  1. On interesting explorers, my Grandmother (who spends lots of time looking at family trees) has found a pretty solid link to David Thompson, the geographer. His brother married someone who gave birth to my great great someone or other... I think it's rather cool that my ancestor mapped most of Canada!
  2. And saved you skirt wearers a heap of pastings :001_tt2:
  3. 3 feed bags a day in the Rayburn (on all day) and probably a bag a night when the woodburner is on, which isn't always. House is always warm and pretty big.
  4. I drove a mates the other day (all day, 300 and some miles) a 110 double cab with the 2.2. It was limited at 83-85, felt like it was just ticking over, if you took the limiter it would do a ton no worries, even on the BFG MTs! I think I averaged about 36 per gallon too, which is good. The nicest Landrover I have ever been in without doubt, it copes with the rough too - hes a keeper on a grouse moor and would have sold it if it didnt manage off tarmac, he reckons it tows 4t no problems. Smart in Keswick Green and all... If I had the cash I'd buy one tomorrow.
  5. The "die hard defenderites" arn't who you market a new car at. How many of you lot above have brought a brand new landy in the past two years? They don't, landyites, they buy secondhand stuff and then trick it up/cut bits off/weld bits on. Hell, even if they do buy new they keep it for 10000 years. If LR have any sense they will market it for the school run, the dog walkers and the city boys, they spend the money, not us lot!
  6. Just add I would like to drive to Mongolia at some point in a Landy or on a bike/quad. DrewB, if you wanna talk about this we can do a thread in the lounge?
  7. Things needs killing for management, tourist hunting injects money directly into the areas where it is most needed on top of this. I'm not a trophy hunter, tusk/horn length/span is of no interest me. The above the animals are what I see as the most dangerous hunting situations, the most challenging to me as a hunter (not a killer, nothing canned for me thank you). As I said, the three situations above stack the odds in the favour of the animal in all cases. "What man is a man who does not test himself?" ~ Saladin. Just on another note, why are large animals different than small animals?
  8. Sounds odd, but kill three things. A charging elephant at less than 30m, with a English double rifle. A cape buffalo in the thickest cover I can find. A grizzly bear with a spear, as done by Davey Hughes.
  9. Looking into moving 2000+ ton of softwood out of a site on 6 wheelers. The road is in very poor condition at the moment (Road generally less than 4m wide according to the OS) and apparently is due to be resurfaced some point soon. However I am worried that the Highways Agency might turn round and bill us for damage causes to the roads by the haulagem, I know this has happened in other cases. Does anyone know what law this comes under? What is the best route of action? Tell them and hope, or keep it quite and hope they don't get wind of it Cheers, Sam
  10. I was in Tescos earlier with the missus when suddenly she said, "Do you know what? Your a right lazy twonk!" Well, I thought I`m not having this, So I got out of the trolley and walked off
  11. I live accross the A66 from Whinfell (Lakes) and there is virtually no traffic from there at the moment, Christmas was hectic as hell though!
  12. All I will say on this is that a well maintained LR will out perform, hold it's value better and last a lot longer than ANYTHING on the market. The only thing that comes close is the older Toyotas.
  13. Your not allowed to use the right words on here for this situation. Best I can do is I'll keep my ears back for the saw and let my old man's lads (joiner, plumber, electrician etc) know about the drills.
  14. Of the Jap stuff I think Izuzu or Hilux is the best. Nothing touches the British Box though...
  15. Based on the Kuksa used my the Scandiwegians I believe. Interesting bunch of people the Voyageurs, but they probably killed the great lakes wilderness more than anyone else.
  16. Has anyone fitted the above into their Defender? Apparently it will increase the gearing ratio = better fuel economy. Anyone done it? Any thoughts? cheers, Sam
  17. A friend of mine was saying there's been a two car accident on the 590 too. Its shocking up here (Penrith area) it's about 4 miles of lanes that don't get gritted before I'm on a B road, so there is no chance I'm doing it today.
  18. What a barsteward. No work for me today, watched two people spin out and another one crash on the way in and decided it wasn't worth it. Landy back on the drive and me drinking tea. I reckon it could make it, it's other people I don't trust!
  19. Take 600 quids worth of his stuff and go home. Is this relevant to UK law? A "change work order" is not something I have heard of.
  20. Price at a breakers is shot at the moment... I looked at it for the van I had but they were going to give me £250, 2002 Peugeot Partner that was.
