  1. Hi Keptenjim, If you've not got a lot of experience felling be very careful. Take your time to make sure you get the direction cut and felling cut right and before you even start that, have a good look at any lean of the tree, how the tree is weighted (quite often Leylandii's have more brush on one side), and the wind direction - even a light wind will have an effect on the big sail of a Leylandii. 3. I think that you are spot on. I think that Stihl are throwing a lot of lemons out for us guinea pigs to test for them and then finding the cheapest solutions to problems rather than making a solid machine from the start like the good old Stihl company use to do. Sent from my iPad using Arbtalk
  4. Thank you for banging on about it. I took your advice a few months back and bought the FS70 - It worked a treat! The only thing that I would say about the conversion is that it's not a trimmer that you can use hours on end as the vibrations seem a lot worse than a KM unit. Sent from my iPad using Arbtalk
  5. I'm sure that these machines aren't a problem to someone with your knowledge of engines but for us without, we just want something that will be reliable for years straight out of the box and without the need for dealer servicing. I was lucky if i got 2 years use out of the each of the two that I had (but that was when I was still using red oil). During their working time they weren't problem free. You often had no chance of restarting them after stopping them for a few minutes, not until they had cooled right down. They often came within a whisker of been launched down the garden. Another lemon that Stihl wont admit to. They should of made it perfectly clear to dealers and end users that only higher quality oil should be used but i don't think that they knew that when they first brought them out! 6. Haha, he must have been properly gurning at the time. Sent from my iPad using Arbtalk
  7. I only hit 40 next March but as I have already had cataract surgery and will be having a new hip within the next 12 months can i be an honorary member as i obviously have the body of a 70 year old. Sent from my iPad using Arbtalk
  8. Invest in a nice red Mitsubishi - i have one for sale, only a small-ish oil leak. Sent from my iPad using Arbtalk
  9. Yes, can happen very suddenly. I've replaced/fixed carbs on all of the 200T's i've owned. From new you used to get just over one years daily use before they started playing up. I think that Stihl did eventually sort the problem just before discontinuing the saw. If you decide to buy a new carb make sure that you get one for the older 020T model. 10. I don't think the problem is from using it hard on a hot day. The smoking may just mean it needs a clean down/blow out of the accumulated crud from barrel fins, etc. The running problems sounds like the normal carb fault. Easy fix by someone that knows about the accelerator pump problem. Don't suppose you have another working 200T that you can switch carbs with to be sure it's that. Sent from my iPad using Arbtalk
  11. Probably confusing it with the chain break / hand guard Sent from my iPad using Arbtalk

The saws trashed. I'll buy it off you for spares, £50. Worth a try. Sent from my iPad using Arbtalk
  13. Found this on a plane last week. Looks similar to the deposits from Beech bark insects - but on a Plane??? Also on the same tree - leaf miners? Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  14. Looks like the harbour near Porcini's restaurant, which i can recommend if you want posh nosh. Sent from my iPad using Arbtalk
  15. Hi Macpherson, I've now got a knackered 4mix (km100 minus the shaft). If you want to pay the postage or arrange pickup, it's yours. Ed Sent from my iPad using Arbtalk
  16. Oh yes, he was out night and day. One job was trying to clear Tennis court road. Nowhere to stack so trying to throw branches back over Downing's high wall. My first teacher, Peter Large, was telling us of his experience. He was out day and night for two/three nights solid. Finally got home, sat on door step to take boots off and woke up the next day on the door step. Sent from my iPad using Arbtalk
  17. Like that. Very natural looking cuts. I always struggle getting that much tear down effect but i've always been working from a rope and harness with a top handle - would be much easier from a mewp. Sent from my iPad using Arbtalk

    Stihl 4mix

For the price of the HL95 you could easily get the Echo multitool complete with trimmer attachment and then have the option of other attachments. Sent from my iPad using Arbtalk

    Stihl 4mix

For a multi-tool system i'm now using the Echo and i'm very happy with it. I will hopefully be salvaging my Stihl kombi-system accessories by switching the power unit to a FS70 as advised on Arbtalk recently. But in general if I'm looking for new machines Stihl are no longer my first (or second) choice of brand. Sent from my iPad using Arbtalk
  20. Interesting proposal Paul. I do want to be AAAC one day and have recently moved in the right direction by getting some help in the office to try an organise my admin chaos. If i already had all the above up to scratch i'd probably already be thinking of going for the assessment. Sent from my iPad using Arbtalk
  21. Don't remember a lot about the storm, only that our garden wall blew over. It was rebuilt and lasted two years until the 89 storm! Sent from my iPad using Arbtalk

    Stihl 4mix

Apparently if you only use the stihl super oil and have it's serviced regularly it's fine. I'm still not touching them again after 2 km100's lasting barely lasting two years a piece. Sent from my iPad using Arbtalk
  23. 20L jerry cans from pump and 450ml of oil via measuring jug. Sent from my iPad using Arbtalk
  24. Very nice! I remember passing that casino - i should have stopped. I've had a couple of trips to Prairie Creek in the last few days. Avenue of Giants tomorrow. I've been told that Founders Grove is a must. Sent from my iPad using Arbtalk
  25. Good call on Stout grove, it's also a beautiful drive to it on Howland Hill Rd. Found this on our very first stop opposite the entrance to the Boy Scout Trail. Sorry about the picture quality, had to take a few with the ipad so that i could post on here. Also didn't have any beautiful women with me to pose next to the tree - just an old arb.
