Dear All, A colleague in their final year of their undergraduate degree studying Rural Land Management as a mature student, and completing a research dissertation on whether natural burial could assist in the management and creation of woodlands has asked me to circulate this survey. This is both from the perspective of assisting the funding of new woodlands and also burials in existing woodlands for example during beating up operations or to fund ash dieback work. Have been asked to calculate trees needed for a restocking and the FC have stipulated "not less than 5 to 1 stems per hectare". Am I correct in saying that this means 5 new trees for every one felled? Thanks in advance for clarifying this for me.

I'm interested to know what success/uptake there is with selling standing timber among woodland owners/managers, especially in Oxfordshire/Gloucestershire? Are there firms that will pay competitively for hardwood polestage (12-20" dbh) thinning, and how are people accessing these markets? Thanks

Ive been pondering a solution to a short wheel based 4x4 for use in forestry. The old 90 defenders were good off road, albeit lacking in refinement, and the Jimneys are great off road, but very small for load carrying of tools. So it got me thinking that a 4x4 pickup (2 door) could have it's chassis shortened with the rear tub removed, and either a tray back or workshop body installed? Has anyone done such a project? I'd be keen to hear any snags or problems encountered.
