  1. Ah...The Greater Good.
  2. Just looked at a job and during our chat the guy asked "what causes the tree to died?" For example, why would a Birch die of old age at 80 but an Oak live on for 900 years? I didn't have an answer. Can anyone enlighten me?
  3. Yes! BRING BACK THE WOLF!! They wouldn't eat the scots, they're too high in cholesterol.
  4. No. I found them to be a pita and ended up taking the red spacers out as the muffs keep popping off your ears. Can't say i noticed any difference anyway.
  5. Yup, reverse thread. Go hard!
  6. Handy info, thanks. Few years back I got openreach to drop a line. I'm sure that cost over £200 for 10 minutes work and an hours break in between. Shortly after that i did a tree for an ex BT engineer. Since then I have NOT dropped several lines myself that were in the way. I have NOT fixed a cut wire that was unnoticeable within Wisteria and that was NOT with connectors and wall boxes that the guy DID NOT give to me.
  7. The way that the article is written does suggest that it's trash but it is true that HMRC does have hit lists. Back when I was an accountant and the anti laundering legislations had newly came out we were told by our CPD training provider that the "tax man" had convicted a solicitor for money laundering and next in there sights was an accountant for high publicity to show they meant business.
  8. Beat me to it Gary.
  9. Stops any spark from the exhaust causing forest fires in countries where they are prone to happen, thus we don't really need them in the UK.
  10. See quite a few episodes and i don't think that i've see one where profits made would cover Ed's labour costs. Great seeing the restoration though. Ed knows his stuff.
  11. At least you had some decent wood to work with. This was my mangy Ash job today.
  12. can't do that. If i cut my hair short enough to get rid of the gray i'd look like the Hood (Thunderbirds).
  13. What shall i donate this year? I'm all out of Shades of Gray.
  14. I'm currently paying £24-£25k to both my climbers but they want a pay rise
  15. Just seen on a big Holm Oak. Too high to get a good look but i'm guessing Applanatum.
  16. Sorry to hear that you had to play football.

Yeah, i did realise about the outer tube needing a notch cut out when I was initially switching it over. Its seems to have rounded it off right through to the drum bolt. I've just taken the clutch drum back to the supplier and he's ordering me a new one. Will just have to go easier on the new one - no gnawing at bits slightly too big.

Hi Doobin, I was using my FS70 conversion yesterday when the cutters lost all power. I've stripped it down and it looks like the square spline holder that is part of the clutch drum has rounded off. This is after less than 6 months use. Have you every come across this? Cheers, Ed
  19. In recent months a client and myself had an honest mistake working on a group TPO of trees. Since then and because of the recent case, which is still open, i refused to remove a regular customers Pine tree as i wasn't 100% certain that it was ok. Because the tree is close to the house and causing very large lumps in his drive, the client had applied for removal of the tree (conservation area) on two occasions over the last few years. Both times the council tried to put a TPO on the tree. Don't know what happened after the first attempt but was shown the letter after the second attempt which stated something along the lines of "due to a split decision by the planning committee it will not be progressing with the TPO". My thinking is that no TPO but still covered but still covered by CA. I'm unsure so client will be getting someone else to do it. The TO's won't take direct calls or emails, the council call centre couldn't clarify and said use public access website - also useless. What are you suppose to do??

  21. I pay £0.80+ when i take me 9 jerry cans over and collect from my supplier. Asked the yardman what it would cost if i got a tank and had it delivered - £0.60+. Minimum sale of 500L though. Difference in price is due to the cost of running a yard. Need to find myself a tank.
  22. I've worked for loads of queens.
  23. Just heard of two other opportune thefts from work sites in Cambridge this last week. They may be following firms to work sites and waiting for a chance. Will be warning my guys to be extra cautious.
  24. Looks more like Lawson cypress to me.
  25. I'm more than willing to buy new saws when needed but my climbers prefer the 200's over the newer toppers so two saws go out with the team each day and i rotate them with the spare saws when they do start playing up. Generally they just need a good clean out and reset the carbs.
