  1. totally agree, that is another part of my 'argument'.
  2. can i just add a bit of a twist (although it derails a bit ). I am only a 'home' user, i wear full ppe at all times and have been using saws for over 25 years, ( not boasting just stating a fact ) and realise that they are dangerous, however i am a chippie by trade and use such tools as circular saws, nail guns, bench saws etc and all without any proper certified training course training ( there arnt any) How many of you saying in effect anyone without tickets should not be allowed to buy chainsaws, but yet use other types of machinary (large or small) without any proper training ? are we all certified in welding, tractor driving, grinding etc etc ? i understand where you are coming from, but you cannot stop people buying what they want.
  3. Love the valiant, bet you can have great fun with that, as well as earn a few bob or two.
  4. if its occassional use or not going to get too much hammer, then why not have a look at the makita range, decent saws but a different colour.
  5. Think about it, one arm is still workable, that means you can get away with paying half wages doesnt it !!!!
  6. Isnt the 500 renowned for having bad engines, i think i have read it on here somewhere about them. How long have you had it / how you find it ?
  7. Oh, and try and get an oiless one, saves you remembering to top the oil up.
  8. what about machine mart or screwfix, you can get one for about £150.
  9. Played mens hockey early on alongside teaching wado ryu, but completely messed my body up with injuries. Now just lift weights and run / cycle to keep fit. My passion for me is my allottment, just wish i had more time to spend there, trying to sort my work / home balance out. oh and collecting books.
  10. Dont know how to do pictures, but for me its Lisa Kelly from Ice Road Truckers.
  11. As johnnyboy says, get yourself a backup. I work primarily as a chippy on buildings now, but i am so gratefull i took my hgv 2 years ago. Saved my neck more than once in current climate.
  12. Hi, if this is in the wrong section, sorry. I am hopefully getting round to fitting a new kitchen later in the year. I am wondering if anyone has milled / made their own worktops and what was used, how were they finished etc, and if poss pictures please, oh, and costs involved. Thanks.
  13. My my my, I've got an headache just reading these threads, and im a management cpc holder with a lot of experience in transport. The rules and regs differ all the time and even the people at vosa interprit them differently. On a different note, i have recently read that you may need a cpc / o licence / class 2 lgv to drive a telehandler on the road. There is something kicking off about it in scotland at the moment.
  14. i do a bit but only domestic. Would love a tractor and post knocker. (we can all dream )
  15. how long did it take to do, it looks bloody brilliant.
  16. i clean and check saw whenever chain needs a sharpen. But then i only use it for my own firewood.
  17. get new web site and business venture up and running, more holidays/weekends away.
  18. Just thought, if your in the market for something newish (08 onwards) have a look at the citreon bipper. Its same size roughly, got a 1.3 d engine, but its only £35 a year road tax. well worth a look at.
  19. If possible i would go for the astravan 1.7 cdti engine. Smooth as hell, plenty of power, decent road tax, car like comfort, better than the combo imo.
  20. If you have done that using only basic equipment, then i'd say bloody well done , thats a great peice of work. Simple but good.
