concerned about the rotten scum who cost us around £38,000 each to be in prison with free food/electric/bed/tv/gym/drugs. These prison people should be made to pay the total costs and work outside picking rubbish/mending footpaths for 23hrs each day!
  13. 1% do 90% of the crime. These people wait until you have an insurance claim done and then come back. Hide in the bushes with a crossbow and night sights!!
  14. The person driving that vehicle would not be able to claim as he ignored the signs. Drunken man? Regarding signs and people walking the hounds we do not use hazard tape but strong orange rope which is tight and between waist and shoulder heights. It works well with mountain cyclists that think hazard tape is a race finish tape. We also have large signs that state:- STOP. DANGER TREE WORK. YOU COULD BE KILLED IF GOING PAST THIS NOTICE. The worst scare I had was cutting a large stem on the ground with a 20" chain and as I was leaning forward watching the tip to avoid going into the ground a Collie appeared from nowhere within inches of the turning chain. I stopped and had a word with the foolish dog owners. Children should be taught about rural life in school to make sensible adults.
  15. Rain Snow Ice Wind Hail and more of the same. Be nice to have some decent snow again with the sunshine afterwards.
  16. I am starting a campaign to reduce the "Fuel Tax" on "Green" fuels used in chainsaws to that of Agricultural "Red" diesel. I have spoken in depth to the HMRC/APF/FCA/AA and found a reasonable interest. Current tax is around 10P a litre on red diesel and 56P a litre on unleaded petrol. This is considered illegal tax when the fuel is not being used in road going vehicles. There are three producers of green chainsaw fuels now including Aspen (which we had used for over 10 years) but the direct trade prices are still too expensive to those of us who use large amounts each work time. When working in Norway I found that the fuel is tax free due to the health concerns of professional chainsaw workers and the forests we work in. Some help and ideas on this please!!
  17. Yes works well like that and enough room for a kettle on one side and a pan of stew. Good for wintertime powercuts. Remember when doing the initial fire to open the windows of the room and leave the house as fumes are dangerous!! (See instructions) Paint will be damp and will mark on the burn.
  18. Simple:- So when the vehicle is backed at an angle one can turn the woodchipper funnel from each side into the back of the vehicle. (Normal travel position is facing backwards to avoid catching branches on tracks)
  19. I had a good laugh with this one!! Would think it was made on a friday afternoon. This reminds me of the lad that came to work for us from the local collage with all his new tickets. I asked him to install a brand new sproket nose bar and chain on a H 242XPG CAT and start with the work. Whilst checking to make sure he was ok found loads of effort and no action. (He had installed the chain on backwards and did not understand the problem) Since turned out to be a reliable skilled woodcutter.
  20. The FC used to be a well run organisation but has been going downhill a long time although some decent folks still working hard there. Small woods have often been sold off to local landowners when considered unworkable with huge machines. There should be a viable and sustainable system of planting/thinning allowed to continue and not selling off the woods to folks like the Woodland/National Trust that seem to rely on carbon trading and large grants before doing work. (Large overheads even as Charities) Perhaps all the people on the forum should look at a mass purchase. In Norway/Sweden/Finland the people that own the woods also do the work.
  21. Nice idea but what is wrong with some more active maintenance of the woodlands in the UK? Regarding prices I assume one would be selling seasoned wood and not by the ton!!
  22. Current law is bunded tanks for all business use and leisure use over 1000LTRS. It is worth keeping an eye on the water content in tanks as this can cause the problem you had. I use "FuelProof" and find then fine.
  23. Can someone please confirm the current legal pruning measurements from the "A/B" road surfaces? Height from ground and back from the curb edge. I heard it was 6M High and 1M to each side. Derbyshire is shocking in a lack of sign clearance/verge maintenance. If we have as much snow as last wintertime the roads will be blocked.
  24. Well rules are made but it still does not stop some breaking them. (Speeding/Overloading are to name a few) I take pride in having a clean licence but think that GB is drowning in excessive regulations instead of common sense. Slightly off topic but I have noticed how many folks use chainsaws without decent approved gloves but consider themselves professionals. (even in the trade magazines and adverts)
  25. If you use a vehicle registered as an "Agricultural" machine then it has to be used for Agriculture/Forestry/Horticultural purposes which can include roadside trees and hedges and for clearance of snow/gritting. It cannot according to the NFU and HMRC be used for private tree surgery work in gardens. No MOT needed but vehicle should be as good as if going for one. (Lights/Brakes/Tyres/Mirrors/Seat lapbelt) No Road Tax needed but you still have to place one from the DVLA in the front window. Insurance is needed is going on a public highway for more than 1 mile and crossing. Can have a number plate at each side instead of at the front/back. (Due to linkage equipment) Legally can use red diesel on the road between work sites. (There is some discussion at present on distance allowed but I have in writing that provided you have work/materials on each site then this is allowed) Service and maintenance is important to keep safe and earning without breakdowns. Land Rovers used to be able to be registered as this class when the back PTO and Linkage was available from them. If you use the machine for different purposes then expect it to be seized if stopped.
