  1. Eddie, they are well brilliant, much better than the trussed roofs i normally end up fitting. Where abouts in the country do you you work.
  2. hoping to get a tiny joinery machine shop going in my garage this year producing gates, log stores, animal housing etc, just to see where it takes me, if i can get it to full time and earn decent money, then that will do for me. Being able to work from home, and spend more time with family is time well spent me thinks.
  3. Nice, i'm still dreaming about a grey fergy or something.
  4. Rich, have you thought about something like hgv driving. Always work about. I'm a chippy myself working the sites, sick to back teeth of it but semi decent money. But when there is no work i go agency driving, saved my neck plenty of times. I will always work with timber in some capacity but its always handy to have a fall back trade. Good advice from stevie blair tho about lawn and hedge cutting to start out. I did that to get my foot in the door with nursing homes i used to manage.
  5. dont know the warrington area, but any major tool hire shop will stock them. They will be either dewalt or makita. Both perfectly good machines.
  6. those of you who run 1st fix air nailers, what psi do you run them at, i'm thinking of getting one to run alongside my paslode, but i need to get the full set up. what compressors do you recomend. Also is it posible to run a compressor from a generator. i know you can get small petrol compressors but are they any good ? thanks.
  7. I watched the first program, but not bothered since. Couldnt take to it really, may watch them doing the logging runs but thats it. Bring back IRT, thats what i say.
  8. bloody brilliant !, keep the pics coming, i'm a chippy by trade but can only dream on working on projects like that. i really do need to get into milling !!!!
  9. wahay, join the c15 club. as stated, totally bomb proof, cheap parts, ground clearance etc, i've just dinted my door on my on a tree stump that suddenly appeared, just adds to character. Get one you wont be disappointed.
  10. which grinder have you bought, i keep thinking about trying the clarke one from machine mart.
  11. police !, i have 2 young daughters 7/9, i'm dreading them getting to be teenagers, because of this type of thing. for me, booze - cigs - alcohol - computers, is a pretty bad mix, go to police, you may be saving a young girl from making a big mistake. sorry for getting too deep, but i hate this type of thing.
  12. totally agree, that is another part of my 'argument'.
  13. can i just add a bit of a twist (although it derails a bit ). I am only a 'home' user, i wear full ppe at all times and have been using saws for over 25 years, ( not boasting just stating a fact ) and realise that they are dangerous, however i am a chippie by trade and use such tools as circular saws, nail guns, bench saws etc and all without any proper certified training course training ( there arnt any) How many of you saying in effect anyone without tickets should not be allowed to buy chainsaws, but yet use other types of machinary (large or small) without any proper training ? are we all certified in welding, tractor driving, grinding etc etc ? i understand where you are coming from, but you cannot stop people buying what they want.
  14. Love the valiant, bet you can have great fun with that, as well as earn a few bob or two.
  15. if its occassional use or not going to get too much hammer, then why not have a look at the makita range, decent saws but a different colour.
  16. Isnt the 500 renowned for having bad engines, i think i have read it on here somewhere about them. How long have you had it / how you find it ?
  17. Yes i'm in love, especially the red dress one
  18. Oh, and try and get an oiless one, saves you remembering to top the oil up.
  19. what about machine mart or screwfix, you can get one for about £150.
  20. Played mens hockey early on alongside teaching wado ryu, but completely messed my body up with injuries. Now just lift weights and run / cycle to keep fit. My passion for me is my allottment, just wish i had more time to spend there, trying to sort my work / home balance out. oh and collecting books.
  21. Dont know how to do pictures, but for me its Lisa Kelly from Ice Road Truckers.
  22. As johnnyboy says, get yourself a backup. I work primarily as a chippy on buildings now, but i am so gratefull i took my hgv 2 years ago. Saved my neck more than once in current climate.
  23. Hi, if this is in the wrong section, sorry. I am hopefully getting round to fitting a new kitchen later in the year. I am wondering if anyone has milled / made their own worktops and what was used, how were they finished etc, and if poss pictures please, oh, and costs involved. Thanks.
  24. My my my, I've got an headache just reading these threads, and im a management cpc holder with a lot of experience in transport. The rules and regs differ all the time and even the people at vosa interprit them differently. On a different note, i have recently read that you may need a cpc / o licence / class 2 lgv to drive a telehandler on the road. There is something kicking off about it in scotland at the moment.
