  1. I cannot believe some of the doom and gloom some people are posting. It's as though they really want this country to fail. Cannot get my head around this.
  2. How does this compare to the 455 rancher, and what's your thoughts on the rancher for occasional work ?
  3. Sorry but I have to disagree. I honestly think if we all pull together, we can make this country great again and reclaim our identity. From, manufacturing to construction to everything else, instead of people saying no we can't do it, to saying yes we can do it, then sooner the better.
  4. My first attempt at making a wooden toy car, all turned on lathe. Made in last 6 months. Love wooden toys, hoping to make more of them. H.
  5. I've got a cheap aldi one which I had given. I find it big and bulky though. I'm thinking of investing in a McCulloch electric saw, about £110.
  6. Hi mark Have a look at Triton, not used one personally but I've been hearing good stuff about them.
  7. I'm hoping that its gives this country a big kick up the backside ( in a good way ). I want to see this country and its people rise up and put 2 fingers up to the doom mongers. This country used to be a world leader in industry, and I cant see any reason why we can't again. Wether its large scale or small is unimportant, it's the fact that instead of moaning about things, shut up and get on with it. Take a part for a machine for example, if it is to come from Italy (for example) and it's going to take 2 weeks. I'll guarantee the will be a small engineering company that can make the same piece, or repair it, a lot bloody quicker and better. That way its win win. You get your machine running quicker and thus earning money quicker, and you have just helped another small business grow. I see it in a positive way. H.
  8. Hi mark Welcome to the weird and wonderful of woodturning. As for as I can work out ( from another forum ) Clarke lathes are slightly more difficult to get parts for than more commonly known makes. I do know that Clarke lathes are also sold under various other names, so for me the best bet would be to ring someone like axminster up and actually talk to them and then they would be able to advise you. Sorry for not being more helpful.
  9. Awww bless him. How can people be so cruel. Good on you for showing him things can be different and not all people are the same.
  10. For my mothers lawn I still use an old flymo blow and vac [emoji23][emoji23] I have heard the stiga stuff is quite good. I personally have a soft spot for McCulloch gear.
  11. I'd love to find an old McCulloch in the 50 - 60 cc range to use as a firewood saw.
  12. I know everyone has their favourites, and I would highly recommend metabo gear. Ok they haven't got the range of gear like makita do and they don't feel as nice in the hand, but, they are powerful, built to last, don't mind getting covered in dirt and just really good gear. I also use milwaukee and makita gear in various ways.
  13. Hi mark, please post some pictures up, your products sound brilliant.
  14. Would love to have a log cabin as a retirement home, but in Scotland.
  15. I normally do beach chopping boards. After trying different oils I now tend to stick to chestnut food safe worktop oil. Goes on easily and comes up well.
  16. I've found this on many different belts, I just recon most of the belts must be generic and they're using a different glue, and or cheaper materials.
  17. Hi all Which user friendly photo / video editing software is everyone using. I'm a complete novice at editing, so wanting something simple that I can use with my camera and action camera, for both photos and videos. Thanks for any advice Cheers Harvey.
  18. I've got a metabo surface planer thicknesser mark, wouldn't be without it. Doesn't get used much, but only because we have got a bigger one that I use at work.
  19. I use saws mainly for firewood and carving, my go to saw for the last few years for firewood has been a modern day McCulloch cs410 elite, which has been absolutely faultless, yes it's a bit slow and underpowered, but used within its capabilities and it's a brilliant little saw. However, I have got a makita dcs9010, which I bought to do some milling, which although it doesn't get much use I would fully recommend over a cheap Chinese saw, mainly due to how cheap the makita can be bought for compared to to stihl.
  20. We are thinking of taking one over, not starting from scratch. One of the attractions for us is that we will be buying a house, some land and an income all in one go. We are also thinking along the lines of small holdings etc.
  21. Thankyou for all the replys. Its certainly given us food for thought. Basically my wife and I are both fed up with our jobs, we want to relocate and work together. We both love animals and don't go abroad, so we are looking at ways we can achieve this. Kennels is the idea we keep coming back to.
  22. Hi, sorry if this is in the wrong section. Does anyone have any knowledge of running a cattery and kennels business. My wife and I are seriously considering moving into this type of business, but have no experience, so any information or advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers H.
