  1. Who's your boss then? By 'one of the companies you work for', do you mean 'one of the companies I do spammy marketing for'? @benedmonds- how did this job go in the end?
  2. The problem with above 26hp is that you are then into DPF, which seems to give problems on all new machines! Big cost jump too- something like 5k extra just for the engine. Load of shit. Rather than having a 35hp engine running for ten minutes, let’s have a 26hp engine running for twenty! Cos it’s greener 🙄
  3. I’d just fit the one without the bubble. Plenty of 181s are sold without.
  4. That’s interesting. My Multione has that engine, and it’s underpowered on heavy work or hills. Dows anyone know if turning up the pump revs is all I’d need to do, or would the piston hydraulic pump need adjustment too?

Because when grease warms it liquefies and the oily component leaks put out leaving the flour as the emulsified paste you find in the corners of the covers of hedge cutter gearboxes that haven’t been regularly greased. Filling with grease cannot leak up the driveshaft, the bevel gears are in the way. Possibly on the other grease point, but as Spud has alluded to, most people miss this one anyway. I never said you had to fill it- just grease it regularly. I don’t believe any harm can come from totally filling it as excess grease/pressure will just escape out the blade slot. Who are the ‘we’ doing this testing and how did you measure ‘increased loading’?
  10. The gearbox wants to be full. How long do you think your gearbox on your car would last without oil? Or do you run it dry to ‘avoid extra loading’? The only reason car gearboxes use oil and hedge cutter boxes use grease is that you can’t fit a rotary seal around rectangular profile reciprocating blades.

  12. I did it a few years back. Got egg on my face when I did it to non long reach cutters though- they sit on the floor where the plug is! 🤦‍♂️

  14. You guys are greasing your hedge cutter heads, aren’t you? Just checking…. Power doesn’t make bearings destroy themselves- they don’t turn any faster. But lack of grease does. I’ve only trashed one hedge cutter head- and then I fitted grease nipples! Im always surprised how many pumps of grease they will take, even after only a little use. Keep the grease fresh- all the trashed heads I’ve fixed for other people have a bit of grease emulsified in the corners, and none on the workings. You can’t overpump them, it’ll just ooze out of the blades.

  16. Just bear in mind that ash dieback is a bit of a ‘flash in the pan’, and it won’t be long before you don’t want to go near any of it without a grapple saw either.
  17. Thanks. The guard on the Oregon is a continuous shroud, and the motor bolts to it. It’s simply not possible to mod it. could you post a link to the Chinese one? Or where to buy the ‘Italian’ one in the uk?
  18. I have way better things to do than file a chain, although I can hand file with the best of them. A file is only any good when it is fresh, and they really aren’t that cheap these days. Grinder and CBN cost was maybe £500, it’ll last years. £500 is small beers these days in Arb anyhow.
